  1. I just received 1/2 a dozen phone calls from people in Georgia, Florida and New York about the weather channel reporting that my county is under a mandatory evacuation. Hmmmmpfff...only it's not. There has been a voluntary evac for the last two days and they are repeatedly confirming the voluntary status via the press. Wonder how many folks around here only watching the weather channel and not local news is freaking out a little more now. Killing threads since 2004.
  2. You should be flogged!!! Any chance I can get a number? Killing threads since 2004.
  3. I've started seeing static on my TV when my is interacting with my wireless router, mainly when I click on a site that takes a while to load. I've had the same cable modem/router set up for two years, with the current macbook and TV for about a year and have never seen this before. Any suggestion what might cause this? The router sits immediately next to the TV, but has always been there, no recent moves, no new cables, etc. Killing threads since 2004.
  4. d-damn...sweeeeeeeet!!! Killing threads since 2004.
  5. Yep, our management at NASA stated today, "You can leave tomorrow but you will need to take vacation." What a krock o shit................ I've actually been very impressed with my company (The Nature Conservancy). We were told on Monday that we had an admin day off on Friday. Yesterday they added Thursday and this morning they said if necessary for prep we were on admin leave immediately and through the end of the day on Monday. Of course it's on the honor system whether you really need it and we are expected to have our shops/equipment, etc. all ready also. Spent today ferrying fire trucks 3 hours up to Austin and now it probably won't be necessary! Killing threads since 2004.
  6. 2300 Eastern update has it making a pretty big jump. Corpus, supposed to be dead center yesterday is now out of the cone. If it keeps going like this, the Florida panhandle better be watching out! Attached from www.stormpulse.com
  7. I won't ignore a mandatory evac, but short of that I typically stay, usually running a Red Cross shelter if they are opened in the area. It's quite a load off now that I live in an apartment instead of in my camper in Florida. I usually make myself available to Red Cross, but cost and potential loss are the primary reasons I prefer to stay. I don't have money to spend fuel on evac and assuming that power is lost I'd much rather be at home where I can light the smoker and start the dehydrator to preserve all the game meat in my freezer. I sure do hate seeing backstrap and tenderloin turned into jerky!!! That said, I have no kids or pets and can look at it from a totally selfish point of view. I do miss being at the beach though. I used to love watching the weather come in the day or so before a big storm. Killing threads since 2004.
  8. We've had storms skirt either side of us this summer. I kind of feel like I have a hurricane magnet in my ass. I think Ike is just waiting for me to bend over. Might sound odd, but after evacuating from the coast in Florida as many times as I did in 2004/5 I'm almost going through withdrawal with lack of activity here! Killing threads since 2004.
  9. You keep your boob pics in a powerpoint file? Killing threads since 2004.
  10. Hehe...exactly opposite of me. I have lots of interest in patient care but no interest in structural fire. I'm a wildland firefighter and look forward to adding EMS duties to my quals so I can work as a fireline medic on wildfires, but structure work just doesn't do it for me. It's not very hard to get a job on an ambulance in my area if you want to do transfer service work (moving critical patients to larger towns, etc.) but the city handles 99% of 911 calls and you have to be cross trained (and willing to work for no money) to work for them. 11. Not an all time favorite by any means, but I sure did watch it all the time, along with CHiPs, Knight Rider and of course Fall Guy (mmmm...Heather Thomas...) Killing threads since 2004.
  12. It really doesn't take much. I once had an infestation in my apartment and found it was from a tiny piece of banana that had fallen on the floor and gotten kicked under the cabinet. Took about 3 weeks to figure out where the flies were coming from. That time we got so frustrated we called an exterminator to come out and do a free look-see as a precursor to starting service with them. We just played dumb college kids and asked him if there was any way he could just spray around the kitchen as long as he was here. No charge, did the trick and we never did start service. Catch a guy in the right mood and you're in business! Killing threads since 2004.
  13. Awesome! I start my ER clinicals next week and ride-a-longs a week and a half later. I can't wait!!! I'm most excited about the rides I have scheduled with the two different life flights in the region.
  14. I'm hardly a conservative, but something I always liked about Glen Beck is that he outwardly states that he's an opinionist, not a journalist. Killing threads since 2004.
  15. For work I keep a bag packed that's good for 3 days food/water with no power or shelter in just about any weather (prepared to sleep in the cold, but would need to collect a few extra items to be in the cold day and night). As for sheltering at home, I'm good to go for about two weeks in regard to food/water/batteries, etc. I don't store fuel at home though have access to unleaded and diesel 5 miles away at work, along with a generator. I've yet to really wrap my mind around my firearms (12g, 30-06, 22LR) being used for self defense, etc. as I only started hunting (and bought my first gun) less than a year ago. I have some ammo for each but I certainly won't be the guy outfitting the neighborhood militia. From a standpoint of financial loss, etc. probably the most important thing I do is keep my chest freezer filled about 1/3 with bags of ice. That way when we lose power my freezer (that is obviously already cold) turns into a cooler and keeps all of my meat from spoiling. I keep a bunch of frozen water bottles in there too that can be pulled and thawed to get some cold water. One major thing I learned while doing hurricane relief in Mississippi and New Orleans is the importance of unplugging major appliances, etc. when the power will be off for a long time. Often as the power gets back up and running there are surges, etc. and lots of stuff gets fried. I used to have to deal with this stuff all the time living in Florida and working in a job responsible for responding to the various disasters and often see a few days here and there for work in my current job, but it's been a couple years since I had to deal with a week or more without power. Ike seems to have homed in on my butthole and is just waiting for me to bend over, so we'll see what happens this time around! Killing threads since 2004.
  16. You talking stylish and ergonomic or more old school comfy...cushiony w/ the seam on the inside that gets painful if you've got a good article? Killing threads since 2004.

  18. I was battling the flies just a couple nights ago myself. I pulled some pork out of the freezer for dinner about a week ago and in preparing it I must have dropped the freezer bag it came out of down the crack next to the fridge. A couple nights back I noticed that there were an abundance of flies in the apt. It was killing me that I couldn't figure out where the heck they were coming from. Thankfully I knocked over a glass that spilled down the same crack next to the fridge and I found the bag, with maggots crawling all over inside the bag just waiting to become more flies! That was all of 2 or 3 days to go from nothing to flies and maggots galore! I just tossed the bag in the outside trash and spent the rest of the evening with a fly swatter in hand. I guess they must have a pretty short lifespan because I know I didn't get them all but haven't seen more than one or two in the last couple days. Killing threads since 2004.
  19. I kind of hope it's fake, for the sake of those involved. Still funny! Killing threads since 2004.
  20. [announcer voice] Today our riders will be facing the brutal Ham Hock Hill Climb and finish with the sprint through Goat Gizzard Flats [/announcer voice] hehe...continued... ...and now the peleton rounds the corner where Bubba's cousin hit that stump with his Buick and just wait, my old Ford can't even make it up this next hill. We'll see how these Bi-cyclists do! Killing threads since 2004.
  21. It would be interesting too to see how he would fit into a pre-existing team vs. having a team built around him. Is someone like Contador (assuming he stayed) going to be willing to play 2nd fiddle, or better yet, is Lance ready to play domestique if it looks like he doesn't have what it will take to win and Contador does? Killing threads since 2004.
  22. I really have no interest in the Tour being turned back into a race with Lance and some other guys. I was a big fan early on and for the first several years. It got old though once he went from being just an amazing athlete to a big celebrity. That said, it was nice to see some additional cycling coverage in the US that normally might not have been televised. Killing threads since 2004.
  23. Nope, UGA is at South Carolina this coming week. After losing to Vanderbilt, South Carolina will probably be fired up. We'll see what happens. Killing threads since 2004.
