The vast majority aren't any worse than a bee sting, but I'd hate to find out the hard way that this one was part of the minority! Killing threads since 2004.

Oklahoma cops unfamiliar with the purpose of an ambulance
FlyingJ replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
We've talked a bunch about it at work (EMS agency). The paramedic was asking for it once he started acting like a dick. Both parties just doing their job. I never read whether the ambulance was running code or not. If they make the decision to run code 1 (no lights or sirens) than they are choosing a non-emergency transport and follow all traffic rules, which to me includes giving right away to a different vehicle running code 3. The driver stated that he didn't see/hear it until the last minute, which I have no trouble believing. His partner just overacted, which then caused the cop to get pissed, which caused the medic to get more pissed, etc. Cops/EMS/Fire rely far too heavily on each other to let bullshit like this get in the way of the respect that is typically found between the agencies. That said, in the area I work I've seen the cops go through dispatch to ask the status of an ambulance before pulling it over for doing something questionable. With a patient on board they've just passed a message on via dispatch. I'm sure EMS gets a bit of a brake (especially with local PD/SO, not so much with state patrol), but folks have gotten tickets, and people have certainly gotten their asses chewed by EMS supervisors who hear the back and forth on the radio. Well if thats there way to stop theft more power to them. For the people who think this is bad, you should go check out B&H photo in NYC and see how they do it and get with me. They make you check all bags, correct? Used to go there all the time, been about 6 years now though. Killing threads since 2004.

We might have to adopt these two. Could be used to described about 70% of our EMS patients. Killing threads since 2004.

Not so much mooching as just waiting for someone to do something stupid (or less often get legitimately hurt or sick) and call 911. Still on the clock, but after 5pm the time is ours to use as we wish. Killing threads since 2004.

The downtown boathouse is EXCELLENT! I used to volunteer and lead trips there and it's where I got my start kayaking. An awesome experience seeing the city from the water. I highly suggest it for anyone up that way (especially for those of you that live there and still have no concept of the fact that you live on an island!). They have several locations now. When I lived there it was just on Pier 26 in Tribeca and every weekend they offered public paddling trips either up river to the Intrepid or out into the harbor to the Statue of Liberty. edit: PS...it really is totally free (though they do accept donations if you are so willing). The staff are all volunteers, so don't fuss at them when there is a long line! Killing threads since 2004.

Hey man... You can see fireworks in just about any direction, but make sure to head over to the East River, not the Hudson. The East River is where the Macy's display takes place, with 4 or 5 barges launching from the river. As for shows...if you are staying over Sunday night, check out Upright Citizen's Brigade Asscat 3000. It's an improv comedy show. Can't say for sure they'll have it over the holiday weekend, but worth it if possible. Killing threads since 2004.

Fit Fit Fit. If it doesn't fit you won't wear it and will have wasted your money anyway. I have a HUGE and oddly shaped head and literally tried on every XL helmet for sale two counties in every direction. Finally went with an Arai. It cost me an arm and a leg, but I knew that I just wouldn't wear it if it didn't fit. Killing threads since 2004.

before you take the National Registry exam, invest in the book "Success for the EMT", has a 95% success rate for helping people pass the National Exam. http://www.amazon.com/SUCCESS-EMT-Basic-Success-Across-Boards/dp/0132253968 Agreed. You suggested it to me some time ago and I felt it helped in preparing. I've been teaching ARC as a volunteer for about 10 years. Just gearing up to teach AHA now that I'm working for an EMS agency that provides AHA classes to the public. Killing threads since 2004.

Regardless of how you feel about the outcome, the game itself was a hell of an improvement over the last two years! Killing threads since 2004.

We couldn't be more in sync with that. That's been one of the toughest things about living in Texas for me. Killing threads since 2004.

So, whadda'ya think? I know I sound like a broken record, but I'm just hoping for a good competitive game. The blow-outs of the last two years have been a drag even though the right teams won both times. At least it's not Ohio State this time! Killing threads since 2004.

Absolutely. Saturday morning I fly to Florida to spend 7 days at a training for work. Will get to see a number of folks from around the country I haven't seen for a while, and mainly, I get to set fire to some freakin' trees! I'm going through withdrawal doing mainly prairie work in Texas. Killing threads since 2004.

My brother recently spent about 5 months down there. Started in Peru, went through Ecuador, Peru, Columbia and on up through South America eventually ending up in Alaska in time for his next seasonal job up there. I was crazy jealous of that trip! NZ/Australia has been first on my list for a long time. Costa Rica is high on my list too. I get a decent amount of vacation, but I went so long seeing my family very infrequently that now I tend to use most of my vacation time to visit them in Georgia, usually over Christmas and 4th of July. Benefits, dammit! I two years worth of seasonal work/travel all set when I left Florida and then they went and offered me a full time job and benefits! Killing threads since 2004.

And that one's been scheduled since last year at this time... I would really like to get to Austrailia/NZ. Have started planning that and had it fall through a couple times now. I'd love to tool around Central/South America too. Killing threads since 2004.
