Such as home-style cures for ailments over someone that went to med school and studied to become a doctor? -
College education...worth the effort/expense?
FreeflyChile replied to livendive's topic in The Bonfire
Sweeeeeeeeeettt... Can I get that up front? -
Seriously, why ISN'T there a tunnel in the Chicago area????? I've heard rumors for years that different people want to try to bring one, but it never happens....you'd think with the number of people nearby (both skydiver and non-skydiver), that thing would have enough business to sustain itself...

Do REAL MEN use girly IM abbrevs. like "OMG?"
FreeflyChile replied to RastaRicanAir's topic in The Bonfire
this is not directly related to your question, but what is now going on that i HATE is people actually saying these things... like speaking "lol" "OMG" and stuff like that, or if you're playing a game online some little brat saying you got "pnwed"..... -
what are you talking about....he was absolutely riveting as the air traffic controller in Die Hard 2!!

Choose a side (motorist suing dead cyclist's family)
FreeflyChile replied to waltappel's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm kind of in the middle on this one. Assuming that there are rules requiring a helmet, reflectors, etc. then the cyclist is partly at fault. That the cyclist died has nothing to do with the damage to the Audi. If the cyclist had lived, the Audi would be just as wrecked. My thing is, I don't think the driver should win because the insurance company should have included this bit in what they were settling with the family. -
I got a 30 gig zune shortly after christmas and I love it. The only thing I don't like is that i wish i could import my music folders in the way i have them organized on my computer....that and playing video on it kills the battery life like nothing else. Other than that, i love it.

Anyone else here happy that the Cowboys are finished? :-)
FreeflyChile replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't care about the Cowboys, and I hate the Packers (as a Bears fan), but after GB won i wanted to see the Giants win because I loved watching the snowy conditions on saturday...if i dont care about the outcome of the game, i love watching it in a lot of snow, rain, etc... now as far as the pats go, i want them to lose...but at least there's some consolation in knowing that no matter what, even if they go 19-0, pats fans can never brag about that without the whole cheating thing coming up - it's the new Bonds home run number! -
Wasn't there a very similar case last year where a church in Indiana wanted to show the Super Bowl and the NFL sought an injunction to prevent it from happening...and were successful?

"Improving America’s Standing In the World"
FreeflyChile replied to nerdgirl's topic in Speakers Corner
Marg, excellent topic. I agree with Gingrich (who i don't like too much) on this...I think that taking time to listen is key. My opinion on the way the foreign world looks at us is that we are currently throwing our weight around without any sort of thought as to the consequence of our actions. While I think that after 9/11, there was a sort of leeway/sympathy towards the US, where there was understanding behind actions this country would take...I think that international good will and well-wishes have been squandered by the Iraq situation. Now, my world view is limited mostly to south america, as someone born in Chile, I know what people I know in Chile think. Also, I just spent a week in Brazil (very nice and warm, by the way), and given all I have experienced in my travels, I don't think the world hates us - as in, they don't hate the people living in the US - they disagree with what the leaders of this country have done. Over the course of my travels, I get the best reaction when I say I am an American (I am a citizen)...people really do like this place and what it represents, and it is really interesting...there's something about this place that still seems to inspire hope and the people I talk to seem to always have an admiration and almost envy of the situation we have here. Nothing malicious, mind you, just a desire to have their country be what our country is. This is just my opinion, but I think that the willingness to listen, to really take into account what the world community thinks of us and expects of us (not necessarily adopting any or all of it - as Gingrich said) would go a long way to fixing the foreign PR problems this nation has right now in a very quick manner. -
This thread is no place for a "Hot Shots" reference.

Shoot, by this logic someone better go tell the US Government that all their nuclear weapons are broken!

If i remember right, it has something to do with MS not releasing the code or proper instructions to 3rd parties so that they can develop wireless controllers for the 360. i think only ms can make wireless 360 controllers for the moment, tho i could be mistaken

this is like the jesus figurines that conan obrien made fun of a few years ago...there was a religious company that had figurines of jesus doing things like "jesus and soccer" "jesus and tae kwan do" and then conan ran with it and had things like "jesus and blackjack" and other really funny ones.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I have an old creative labs mp3 player from like 5 years ago that still works, and i loved how simple it was to use. i need a new one because i want video (to transfer dvds i own) and because the old mp3 player is only 256mb, which is not very much for anything over 4 hrs of music. i don't want an ipod because 1) i know several people who have had those things fail on them and 2) i don't find the way they work intuitive and easy to use. plus, and maybe this is a misconception of mine, i don't like how apple does things with DRM, it makes it restrictive and i don't want to buy something and learn that later it doesn't work with music and movies that i already have (and acquired legally). given the positive feedback i'll probably go with the zune. i would get a creative labs one but i pretty much have to go to best buy since the money i'll be using to buy it is in the form of a bb gift card.
