Ah speakers corner, the perfect place for assholes (such as myself) to expell gas. James

Finalyl passed level 5 after 4 months!
chutem replied to Mike111's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Way to go!!!!!!!!!!! James -
I've been haveing alot of fun with the stryker also. It's fast, aerobatic, and very sturdy. When you do break it just spray both sides of the break with 3M 77 adhesive give it 5 minutes to tack up and stick it back together. Also flies pretty good in the wind.

In the good old days standard policy was to hang horse thieves. I'm not so sure that policy shouldn't be used for car thieves today. Ad me to the list of people watching for your gear. Good Luck, James

Cool stuff, I had the same kind of experience. Remember there will be a day when you can do the same for others. Kids in the tunnel are awsome, wish I could have done that. James

I don't know you or any of the other posters in this thread. When this thread started I thought people where being needlessly harsh with you. Then I read the thread about the poster who lost a 17yr family pet and now I understand. One thing you may not understand is that the skydiving comunity is close knit and careing for each other. If you plan on continueing skydiving a change of attitude is in order. How many other forums do you post on where the people you are so uncareing to may be resposible for your life someday? I know it all may be a joke to you but we take eachothers pain seriously. I hope someone can get through to you. James

Plenty of deaf skydivers, I'm sure they'll post when they see this. James
-
Not a very popular point of view evidently, but I think I'm with you on this one John. At least the poster is actually going to do what they proposed, not just spend the cash on jump tickets and write some BS about what they did. James

This has pay per view written all over it. James

I'll be there.

By open and close I ment the wire that gets the positive power applied to open or close the sunroof not open or closed circuits James
-
How many wires from the motor? What color are they? If there is 3 it is probably one ground one open and one close. If 2 it might be case ground with one open and one close or it might use one as pos. and one as ground to open and reversed to close. A wireing diagram would be nice since you don't want to damage a poss. good motor by jumping it incorectly. James
-
You might have someone wiggle the sunroof side to side/up and down while trying to turn the cogged thingy. I'm not at all familiar with this system, but it might have a bad bushing/bearing/roller allowing it to Jam. Jumping power to the motor also sounds good. If the motor is not case grounded (has a ground wire) you might try hitting the switch without it hooked up to the cogged thingy. Good luck, James

Intentional Cutaway Desired - Raven Micro 150 Concerns
chutem replied to mdrejhon's topic in Safety and Training
I was just replying to the title of the thread and your mention of the intentional cutaway in the first post. In this situation I agree with Wendy that you should buy one that you will be comfortable with. Last thing I would want is "gear fear" when landing a reserve in a stressfull situation. My next reserve will most likely be a PD. That is if I can ever afford ($$$) to downsize. James -
Intentional Cutaway Desired - Raven Micro 150 Concerns

How about jumping the reserve as a main with another container when the re-pack is do. Probably easier to "set up" this jump than an intentional cutaway. James -
If I rent you a boat that has an engine fire I would not even consider trying to charge you for it. If you bring back one of my boats with a damaged prop you will pay out of the deposit. I would like to think if you rent gear and have a reserve mal that the DZ would not charge for it. James

You have a good point here. After computer resets you may have to drive 10 miles or so for computer to "re-aquaint" itself with the various sensor readings. James

Checking the pressure was def. mentioned by me earlier. The old ear check is just another way know that something may be "amiss" back there. It's also good general knowledge for people. If your fuel pump (electric in the tank) starts makeing noise and it didn't used to, it's probably on it's way out. Most multi port injection and some throttle body injection systems have a port that looks like a tire valve (schrader valve) on the fuel rail or in that area. Some throttle body units have to have the fuel line disconected and an adaptor put in. It is usually an easy check if you have the tool.(approx $50 for cheap one) I can understand the reluctance to take it to a shop, it's like admitting defeat. Once you've put in as much time as he has you want to win and defeat the problem. Atleast it's like that for me. I'm not saying it's the right thing to do just that I think I understand his reluctance. Some guys trucks are like a wife or even more important, letting someone else touch her is a no no, paying someone else to touch her. James

Glad to hear it! James

Sorry if I wasn't clear, my opinion is students should not be charged, but should make a good faith effort to help in the recovery of the canopy. In no way does this mean they should attempt to follow it down just help look for it. Don't want them worrying about it costing them to chop. I was responding to the poster who said that the DZ should have insurance for the rentals. In my opinion as long as it is clearly stated in the rental agreement who is responsible then it is what it is. I am in the boat rental buis. and my contract clearly states that lost/damaged equip. will be paid for by the renter. James
-
If it's getting loud you will probably be able to hear it with the truck running, assumeing you have stock exhaust. With a new one I usually have to put my ear to the tank to hear with engine running, old bad ones from a couple feet away. James
-
In my experience they will make noise even when the vehicle is running ok, I think the bushings in the motor go bad. The more you drive below approx 1/4 tank of gas the faster the fuel pump will die. It is actually cooled by being submerged in gas. Also it may only run a couple seconds if you just turn the key on you may have to start the truck for it to keep going, not sure on fords. James

I don't think it is up to the DZ to cary insurance on rentals, it is however up to the DZ to clearly state in the rental agreement how this is handled. You then have the option to rent or not rent the gear. For students I think it should be the dropzones responsibility, although the student should do his best to find the canopy/gear. James
