  1. I don't think so.... but they have "dead sticked" a 767 to a safe landing with no engine power before.... clicky Cheers- "...Seconds later the right side engine stopped, and the 767 lost all power and went quiet, allowing the cockpit voice recorder to easily pick out "oh fuck"." I bet some other choice words were uttered in that cockpit as well. Other than poor math skills, those pilots really kicked ass on that landing!!! NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  2. I just did my pre-second H&P from a fast moving Otter at 4500 last Sat... it was not pretty... but... I did a poised exit, I rushed myself a bit and pushed off too hard from the aircraft I believe causing myself to get unstable momentarily. I was on my back for what seemed like too long but really was more like less than a second before I barrel rolled and oriented myself towards the DZ. While it seemed like the longest time I ever took to get stable, I was just passing ~3900 when I glanced momentarily at my altimeter prior to dumping. Lesson: RELAX, breathe, step off, look at aircraft, arch, etc... I know my next one will be a LOT smoother since I won't be needlessly tense. Good luck!
  3. Anyone ever bailout from a 777 before??? ...and live? NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  4. Congrats... at the rate I am going, I should have about 120 or so a year from now... hopefully I have will have my "A" by the end of next week. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  5. yeah, and I am still waiting for someone to expain the sheep fixation... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  6. lol, my "German" car's finally assembly was in the US... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

  8. Agreed, I have never met anyone that was even close to a remotely healthy weight that was on Atkins... of course, most people on Atkins don't follow it properly either. That diet, in addition to the new trend in classifying obesity as a "disease", and giving people tax-breaks for "weight loss programs" and visiting nutritionists is very disturbing. I think I am going to try and write-off my gym membership fees when I do my taxes next year... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  9. Funny this topic should come up, I just overheard a similar convesation between some jumpers at the dropzone regarding this... one of them even said he sold his SCUBA gear to buy his first rig. SCUBA diving sounds fun, however I already have several very expensive hobbies. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  10. I was 28... actually got interested in it back in '99 but never really worked up the desire to start until recently... to think all the time I wasted NOT skydiving, persuing less worthwhile hobbies. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  11. bwaaaaa ha ha ha!!! I almost spit water all over my laptop, dammit!!! NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

the movie looks very well-done indeed... when does it come out anyway? NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  13. Personally I think a pump-action shotgun would be a better choice since everyone KNOWS what they sound like when chambering a round and that will usually be deterrant enough to a would-be assailant. My choice: short barrel AR-15 with 30 round magazine. First round in the mag is tracer, I consider that their warning shot. As for why I use an AR vs. a shotgun or med-large cal pistol... familiarity with the weapon coming from many years in the Army and the fact that high-velocity .223 caliber is very effective against people and will defeat almost all body armor at close range. As an added bonus, for my neighbors, .223 dissipates most of its energy on impact with walls and will be less likely to kill someone in an adjacent room vs. a .45 auto round for example. Just my $0.02... of course I have only fired about a MILLION rounds of ammo through nearly every modern class of weapons, and some antiques too. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  14. I really don't see the big deal with a couple of stray cats around... they keep the insect and mouse population in check and they don't bark all night at nothing. If they are caterwauling and making a lot of noise, use the hose to spray 'em down... If I saw someone trying to shoot a cat with a .22 I would put a round of .223 tracer over their head and see how they liked someone taking "pot-shots" at them... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  15. congrats... level 6 was the scariest jump for me for some unknown reason... good luck on level 7, graduation!!! w00t!!! NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  16. I haven't learned to pack yet, but will have to shortly, but I can safely say that I won't do it that often after I get my license. I would rather give someone a few bucks to do it for me, they usually can use the money anyway... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  17. yes, having more money than sense is rather rampant in America... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

  20. I have to agree with you on that one... my cat has been missing for a few weeks now and I go to the shelter about every couple of days. It is amazing how many "new faces" there are that will never get a new home when I am there. I think it is time for me to adopt another kitty or two. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  21. 0:3:1 First low solo from 4500... went to a smaller Navigator main, much more fun/easier to land.
  22. Yeah, it was getting a "bit" hot out there too... it was making jumping feel like work instead of recreation. I'll be back next weekend barring any drama at work. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  23. messing with people like that is childish AND potentially dangerous... BTW, it doesn't help when you tell n00bs that there was something wrong with a strap/helmet/jumpsuit/whatever AFTER the jump... it would be nice to mention it on the climb to altitude BEFORE they exit the plane... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  24. If I had a double total mal, I would fight until the last second of my life... AND track towards the rigger's car in the parking lot... Even if you do everything right, you can still get killed on any dive, if you can't accept it, you probably shouldn't be jumping. Just my $0.02. Blue Skies!!! NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  25. ...don't pick at it. Ask me how I know... no wait, don't... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
