  1. He was a cool guy... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  2. - electronic pre-press production - photographer - soldier (PATRIOT Missile System tech) - gov't consultant - tunnel-rat (it's not a job, but it's all I do now... ) NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  3. Yeup... thanks for mentioning that. I did however find that it was easier to pull the slider down when the risers were under load than unloaded on the ground. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  4. At the risk of getting really technical, if anyone wants to test the memory thoroughly go here: http://www.memtest86.com/ and download the bootable CD image that will enable exhaustive testing of the memory modules in the computer. That will take _any_ guesswork out of the equation. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  5. no no no... something we don't know... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  6. I prefer Crichton over Brown... he's a bit more sophisticated and more technical than Brown's stuff. If you like "spy" novels and the like, Tom Clancy has better facts but isn't as fluid as Crichton (some of them at least). NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  7. Maybe I just want a new job... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  8. It's a bit of a pain, but you can get the slider down on stardard risers if you have softlinks without bumpers. It would depend on the size of the slider grommets though I guess. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  9. Cool, I haven't been out there for a while and was wondering if any progress had been made. SVH will be a lot closer than Perris when I'm visiting family out there, if they ever finish building it, lol. The IBA's website had an unrealistic completion date so I'll be looking forward to your pics. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  10. 1. Fill out your profile so people can have an idea of your weight, experience, etc... 2. Prepare to get _extremely_ conservative advice here. (But most of it is pretty good) 3. Prepare to get flamed no matter what. 4. See number 3 again. That said, downsizing and going elliptical at the same time is not recommended. Downsizing 2 sizes at once, i.e. 170 to 135, skipping 150 is also not recommended. Maybe if you provide more info people will give you a better answer. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  11. Anyone been to Universal Citywalk recently and know what kind of progress they are making on that tunnel? NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  12. Here's my setup: Rawa, Finley ringsite, Schumacher swivel-clamp... The ringsite pivots up and out of the way and can be locked in the up or down position. Ringsites are far more accurate than the old dot on the goggles trick. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  13. weaksauce... my record is 125 in a 35 (on a military reservation no less...) and 175 in a 65 both on a modded Ninja ZX-7 Here's a shot from my BMW, that I recently sold, at an undisclosed location: NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  14. I have heard a few dealer and rigger complaints about Wings also. I lean towards the Talon FS or Mirages personally since their harnesses were the most comfortable (to me). Javs/Odys are good rigs too, but they take way too long to deliver IMHO. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  15. Altimeters and alti-watches are fine in carry-ons. Just give time for extra scrutiny. I have literally criss-crossed the country many many times with my rig as a carry-on over the last couple years with little or no problems. Just be friendly, bring copies of documents mentioned (incl USPA card), and give yourself extra time. Protec will be fine in checked bags. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  16. Relative Workshop I think... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  17. Rich Urban Bikers NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  18. My experience so far is that you can fly with anyone that demonstrates stability, heading, and fall-rate control. If they can't maintain a level or a heading then they aren't ready to fly with anyone yet. Safety is a big issue in the tunnel and even experienced skydivers occasionally pancake each other and end up in a pile in the corner. That said, most whuffos will be really stiff and chip around a lot for their first couple sessions and will require a lot of attention from the instructor/spotter. They are best left to enjoy the experience on their own until they get comfortable and controlled. Just my $0.02 from a fledgling tunnel-rat. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  19. I buy from Adorama or B&H most of the time... I've never had any issues whatsoever. But then again, I don't talk to "sales" people, I just order online and the stuff always shows up on time. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  20. classifieds... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  21. If you have forward speed then you have plenty of flare power... use it. I have met more than a couple people that think PLFing is acceptable on every landing. They have all been injured when they failed to pull it off properly. Fly your canopy all the way to the ground... you won't need to PLF except on _very_ rare occasions. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  22. Quite a few people wear jeans, BDUs, or motocross pants over their legstraps during swoop comps to protect them from abrasion damage. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  23. http://www.bladerunning.com/trainingcenter.htm NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  24. My PC1000 has defocused like maybe once or twice on opening due to a firm opening. Ways to prevent this: jump a canopy that opens softly, slow your fall-rate before deploying, don't pull in a track (duh), etc, etc... If you want to see a video shot enirely with a PC1000 go here: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=guestpass&id=uf5ju I have never experienced "flutter" at all.
