So you quoted me... and...? You failed to address any of the points that I made. You sound like some spam internet advert with that "biggest and fastest" comment dude. There's more to having a great tunnel than "big and fast". Maybe when you get more experience, you'll figure that out someday. Until then, ignorance is bliss I guess. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Wrong again, I said there was _potential_ for greater injury. Just because, in the _very short_ time you have been open, you haven't seen it happen yet, doesn't mean it won't. Please review Newton's second law of motion if you don't think carrying more speed into an impact won't impart more force to your body. BTW, colors aren't subjective, they can be measured with precision. Pros and cons of particular tunnels are subjective on the other hand making that a piss-poor analogy. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Wow, you guys really need to work on your reading comprehension skills... at no point was I "angry" about anything here. I have nothing vested in this discussion, I don't work for _any_ tunnel (unlike another person in this thread) and was offering _my_ experiences with tunnels having flown in several of them over the last couple years accumulating more than a couple minutes of flight time. You haven't spent much time in or at tunnels if you think newbies can't get away from their instructors and crater. It happens, plain and simple. Also, at no point did I offer any opinions about Bedford, I could really care less about it considering it's thousands of miles away and over-priced based on current exchange rates. Once again, for the cheap seats... The Skyventure recirc tunnels are excellent and any skydiver hoping to hone their skills in it will come away satisfied. If you think you _need_ 16ft to solo belly-fly in, maybe you should work on fine-tuning your skills a bit. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

I never said "smaller is better"... please pay attention to what I actually wrote before commenting on it. I said small tunnels have certain advantages, and by the same token, big tunnels have certain advantages. I have yet to find the "perfect" tunnel. I personally could care less what tunnel people fly in since everyone will find different aspects of them appealing such as location, design, cost, instructors and staff, etc... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

um dude, you can't correct "opinions" so get over yourself... I've _seen_ it happen in Eloy's ~14ft tunnel, hell I've even got video of it. If someone new suddenly punches out into a track, or kicks off a wall really hard they are going to beat the spotter to the other side, usually with ugly results. If you are out of control, it doesn't matter how much space you have to stop since you are _out of control_. The point I was making is that the Airkix tunnel design is excellent and anyone would be happy with that one. A newbie working on basic belly skills doesn't need 16ft of tunnel and using the "bigger is better" philosophy in choosing a tunnel to fly in is lame because it simply isn't true. Maybe if you were doing 4-way but when working on stability drills, freeflying, transitions, etc that extra space is meaningless until you start adding more people. I've flown in several tunnels and never felt constrained in the smaller ones. In fact, as long as it's tall I'm happy. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

How much slack between the connector links and the last stow do you normally leave? edit: nevermind... I see you said it above... I'm not sure what else to try. At least you know it's not "body position". NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Well I haven't flown in either of them but after spending tons of time in SVCO, the sister tunnel of Airkix, I have to say that the new recirc Skyventure tunnels rock! They are smooth, powerful and comfortable. Sometimes a bigger tunnel just means you are going to build up more speed before you auger into a wall or it'll take that much longer for your spotter to get to you when you are about try some impromptu headdown into the grate. Realistically, you aren't going to be able to hear the audible alarm on your wrist anyway, so I don't get what people are complaining about here... Grab your favorite dytter and press the speaker to the back of your hand and set off the warning alarms... they are very muffled. Now imagine wind noise then add a helmet and some ringing in your ears from the loud-ass Skyvan you just rode to altitude in... and that tone will be really easy to miss. Stick an Optima in your helmet if you want swoop beeps. They work really well... Personally I am really looking forward to the Viso, esp if I can get a wrist mount for it. I hate hand mounts. Would you pay to watch a Swoop Competition?
mattjw916 replied to dsbbreck's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'd pay... Pros are pros for a reason and it's no different than any other sport. Entrance fees that feed into the winner's purse will in turn help fuel competitor interest and that sounds good to me. Skydiving should take some lessons learned about promotion in other sports and quit acting so self-righteous. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080 -
Over-stuffed Javelins are exactly why you see so many videos with the main pin cover flapping in the wind... that and people failing to replace the stiffner on the tuck-tab... no thanks... Remember humidity and canopy design will cause pack volumes to vary quite a bit as well. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Rig size will not prevent a proper arch, i.e. pushing your hips forward. Maybe if the harness is too small, but not too big... The military routinely uses huge containers with 370+sq ft canopies. I've also seen people of your size jump containers that hold 253s and 260s... they all seemed to be able to arch and turn points just fine and they didn't have any more jumps than you. Why people insist on buying tiny containers and trying to cram big canopies in them is beyond my comprehension. People often "shop" for opinions here, this is an example. Hot tip: Buy a container that fits your canopies... that's why they are offered in different sizes. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

King Air B90... My vote would be for main-side instructor inside, reserve-side float. But I'm not an AFF-I (yet) so I didn't vote. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

I've seen the trick used effectively to give a rough idea of centering. Personally I shoot test video for alignment purposes. It's a pain, but wysiwyg. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

I think I speak for everyone in saying that we have no desire to see Dan in a skin-tight jumpsuit, with ballet shoes on, doing pirouettes in freefall... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Buy a cheap laser pointer and gaffer's tape it to the top of the box/camera so that you can get a idea of what its line of site is then mark your holes before you drill it. Personally, with so many good helmets with integrated boxes out there FF2, Rawa, etc... I'd wait, make some more jumps and buy a separate camera helmet. I know I like to have a non-camera helmet for h&ps, etc... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

What's the matter!!? 500 jumps and 5 hours of tunnel in a year and a half or so aren't enough for you!!!? NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

It's a shame the self-prophesed safety-naziis on this board, who post waaaay more than they skydive, really take the fun out of this place. Between the tandem hybrid, the "cowden" video, and skygods bitching about every little thing they can around here I'm about ready to call it quits too... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Best Skydiving Movie EVER (Chris Cowden)
mattjw916 replied to Floats18's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Lighten up dude... You are backsliding like a mofo in your avatar btw, get those legs out... I think I have been pushed, tripped, grabbed and had my exit intentionally funneled by my friends more times than I can count with no ill-effects. After you have been jumping for a while you will realize some groups develop a propensity for hosing the load since they take forever to climbout and exit. _That_ pisses me off since I'm usually one of the last groups because I freefly and will have to pull high-ish (if it's safe) so I can make it back or not get to swoop since I had to chew up all my altitude just getting back to the DZ.
