  1. Seconded... I have had no problems with mine. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  2. Holy keep it simple Batman... dude, have you ever realized you overanalyze the hell out of things? I mean, really dude... this isn't rocket science. Jump, fall, live... repeat. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  3. this is my biannual post in the speaker's corner.... so I gotta make it count!!! Everyone STFU and go skydive, or at least fly in a tunnel. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  4. DO IT!!!! Have fun... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  5. What's the "proper" procedure for doing a "pull-test"? I've heard a few different methods over the years but never really discussed it at length before. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  6. Just to add to the good info that Billvon posted... rear riser turns vary from canopy to canopy. I know my particular canopy (a mildly aggressive elliptical) tends to want to bank on the roll-axis more than turn flat-ish when you do a rear riser turn. Consequently it is a good idea to make your bail-out flat turn with toggles IMHO. Hitting the brakes so to speak will give you more time to react since you are arresting both your forward drive and your decent rate when you pull down on both toggles and give slight input left or right to "flat turn" the canopy. Just my $0.02. Have fun at Safety Day!!! NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  7. The expression, "If you go in without all your handles pulled, you are wrong!" comes to mind. There is no way on earth I would wait until the AAD fired if I _knew_ the drogue wasn't thrown and the TI was unresponsive. If I was the "student" on a tandem training jump I would at least make sure I had a cursory understanding of the operation of the handles of the particular tandem rig that my "instructor" was wearing since they are not all the same. The odds of this scenario occuring are extremely slim though but in that extremely unlikely event I'd like to think I'd dump the reserve and hope for the best. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  8. Like was said, consistency. I also like them since I can spend more time watching canopy traffic and flying to my setup point and less time checking my visual alti. _Personally_, I do not use a visual altimeter much at all. I always jump with one but rely on my eyes and my dytter more than my Suunto or Alti3. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  9. warnings only... It does the standard 3 warnings plus 3 canopy "setup" beeps and also swoop guide-mode beeps. It can also store several sets of freefall warnings that you can switch between without having to reprogram it between jumps. There is no logging feature. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  10. I've had very good success with the Sony .6x. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  11. Actually I already corrected the size of my Safire. It was placarded at 189 which, with the 7% differential, makes it approx a 175. Current Precision canopies and Icarus canopies are now measured with a comparable method AFAIK now. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  12. I _think_ this is the incident he is referring to: http://www.dropzone.com/news/SafetyBoardCitesProbable.shtml No jumpers exited the plane, so it is a GA accident as I understand it. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  13. Ironically, the efforts of a select few people in your town to garner opposition to the dropzone serves as a rallying cry to skydivers around the country as evident in this thread. Way to go!!! NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  14. Let's see: IT consultants, business owners, commercial pilots, dropzone managers, engineers, professional skydivers, etc. In other words, people with a much wider view of the world around them than a bunch of farmermcnasties in some armpit rural town. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  15. I have no interest in hosting the local bowling alley either, but somehow I don't think I could block one being built or being operated. I'm glad you brought that up... the nearest dropzone to me is an order of magnitude busier than your tiny airstrip of little consequence. Don't believe me? Here are the stats. Yours: Lawrence Smith Memorial Airport Harrisonville, Missouri, USA KLRY (OA6) Aircraft based on the field: 58 Single engine airplanes: 48 Multi engine airplanes: 9 Helicopters: 1 Aircraft operations: avg 33/day 55% local general aviation 44% transient general aviation
  16. lol, yeah... I'll be out there in the afternoon tomorrow if you are in the area. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  17. ...and when they open, I'll make sure I stop in so I can squeeze in some jumps while I am, "trampling crops, spooking livestock or scaling fences." Because after jumping all over the country in everything from dense urban areas to remote aggie regions my reputation as a crop-killing-cow-swooping-fence-scaler has yet to be cemented, so I better get started. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  18. werd... When I sold my last canopy I specifically asked my rigger to help me remove it from the risers and put it on a card so I wouldn't hose my buyer and make him waste time dicking with line continuity. Not every "newbie" is a total flake when it comes to gear. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  19. Quality of the video on tape is faaaar superior... why use the stick? Record to tape and import it to your computer via firewire and your fav editing program. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  20. I seem to remember a particular person messaging you about sharing tunnel time... I was there for 30min earlier today with one of my friends, we coulda bought a bigger block if you wanted to come and play... Msg me dude, I fly 3-4 times a week... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  21. If my camera setup was as big as Deuce's maybe I'd think about stretchy lines too, but mine is _much_ lighter and _I_ (sorry Deuce ) am much lighter than him too. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  22. I would say at _least_ 30% longer under my Nitron all things being equal. I know there is more there too, I just need more practice. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  23. Negative... I jump canopies lined with Technora since they are a) abrasion resistant b) dimensionally stable c) smaller pack volume. "Cool" was not a part of my decision-making process, sorry. The work MEL has done shows that HMA lines have a positive and tangible effect on speeds and swoop distances. And not just for the top 1% of canopy pilots either. Going from a Safire 175 with Vectran to a Nitron 170 with HMA was a H U G E increase in performance for me with only a 5ft² difference in canopy size. Obviously canopy design plays a big part there, but the lines are part of that equation, and it doesn't take a genius to realize that the same performance would not be possible with bulky Dacron.
