We found it faster to take the second option - particularly because we use what you're calling the rotational solution. It allows OC and the solo flyer to build the top of the block slightly offset. On the key OC goes at a 45 degree angle and adds fall rate.
  2. phoenixlpr had a good suggestion: get your own marker. Then it's pretty easy to prove you landed x meters from your target.

    a) Last year we mirrored. This year we'll probably go to DSS. b) IC c) No. d) In slot.
  4. It depends. It's definitely a negative mark against the dropzone. Later this year I'll be travelling to the USA to train with my 4-way team. The primary focus will be on tunnel time, jumping, and access to top-level coaching. Not swooping. However, if I'm just travelling to a dropzone for fun, or trying to choose between two DZs as my new home DZ, sensible policies around patterns & landings would be a big factor.
  5. Capsicum is the genus of plant. Capsaicin is the active ingredient that makes them hot.

  7. It's a pretty sad way to live a life. If you never trust anyone you're closing yourself off to a lot of wonderful experiences.
  8. As soon as I realise something is wrong. Wrong can be that "uh-oh, I don't like this picture" feeling in the pit of your stomach. Or it can be the "damn, I misjudged the conditions and screwed the pooch on the pattern". Or even "bugger, that student is flying too close to my airspace for comfort."
  9. Are you sure about that? I've seen one damaged by water contact, despite the presence of a Protektor. I'm curious as to whether that was a fluke incident... ...but the big hole in the back of the Protektor, right over the hole in the back of the Viso's casing, leaves me a little suspicious.
  10. I've talked to Glenn and it sounds like they're getting out of the business .
  11. As far as I know, the Optima and the Neptune are the only two that offer canopy alerts. The Optima also offers a set of beeps that get faster the closer you get to your turn point. Very handy. It's also smaller and cheaper. Major downside: it's not waterproof, and the Protektor isn't well designed. The Neptune is more expensive and seems to still have occasional software issues. It is, however, waterproof.
  12. Based on your description, it really doesn't sound like a swoop. Sounds like someone spiralling over the landing area, and something that the proposed BSR would do nothing to mitigate. edit: not that I'm against the BSR. If properly written, it would be very useful. It is, however, far from a comprehensive solution.
  13. Jesus dude. If she sits through that movie & calls you the next day, then she's definitely got no taste. Maybe she'd be perfect for you!
  14. ~$50 for an internal burner (if you have a desktop). ~$100 for an external one - prob. USB2.
  15. Seems to be a uniquely Australian term for a moving service - a truck and a couple of strong guys to help you pack up and move house.
  16. Eat better and exercise more. Problem solved.
  17. I also like the Pilot's Lounge idea. edit: How about a "Pilot's Lounge" and an "Other Canopy Sports" forum?
  18. Skydive Express at York, outside Perth, is the only turbine DZ in WA. They run a Caravan and have excellent facilities. Rather nicely for you, they also have Cameron Rolfe. He's won the last two Australian Canopy Piloting Championships and came 7th at the last World Champs of Canopy Piloting in Vienna last year. Nice guy and by all accounts a very good coach. PM me if you want his contact details.
  19. My only advice: try setting yourself a goal of three days a week instead of five. If you can do five, cool, but if you end up too busy/tired/whatever to run one day, then you won't feel like you've failed.
  20. Fuck it. Let's go back to the days when jumping a square meant that no-one would do RW with you. You've just been generation-gapped .
