  1. Go on, show off the flags you jumped with last weekend...
  2. Whereas I'm the opposite. I've done 20-odd dives, but since I'm not seriously into looking at fish, it all got a little boring. Was nice to learn though. Anyone want to buy a Suunto Stinger? Only dived twice...
  3. Yeah i think they actually went that way because of JAWS ...and the Monty Python "Bruce" sketch. After all, it's an Aussie shark!
  4. Agreed. As long as Aussies get discount jump tickets on her.
  5. Nice. I can think of a few here that could use that as their signature... .
  6. Nice one. Glad to hear you're ready to play again
  7. From my perspective, there's no point pulling below 3k, absent exceptional circumstances. FFing I often pull a little higher, because the spot tends to be longer. Personally, regularly pulling at 2k5 or lower on a high-performance canopy is risk I don't want. If you're normally open at 1600-1800ft and have a diving twisty thing, the 3-4 seconds it takes to decide that it's unsolvable and it's time to go can put you down at 1000ft. Take an extra second or two to find your reserve handle 'cause you're dizzy and all of a sudden you're down in "I really hope I don't have a reserve pilot chute hesitation" territory...
  8. The same company that lost a DC-8 to a fire started by an incorrectly-manufactured lithium ion battery?
  9. Every generation says that when they get older, and it's always bullshit.
  10. Congrats. That's an accomplishment of note.
  11. vs Anyone else noticing a problem with this?
  12. By all accounts the shortage of tandem instructors is because sport skydiving in NZ has all but disappeared... reasons for this vary depending on who you talk to.
  13. You've always had to spend a lot of money to get good. It's just that now you need to mix tunnel and jumps. And yes, soon we're going to be obsolete. That's the way of the world.
  14. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/2/story.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10436518 From the article: Fair comment? I know I've been more wary about visiting the USA in the last couple of years than before. That said, the last time I entered the USA through LAX I had absolutely no issues. It may help that I'm tall, white, Irish, and have a nice smile. Anyone else have comments or viewpoints?
  15. And everything that Pat Robertson says is official policy of the USA?
  16. Section 7.4 of the APF Training Operations Manual (pdf) is what you seek: CI = Chief Instructor, and the person ultimately responsible for all that happens on the DZ. DZSO = DZ Safety Officer. Similar to the USPA's S&TA.
  17. The people that worry me the most are the ones that normally jump at small DZs, then show up at multi-turbine boogies. They're used to having the sky to themselves and often fly that way even when there's 20 other canopies in the sky with them.
  18. Do a search on wing loading. There's been a huge amount of discussion. Make sure you read the PD document "Wing Loading and Its Effects"
  19. If you want to learn to swoop, a Sabre-2 150 would probably do just nicely.
  20. I believe that an Australian operator bought two CASAs from Fayard recently, so you might want to check if there are still four...
  21. No audio on this computer - a 76 what? Safire2 or JVX would make quite a difference.
