  1. It's an arc, not an arch. As to your question, it depends on a) the canopy, b) your wingloading, and c) your speed. A & B) On a Spectre 190 loaded at 0.8 it may climb without any input. A Velocity loaded at 2.2 will smack you into the ground and kill you. Most canopies are somewhere in between. C) Speed equals lift - the faster you're going the more the canopy will want to recover and the more effect your inputs will have.
  2. You're already loading the canopy at over 1.2. Options if you want more performance: try a Safire2 210 or Sabre2 210. Or, learn to really fly the Spectre you've got at the moment. Can you do everything on Bill von Novak's Downsizing Checklist? If you get a container to fit a 210, you can downsize to a 190 later on without having to sell it.
  3. It's not a hugely common problem, though it does occur. I recall discussion about this in the past - try doing a search (see Search Posts above).

    wanted

If you make it to Sydney we'll find you a loaner and go for a jump... ...Squeak's closer though .
  5. What does being an experienced TM give you over being an experienced RWer? I don't have a tandem rating, so I don't know what I don't know. And yes, I'm aware that my second sentence pretty much answers the first, but I'm looking for you to spell out some examples for me - I don't want to have to get a tandem rating just to properly understand the point you're making .
  6. There are a number of forces acting on a slider during the opening sequence. Just after the canopy comes out of the d-bag, you're still descending vertically. The canopy is trying to inflate -> lines move further apart, pushing down the slider. In opposition to this is the force created by the air on the slider, holding the slider up the lines. As you decelerate, the force holding the slider up the lines decreases (because the force from the air is less) and the slider moves down, allowing the canopy to continue to inflate. As to the "one true size", I don't think there's one. But then I'm not a parachute designer.

    Real Tennis

Second last pic on this page.
  8. This is not the first time I've read that accusation on these forums. I've yet to see anyone willing to back up their accusations with the name(s) of the CDs taking bribes. If you're sure, name names. If you're not, then why are you posting about it?
  9. Will's other thread, in which in he updates folk on the actions he's taken to avoid a recurrence of the problem.
  10. Thanks mate. Much appreciated.
  11. They work just fine. Because of the reduced hearing under canopy, I usually use them for the ride up but remove them before exit.
  12. You could upload the relevant footage to http://www.skydivingmovies.com and the doubters could see for themselves.
  13. 20348-1782-005 shows your best side.
  14. For that reason, the APF has banned them by name...
  15. If someone wants to turn the mp4 into an ISO image for burning to DVD, I'd be happy to host it. MPEG4 generally requires a fair amount of CPU power to play correctly, so computers more than 4-5 years old may struggle. At the moment, my last mile is wireless, so I don't really have the facility to do the download/conversion/upload.
  16. I'm surprised that it's more noticeable when the brakes are released, as its been my experience that elliptical canopies are more responsive to harness input when in deployment brakes. Under canopy, have you checked that the three rings are level with each other? Have you tried swapping out the risers? (If you need a spare set to try this with, PM me & I'll post you a set of spares). You may get a bunch more useful answers in the Gear & Rigging forum... edit: Do you do your legstraps up to the same length or the same tension? My right leg is thicker than my left (years of soccer), so if I do the legstraps up to the same length, I get a built-in turn. If I do them up to the same tension, all is fine.
  17. It's normal. It seems to taper off a bit somewhere around about 100 jumps, but it does seem to stay at a fairly high level almost indefinitely. That said, I've only been jumping for a little under 4 years.
  18. You can attach pictures instead of inlining them. Signatures are allowed. The latest version of this codebase is running at BASEjumper.com. I'd expect this site to get upgraded in due course.
  19. You may or may not be surprised to find out how often generators fail to kick in correctly.
  20. I know plenty of 4-way camera flyers that jump crossbraces without issue. I've had one chop during a training jump. If the guy in the video had been a) more over the top, and b) had waited until the team had started tracking, then he'd have had plenty of room to have a mal. As it was, he was off to the side and deployed before the jumpers started tracking, contributing to the lack of separation. I'd also be curious as to how far the 4-way jumpers actually tracked.
  21. Just ask PD to change the slider at the same time.
