  1. Is that allowed in the UK rules? I know that the Aussie rules have specifics about the number of team members that can be swapped out before the team becomes ineligible to represent.
  2. Results. 1. Mike Vaughan 2. Shannon Pilcher 3. Pablo Hernandez Mike's definitely having a good summer
  3. - A smile - A desire to listen to your instructors - Cash. It's better to wait until you've spent time at your new DZ before buying gear - they'll be able to help you out and make sure you buy gear that's appropriate to you.
  4. You could carry less clothes or pay the excess baggage charge. If you've got too much stuff, you've got too much stuff .
  5. You'll learn a lot from Scott's ground course even if you can't jump. Wrap up well from now 'til then, take Vitamin C and you might be surprised how well you feel. Oh, and give Scott a big sloppy kiss from me.
  6. Beer is always a good ice-breaker. Besides, it's much easier to approach and chat to random strangers if you're drunk slightly tipsy . Welcome to the sport!
  7. Jay beat John on every round bar two - he was 30cm behind on one distance run, and the other was a 0 on a speed round. Shows just how important it is to be consistently hitting the gates I suppose...
  8. There's a lot of very good information on technique Brian Germain's book The Parachute And Its Pilot.
  9. If you don't like it, go give AFFI shit. He's the creator.
  10. Turramurra is the beach. On the Northern Beaches, near Narrabeen.
  11. How the hell do you manage to pay $16 in tolls to get to the DZ? From Bondi to Picton you take Bondi -> Carrington -> Darley -> Allision -> Darcy -> South Dowling -> M5. The toll on the M5 is $3.80, and you can claim $3.45 of that back using the M4/M5 cashback scheme. Total toll cost is about 70c and travel time is about 45-50min in the morning. If that's too far for you, then why do you live in Bondi with all the pissed Brits and Irish that can't swim? There's plenty of places & beaches far closer to the DZ.
  12. That green arrow is pointing to somewhere in the vicinity of Mt Druitt or St Marys. That's a very long way from sailing, and not necessarily the most interesting area either. Just so ya know. But Sydney is a spectacular city, particularly if you like sailing.
  13. Yep. If you're not a FTE you better be putting a large chunk of that paycheck into the bank for the leaner times.
  14. Tandems always have the right of way, even if the TM is flying like a jerk. There's an innocent passenger on board. If you're flying a sub 100sqft canopy, you can easily get out of the way, and if your awareness is good, you should be able to do it early enough to still enjoy your landing.
  15. You've got brakes on the Spectre, right? Applying them will flatten out the glide angle for getting back from longer spots. Both the Safire2 and Pilot have great openings and nice landings. The Pilot has a very flat glide angle, but higher riser pressure. If you never wanted to swoop, I'd say go get a Pilot. If you wanted to learn to swoop in the future I'd say get a Safire2. Both are excellent canopies. To be honest, you've still not really provided a compelling reason for spending two thousand dollars on a canopy. You're articulating a vague dissatisfaction with the Spectre, but not much more.
  16. What do you want to get out of your new canopy? Your post doesn't address that at all.
  17. Nicely done. Keep it up.
  18. 0 : 8 : 0 Coached 4-way for the weekend. Had an absolute ball. Still smiling.
  19. I did ~400 jumps on a Spectre 190. Lovely canopies. Tell the kids to shut up.
  20. I've turned block 7 (sidebuddies-sidebuddies) at 140+mph.
