  1. Stop whining and cook your own breakfast if you don't want to pay the price. Healthier too.
  2. It's worth noting that the rules for Speed Star vary between countries. I believe the Australian record is about 10.1 sec.
  3. So use an external source of entropy.
  4. No. Zimmerman had all sorts of legal troubles with the Federal Government for a number of years, but he did not go to jail. PGP uses standard encryption algorithms and was widely published prior to the US government starting its case against Zimmerman. So, I'm skeptical of claims that backdoors were inserted. Anyone got a credible source? Go join the EFF.
  5. Further, IMO, TMs generally should be paid more than cam flyers, simply because: ~TM has a risker job ~TM has someone else's life in their hands ~TM has to be nice, chatty, and professional. Cam flyer can just fall asleep in the plane. ~Finally, I've no interest in being either a TM or a cam flyer, so I thought I'd disagree with you because I can .
  6. Changing the MAC address is easy on many (most?) NICs.
  7. Take a tour out of Cairns to see the Great Barrier Reef. Sydney is better done on your own rather than as part of an organized group (come say hi while you're here). Much more fun to just wander 'round and see places. NZ I can't help with. http://www.tourismaustralia.com can help plan the Reef expedition.
  8. That's from South Australia. 2005-6 timeframe.
  9. In addition to those mentioned, Hervey Bay Skydivers is near to Fraser Island. Fraser Island is full of tourist accommodation. Some of the Queensland DZs may be near a beach, but I'm not sure how many fun jumpers there are there...
  10. A friend has a Cookie one, and it looks damn slick. Not much in the way of snag potential at all... never seen a BH one to compare.
  11. They may have slightly different approaches, but to say Bill's not making a difference is a little unfair.
  12. Do a search (there's a "Search Posts" link above). Specific dropzones have been listed in previous discussions. IIRC, one is in Tennessee.
  13. Nice. Gay, lesbian, fat, skinny, uptight and very very loose. All good
  14. Iraq is my country? Or do you mean Russia? I'm confused...
  15. If, last week, someone with 50 jumps and six months in the sport had told you you were being reckless in the way you fly, how would you have reacted? Now, how do you think someone with 20,000 jumps and 20+ years would react to you telling them the same? The people I'm thinking of are of the genuine belief that they're not doing anything wrong. It's a credibility gap, and I'm still not sure of the correct way to bridge it.
  16. That they do. I have a pair on my Talon and a pair on my Icon. I love the toggles and they are excellent at handling my custom requests.
  17. That's the hard bit. If Ian can help educate the older generation of I've-had-an-AFF-rating-since-before-you-finished-high-school-punk jumpers the skies will be a lot safer. Not just because of the way they fly, but because newer jumpers look up to their AFF instructors and assume that the way they skydive reflects best practices. That was a really long-winded way of saying "I agree with you" . Pissing off a bunch of extremely experienced, extremely competent skydivers because one aspect of their jumping hasn't kept pace with the evolution in the sport would be counterproductive. As Ian has constantly said, education is the key. Education of everyone, from the 200-jump "I'm a hotshot swooper" to the 20,000-jump "sashaying my Stiletto through the pattern and toggle-hooking it at 150ft is fine. I've been doing it for 15 years!" jumper.
  18. To jump in Australia you will need to become an APF member. There are temporary and year-long memberships available. The Chief Instructor at the dropzone you first visit will assess your existing overseas licence & competence and award you appropriate APF privileges. Instructional & rigging ratings have a separate migration procedure. Contact the APF for more details. Most sport-jumping licenses are permanent. Display-jump licenses and instructional ratings need to be renewed.
  19. 1- Waterproofing, or the lack thereof. This is my biggest issue. 2- The Protektor does not fix issue (1) and makes it bloody hard to read the Viso display in afternoon sunlight. 3- The Protektor does not fit properly on the included wrist-mount, causing the Protecktor to tear out of its mounts. 4- The included wrist-mount sucks when someone takes a grip over your alti on a big-way. 5- Toughness: I've had an Optima killed by a knee to the head closing a block 6 (Stardian-Stardian). The blow was not hard enough to hurt or stun, and the Optima was inside my helmet.
