Umm, this isn't the CRW forum; they're talking about 4-way FS .

I have a problem with the media use of this phrase, above. Do they presume that every skydiving death is a murder? When there is a fatal traffic accident, do they report it as; "Police said that they were not currently treating this death as suspicious"? That seems like a totally unnecessary thing to say, and casts a bad light on skydivers, where none is deserved. It's the standard media phrase in the UK when referring to the status of a police investigation into a death. If someone falls off a cliff, has a heart attack in the street, or gets run over by a car, that's the phrase that'll be used. Different cultures

Many tall people have most of their height in their legs. I'm 6'3" and can happily wear the rigs of many people shorter than 5'11". I know three people who can all share the same rig. They're 5'2", 5'10", and 6'8".

Sixteen isn't that young. At least he's using condoms

He didn't claim that. He claimed it was 'relevant' but failed to elaborate on what he meant by that.

Nothing. Which is why he didn't reply to you .

It's 'deficient'. This is not a pedantic attack of the spelling police; it's 'helping you grow your store of knowledge'.

Max Effective Wing Loading on a Non-Crossbraced
bob.dino replied to Widgeon's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
To the best of my knowledge, closing up the nose was to slow down the openings to a tolerable speed. -
You can't see how much weight is on each riser set though. Again, the risers can be exactly even, but still have more weight one one side than the other, which is magnified in a spin. If the risers are even but there's a different load on the two riser sets, the parachute must be exerting a differing force on each riser set. Assume the parachute is turning left. This implies that you're exerting a greater force on the left riser set. If the risers are level with respect to the parachute, then the left side of the parachute is exerting a greater upward force - lift - than the right side. If the lhs of the parachute is producing more lift than the rhs, the parachute will recover to level flight. This implies that harness turns don't work. What am I missing?

The Nomad? The plane known as the Widow-Maker?

As soon as the first person from the group lands and notifies the S&TA/DZO/safety person that there's been a reserve deployment. Hopefully 'looking for the jumper' simply involves looking up and seeing that they're under a fully-inflated reserve at 5-6,000ft.

Don't forget to note the fact that it's unairworthy on the warning label. Kolla from PD on how they do it.

Completing AFF at different DZ - is it a bad idea?
bob.dino replied to kirrz's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I started my AFF at Picton and finished at Nagambie, so it is doable. Probably. Contact the office - (02) 97919155 or admin@sydneyskydivers.com.au - and ask them. Or ask Phil next time you're at the DZ. If you can't get an answer out of them, contact the APF. The exact content of AFF courses seems to vary a little by dropzone and by training organisation. As to the exact differences, well, you'll have to ask the Thai DZ... Best of luck. -
I have my shiney new Samurai loaded at 1.2 to play with. It's plenty for now; I've no desire to scare myself witless under something smaller just yet

So all parachutes are positively stable in the roll axis when flown in deployment brakes? All your points make sense. I'm just attempting to tease all this out in my head, as I've no intention of borrowing a Velo or VX to test this stuff out for real...

He ain't drunk. He's just drinking. One more round won't get him down.

Given that many hp canopies exhibit oversteer to some degree, is it possible that those characteristics are exaggerated when the canopy is flying with brakes set? In other words, is it possible that some asymmetry causes the turn to start, but once everything is symmetrical, the canopy could continue turning?

Good to hear you're back in the air!
