  1. Right now, yes it is. Skydiving gives me a lot of things - focus, freedom, an arena to learn about myself. It's also a risk management sport, and it's quite possible that in the future I'll decide that I can't manage the risks to my own satisfaction.
  2. Our van allows twelve behind the line... ...and that MCR looks like a guaranteed handle-puller. Or, if everyone doesn't stack up nicely, a shoulder dislocater.

    Bourbon

Come to Mike's tonight and I'll bring the bottle.... or at least a six-pack of beer.

    Bourbon

It's almost 30C here, very humid, and my house has no AC. Rocks are required to get the bourbon to the right temperature. And if you're going to adulterate good bourbon, the ice damn well better look like dolphins.

    Bourbon

The downside to expensive bourbon and scotch is that you feel guilty drinking it unless it's a special occasion. Bulleit is damn nice, but not so expensive I have to debate about pouring myself a measure. Besides, if I owned a bundle of expensive alcohol I'd have to make sure I never had a party. Once I had to watch friends putting coke into Talisker. That hurt.
  6. A friend of mine is using his to stop oil staining the concrete in his garage.

    Bourbon

An ex-girlfriend bought an ice-tray with dolphin-shaped ice cubes for me, as part of a really nice gift pack for valentines one year.

    Bourbon

I'm sitting here, drinking a bourbon on the rocks. The bourbon is Bulleit, and the rocks are shaped like dolphins. Beat that, motherfuckers.
  9. He's a man who can write with a style matched only by a couple of others on this site. Dunno what he's up to, but if it's a sabbatical from the 'net, tell him I said hi and wish him well.
  10. In general, 0.9 - 1.1 or so, with no-one under anything smaller than a 170... I might be able to find a very heavy person whose first rig was loaded higher than 1.1, and I'm sure I could find a light girl whose wingloading was less than 0.9, but the average would be close to or maybe a little less than 1.0.
  11. 1 gold medal in Intermediate 4-way at Aussie Nats : 43 jumps since Dec 27 : 1, for first gold at a nationals. Other numbers of note: 1 friend bouncing 3 friends breaking their backs, one seriously. 2000km driven to Toogoolawah and back 1 frilly shirt worn lots of beer drunk, exact numbers unknown. 47: max temp, in celcius, during training camp. 117: the same temp in fahrenheit.

  17. You poor thing . There's not a thing I can say that'll make the pain go away, but for what it's worth, know that you're in my thoughts here on the other side of the world... edit: kudos to Suds for helping out.

  19. You had whipped cream licked out of your ass crack by a male stripper on your wedding night?
  20. Was that a Woomera? They're legal in Australia for people with over 500 jumps. I've seen one covered in Cane Toad skin! Very scary looking rig at first!
  21. The most popular 9-cells for junior jumpers: Sabre2 Safire2 Pilot The most popular 7-cells for junior jumpers: Spectre Triathlon Any of these will serve you well. If possible, rent or demo before you buy to see which you like most. Stilettos and Diablos are not suitable canopies for less-experienced jumpers; they're fully elliptical. There's a huge amount of information on this site about all the canopies listed above. Get yourself a coffee/cold beer, use the Search Posts link near the top of the page, and settle down for a lot of reading .
