LOL, well put!

I think I'm real because you gave me drugs at Eloy. Then again, I can't remember because of the drugs. But then again, the reason I can't remember is because of the drugs I think you gave me so therefore hipsofatso I must exist. (or you don't really exist and I dreamt the whole thing). Will PS thanks again for the drugs, made my skydives a lot more pleasurable (apart from the annoying constant loud beeping noises).

How fucking stupid is that? Completely disregarding the large number of jumps that get made at those objects. That is the equivalent of saying that the M1 is one of the most dangerous roads in Britain because of the number of fatalities, never mind the traffic volume.

Do we do enough to deter incidents?
skreamer replied to diablopilot's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
You mean something like the Ranch's "Wall of Pain". Excellent idea (even better if it has sound effects). BTW I head the Ranch got rid of the famous "Wall", hope this isn't true - anybody confirm? Will -
What exactly did we (the fun jumpers) get more of?
-
No worries dude, from those emails it is obvious this was a mix-up of forums and you didn't even mention BASE to the editor. No harm done (just some flame proof underwear tested).
-
From that article : You really expect your editor friend to come up with better than that? His target market is yobs wearing white trainers, Ben Sherman clothes and a single gold earring, not a handful of BASE jumpers. There is no need for stories, don't want any stories. The less attention the easier it is for us to quietly get on with what we do (for ourselves). Here is the Team Crank web-site, you can contact them via that (good luck). If you want to see more canopy sports in the public eye then write about strictly legal canopy sports. BASE is not in the public eye in the UK and that is a good thing (IMHO). We just don't need it so why do it? Will

Well I don't see you actually naming names (OK the magazine is fairly obvious) so would hope you wouldn't lose business just for having this discussion.
-
Yeah, I see too many coaches and AFF instructors doing fun jumps with low timers. They should stop, don't they know what their skills are worth in the market-place? Some people get more out of skydiving than a second income. Will

How about putting up a NSFW before you go posting stuff like that! My retinas are scarred. (I just had a vision of Ian Drennan walking out of that hangar in 'that' freefly suit - I might need therapy )
-
That premature scared the hell out of me (pucker factor for you must've been up there). What was the story behind that, PC accidentally dislodged by other jumper, spandex worn out?
-
Hehe, just cos I'm not renewing doesn't mean I'm going to stop jumping in the UK.
-
Me. If the price of petrol went up considerably wouldn't you bitch as well? (or do you walk to all your objects? )

I think a lot of it comes down to awareness. You overcome sensory overload and become more aware by doing more jumps. By practicing risk analysis and management along with doing more jumps you become more aware. Eventually you should be aware enough to discern between fear and a bad feeling (figure out what is causing the bad feeling and react appropriately). For newbie jumpers like me, gaining this awareness is the challenging part. I find myself relying a lot on the experienced guys for if/whys and if nots/why nots (and asking why a lot). I can think of one example very recently where by example an experienced jumper showed me the wiser option (PCA rather than freefall because of wind direction). If you are only worried about overcoming the fear, perhaps your assessment of all the relevant conditions and aspects of the jump won't be so good. Jumping with experienced people is very important to me at this stage. Sorry, bit off topic from the original question. Will

"LOW TURNS ARE KILLING BPA MEMBERS!" So, if I am no longer a BPA member am I safe from low turns? Too many skydivers hooking themself in? Get every DZ to put up a poster, that'll make all the difference.
-
Lets do that then. We have some friends at the Ranch I'd like to visit, plus Cross Keys looks good too. You are right, there are more DZs than Eloy, lets go have some fun. (bring Jerry) Will

Just checked the USPA web-site. Only $60 (roughly £40) for foreign USPA membership. My flight to Eloy cost me £320, jumps were $15,50 (roughly £9). So I could fly to Eloy for a week and do fifty jumps paying about £810 (£450 for jump tickets, £320 for flight and £40 for USPA membership). Or I could do fifty jumps in the UK (weather permitting) for £950 (£850 for jump tickets and £100 for BPA membership). Hmmm, and of course if I went to Eloy for two weeks at a time the cheap jumps would even further off-set the cost of the flight. And of course there is the petrol money that driving to the DZ sets me back (over £100 per month during the summer). I'm with Satan - looks like Sweden or the states is the way to go. Will be interesting to see how the BPA attempts to keep their numbers up once enough skydivers start doing the maths. I'll still keep jumping in the UK but don't think I will be renewing my BPA membership.

How far above the slider do you make these wraps? Is 3M tape the brown paper masking tape?
-
If I wasn't still drunk from last night's illegal PCA jump Sorry man, those don't count. (which means by his logic his Jesus jump wasn't the real thing either. ).

This new BASE-related article was recently brought to my attention :

Still better than the caps Gus now wants to pop in my ass!

Sweet! (BTW how much does your mom charge for facials?)

Take that back. I don't believe I've called GWB a maniac.

With the technology used in warfare today size doesn't equal strength. Also, when using conscription you might have a large army but they might not be that motivated.
