And they still believe the Reagan lie and see Bush as the resurrection. They still believe that Obama is a Muslim. Any bad mouthing of big business is worthy of a stoning. Never is heard a discouraging word and the delusional are cloudy all day... "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

I do not think, nor do I claim to know the answers to the questions I asked. I may, or may not reject his answer. If I feel that his answer is solely scripture and void of any fact and/or proof, it is my prerogative to reject. Enlightened despair? I offer no such thing. Truth? It is impossible to claim truth when one cannot back up such claims with concrete evidence. I can claim that each and everyone of us will die someday. I have evidence of such. I cannot claim that each and everyone of us will go to Heaven or hell. I have no evidence of such and neither do you. Hope? I do not believe in false hope. I do believe in helping people to be comfortable. I would not tell someone that I will pray for them and that God will pull them through. I would not tell someone that with God all things are possible. That is false hope. I rather tell a person to try the the best they can. If everything fails, oh well, that's life. We live and we die. Very simple. What annoys me is the people who preach the power of their God and quickly change the tune when the first sermon prove to be less than zero. Such as "God will bring them home safe." The tune changes when the bodies are found in a shallow grave. False hope. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

It is puzzling. Here in Lawrence county, MO. 67.70% of the registered voters are republican. Income: The median income for a household in the county was $31,239, and the median income for a family was $36,846. Males had a median income of $27,309 versus $18,990 for females. The per capita income for the county was $15,399. About 11.00% of families and 14.10% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.50% of those under age 18 and 11.80% of those age 65 or over. There are a large number in this county that use food stamps, among other entitlements. This is 101%, hardcore bible belt. The name Obama is viewed as a curse word, yet it is not at all uncommon to see a food voucher card at the check-out at the grocery store. The republican party is pushed heavily in this area and the very same people who scream about entitlements are the people using them! I'm still waiting for an answer to my questions. Are you just refusing to answer, or do you not have an answer? I posted this several pages back. The questions are in bold type. You stated that you believe that God intervened and saved your child. Giving the enormous amount of suffering in Africa that is, only now, in the headlines, the vast number of children that are dying from starvation, with no end or hope in sight. Why do you feel that a God would see your child as more important to save than the thousands who are dying of starvation? How about the large number of children who have suffered over the many years the world over? Are all of these children less important than yours in your God's eyes? Put the rear on this AM. Did the front last night. Thought it would be cooler this morning to do it. Hit 100 by 10am. Anyways, good looking tires. Plenty of meat. They seem to ride smooth. Only put 30 miles on them, not quite broke in. If I get twice as much mileage on them as I do the Dunlops, I'll be happy. It hit 103 around here. Like riding in a blast furnace. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
-
Actually, I'm amazed that the sides hold up so well, with the roads around here being extremely curvy. Although, there is more meat on the sides than in the center. The new tires got here last night at about 6:30. Waited until 8pm for it to cool down and mounted the front. It was still above 100. Going out to mount the rear in a few before the temp goes above 100. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

Apple Computer has more cash than the U.S. Government

man, you couldn't be more wrong here, confusing that person's marginal tax rate with his effective tax rate. The 25% bracket STARTS at 34,500. He doesn't pay a single dollar at that rate. Most of this income falls under the 15% bracket, from 8500-34500. The first 8500 get taxed at 10%. However, you can't forget about the standard deduction of 9350. So here's how it really breaks down: 0-9350: 0$ paid 9350-17850 850$ paid @ 10% 17850-34500 2498$ paid @ 15% total taxes 3348$ paid - effective tax rate = 9.7%. Not remotely close to 25%, or Apple's 24.4%, which btw is much higher than a lot of corporations are paying. It's a typical rate for people in the higher side of $150k. You're correct. Thanks for pointing that out. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young -
Was it looking like this. This is the 404 I took off. I kept the 401 that I replaced with the 404 as a back up tire as it still had some tread showing. This is after near 3000 miles. I wasn't far from home when the thread made it's appearance. By the time I got home it was near blow out. Maybe another mile or two. The Kendas' should be here in 5 hours. Apple Computer has more cash than the U.S. Government

I misinterpret this and did take it the wrong way. Thanks for pointing that out: (cash transfer benefits other than Social Security and unemployment, such as TANF and SSI) I tend to speed read, and at times, missing key points. You are right. From misinterpreting the above I failed to recognize the relationship in the chart. The $0-10,000 income range are the cash transfer group. I should had paid greater attention to what I was reading. Thanks for pointing that out. Chart one is disturbing as it is obvious that some people do not deserve the credit (at least, that is my assumption, yet on an individuals particular case, I have no idea.) These standard income tax provisions include personal exemptions for taxpayers and dependents and the standard deduction. These provisions are part of the basic progressive income tax structure that intend to exempt subsistence levels of income from tax and to adjust for differences in ability to pay based on family size. So is the answer 'do away with the progressive tax structure'? Of all nontaxable units, half would still owe no tax in 2011 if all tax expenditures were repealed and only these standard income tax provisions applied. The other half owes no tax because of tax expenditures. Those proportions vary across income categories. Virtually all nontaxable units in the lowest income group pay no tax because of the standard income tax provisions alone, but this share diminishes rapidly with income and nearly all nontaxable units with incomes above $30,000 pay no tax because of tax expenditures (see chart 1 and table 1). So, do away with expenditures for those above $30K? I would give leeway for the $30-40K group, depending on children, type of home (hey, if you want to carry a $250K mortgage, don't expect the taxpayer to foot your bill. Buy a $50K home and live within your means.) I'm fine with the elderly (minus those who can afford a very comfortable life) and the working poor receiving the cut. It's the rest that I see as the problem. Those who can easily jump through the loop holes. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young -

$65.2B was earned in one year. Not accumulated over several decades. Apple Inc. had revenues for the full year 2010 of $65.2B. Dude, just barely a day ago, in this very thread, you acknowledged there's a difference between revenue and taxable profits. You seem to have already forgotten that revenue doesn't just immediately become cash on hand. /edited to add: This whole thread is ridiculous, and I hate (yes, hate) idiotic comparisons like how much cash Apple has on hand vs. how much the US treasury has on hand. Who cares? Why Apple would have cash and what they do with it has nothing to do with the federal government's finances. The federal government isn't supposed to have tons of cash on hand. In fact, I'd be pissed if they did. You are correct. My mistake. So, I did a search to see how Apple Inc. became so successful in such a short time. The first link is a year old. Good stuff, however. As of this article, Apple had $41B in the bank. That is impressive. The second link (taken from the first) is more in-depth on where the money comes from. Maybe the U.S. government should had bought Apple stock, instead of borrowing from China. http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/07/12/how-apple-maintains-explosive-earnings-growth/ http://bullishcross.com/2010/06/2010-apples-63-5-billion-revenue-year/ "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." $65.2B was earned in one year. Not accumulated over several decades. Apple Inc. had revenues for the full year 2010 of $65.2B. This was 78.5% above the prior year's results. http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/earnings/earnings.asp?ticker=AAPL:US Apple is now the worlds largest supplier of Smartphones Along with the Ipad, as well as their computers, and all being manufactured in China, it is easy to see how they grew so fast over years time. GSXR1100N 1127 CC reworking of the exhaust, bigger carbs (40mm), Yosh cams, Stage III, K&N, always on pavement, you really would not want to ride it only anything else. I get two oil changes per rear tire, three per front tire. The curvy stuff keeps the wear even, the straight up stuff is really bad for the tires, it makes the middle go flat. Mine are their second softest compound, really good in rain though. Yeah I do not use the brakes unless necessary, downshift and getting big (catching air) is usually enough unless I need to be really slow. I ride fairly aggressively when conditions permit (newer pavement and no loose crap) Thanks. Like you, I,m on the curvy roads, more than straight roads. Also, as you do, I engine brake more than slapping on the binders. Tires while be here on Monday. Odd, the battery showed up, just past 6pm on Friday. Tracking shows that it was shipped at the same time as the tires were. Oh well, anyways... another rider's review... Apple Computer has more cash than the U.S. Government
freethefly replied to riddler's topic in Speakers Corner
It's written into the tax code. Evidently, congress thought it was fair, many years ago. Why do you find it unfair that a 90 year old person in a nursing home gets a tax break? When you become of age to enjoy the break that the elderly enjoy will you complain that it is not fair that you do not pay federal income tax? I really doubt it. Mike, I find it somewhat puzzling that on some issues you preach an Anti-federalist agenda against the central government. At times, you oppose the federal government and their ever grabbing hands. On issues concerning guns, you balk at any type of control. Yet, on an issues, such as tax breaks for the elderly and the working poor, you sound like a Federalist reaching further under the blanket to grab even more. So, which are you, Anti-federalist or Pro-federalist? "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young -
So.... what you are saying is, with God, all things are not possible. But then, I made no mention of a color T.V.. I did, however, mention the suffering children that an almighty loving God who, without doubt, has turned his back on and surely has forsaken them to intervene on behalf of a child in America (which has been claimed.) Now, go have your hearing checked, as I'm sure that whoosh was extremely detrimental to your auditory health (or possibly your ability to comprehend.) Apple Computer has more cash than the U.S. Government

My mother is in the 44% group. She is 76 years old. Not in the best health. She worked until she was about 72 years old. She lives on a fixed income. Part from my fathers military retirement, part from SSI. She paid into the system her entire live. Like many in this group, she needs every dime she has. It would not be fair to expect those who worked hard and saved, only to see it quickly melt away due to an economy that gets worst as the days go on, to pay even more while the richest of the rich enjoy tax shelters that allow them to pay very little if nothing at all. The 30.4 working poor barely make enough to feed themselves and their children. They do pay, one way or another to support their local economy, as do the elderly, by way of sales tax, personal property tax (for States that has such). They also pay State taxes (as does my mother.) I'm sure most would be fine with paying Federal taxes if given a wage that would improve their existence.. However, there are those who work hard to keep that from happening. We can't have it both ways. It's one way or the other. If they were to pay taxes, that money, plus what break they already receive, would just come back to them. By not paying the tax, merely cuts out the middle man (the government.) Better to let them use the full dollar of their meager earnings than to wrap it in red tape and only give them a small percent. This way, the taxpayer pays less in the long run. As time goes on and the economy gets worst, we are going to look back on 30.4% and consider that the 'good old days.' As for the rich and how they are able to pay little, if no taxes? You'll have to ask the politicians who wrote it into the tax codes. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young -

44% are the elderly. Retired and living on a fixed income. Life savings, most likely depleted on healthcare. Ever rising cost of living. You really should cut them a break, as someday, you may be in their worn out shoes. 30.4% are credits for children and the working poor. Do you believe that the poor should not be allowed to claim their children? Maybe, you believe they should not have children if they cannot afford them, like the filthy rich (whom also claim their children.) Suppose we should just spade and neuter the poor to save the rich a dollar or two. 6.0% are exclusions for cash transfers. I'm sure the poor are not claiming this one, 5.6 are education credits The poor and the rich claim this one. 5.1% are ATL and tax exempt interest Not the poor. 5.0% are itemized deductions For those who can afford the best tax attorney. 2.5% are other credits Not the working poor. 1.3% are capital gains and dividends rates I'll let you guess who is in this group. You imply it by using it to assert your point that 50% of Americans are simply deadbeats living off of the hard working Americans who patriotically march off to work each day. The fact is, 44% are retired elderly who had done more than their fair share. Many are those who fought in WW1, WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. Many of those came home and manned the line in the factories that made our nation great. Worked the railroads, drove the trucks and worked the family farm. Those who cast them as deadbeats should be ashamed of themselves. 30.4 are the working poor with children. These people do the jobs that no one else wants. They are not sitting at home drinking the day away. They work hard hours for little pay. Give them a break, their lives are hard enough. The rest are mostly those who can afford the tax attorney that can work magic with numbers. The well to do. They should be ashamed of themselves. We have a vast group of morons who expect everthing for nothing... if they make money they want to keep it all for themselves.. basically a bunch of selfish spoiled little brats. So, like the 50% that pay no income taxes and get something for nothing? Oh, the standard 50% deadbeat drone, drone, drone... You would do well to know the facts of who the actual 46% are. 44% are the elderly. 30.4% are credits for children and the working poor. 6.0% are exclusions for cash transfers. 5.6 are education credits 5.1% are ATL and tax exempt interest 5.0% are itemized deductions 2.5% are other credits 1.3% are capital gains and dividends rates To hear you say it, some are living the good life on the backs of the poor filthy rich. It is insane that a company that makes such a huge amount of money pays less (24.4%, if this figure is correct) , percentage wise, than a person making $34,500 at 25%. Apple could easily pay a higher percent without harm to their company. It does amount to corporate greed in it's worst form. 4.5 billion in 2010, according to their financial statement. Correct me if I'm wrong. By my figure, they paid 5.9% on $65.2B? Apple Inc.'s Annual Revenues Apple Inc. had revenues for the full year 2010 of $65.2B. This was 78.5% above the prior year's results. http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/earnings/earnings.asp?ticker=AAPL:US They're allowed deductions for certain items just as individual taxpayers are, so your percentage would be incorrect, as I understand it. I'm pretty sure that the earnings before taxes (profits minus sales cost and other allowed deductions) are what the tax is based on. Apple's earnings before taxes was 18.54 billion, with taxes paid of 4.527 billion working out to a rate of 24.4%. Thanks. I didn't consider the deductions, But, 24.4% is still a pretty good deal in terms of tax paid. You got to admit that. I can't imagine anyone turning down that kind of rate.
