"Old Neil" (as Alabama folks refer to him) might as well have been writing about the Norjack jump. Into the black indeed. 377 Indeed, Old Neil might as well been writing about the jump. Looking at your profile, I see you are an aviation buff. Do you know of any maps that show the last leg of Cooper's flight? I wonder how close to Pyramid Lake the flight came before landing in Reno. The description from Schaffner that DB was very calm and courteous suggest that he was a man that was use to controlling a tense situation and able to use it to his advantageous. IMO an amateur would had been far more threatening and not so in control as this man was. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
-
I believe we discussed this in private emails some years back. The route changed, due to fuel needs. I believe that DB's plan changed as well, as he would not be going over a predetermined spot. I cannot even imagined that an experienced or inexperienced person would jump into a storm at night not knowing what was below. I can imagine a person waiting for visibility below them to jump. Is there a way to know what the weather conditions were on the route near Pyramid Lake on the night of the jump? It is as clear as day you do not have the "facts" of the case. You are making this up as you go along speculating. "I cannot even imagined .... I can imagine ... Is there a way to know what the weather conditions were on the route near Pyramid." Can you imagine Russia from your back porch ? Its a hobby isnt it. Pyramid Lake is almost as far NORTH of Seattle as Portland is SOUTH ? What Pyramid Lake are you talking about"? - - - - - - No reply. Guess Jo and Free The Fly are recalculating? Facts? Where did I state that? Pyramid Lake, Nevada. I've never been able to come up with a map showing the actual flight path. The Pyramid Lake area is an assumption. Edit to fix links: http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KRNO/1971/11/24/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA The area: http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=SEA&daddr=Reno%2C+NV Pyramid Lake is above Reno. Looking at the area on Google Earth, still extremely dangerous, but I can it to be more survivable than the area that is believed. Maybe from this? http://newsok.com/oklahoma-city-woman-who-claims-uncle-was-infamous-skyjacker-says-she-passed-fbi-polygraph-test/article/3591817?custom_click=headlines_widget As we know, she is releasing a book of her memories concerning the event. What could she possibly have to fill a book? Some vague, suppressed memory from when she was eight years old? A conversation that she had with her father, in 1995, that she only now remembered? Memories that are, only now, surfacing? If it were my uncle, I don't think I could had suppressed anything like a hijacking. That is not at all accurate. There was not a match on one DNA profile - they are testing others. Trust me the FBI is still investigating LD Cooper as all the other known suspects have been ruled out. True. As the FBI has stated, the DNA on the tie and clip may not even belong to D.B. Cooper, as they may have been bought second hand. If so, then how can Weber be ruled out? Fingerprint? Possible. Seems inconclusive. As for LD his prints would be on file with the U.S. Navy. Why are they looking for prints elsewhere? Should be an easy task to compare with those already on file. However, the time frame that Marla refers to seems to be impossible. From when DB left the plane to when LD arrived at the house 200 miles away. I can't see how two people with no experience in extraction could have found each other in that forest at night during a storm and then be at that house not long after. Even the most experienced would have an extremely difficult time locating each other during a time when GPS was not available. If the jump did occur at 8:13, over Ariel, WA, he would had been on the ground roughly ten minutes after in an extremely dense area. I find it hard to believe that a spot could had been dead on the money. It is possible that they could had got lucky and found each other in short time and made it back to Sisters, OR by morning. Highly improbable, but shouldn't be ruled out. Yet, if they were able to locate each other in the forest, getting out of there on twisting, muddy, and rutted logging roads would had taken hours to do during a storm, especially in the dark. That alone would make them being in Sisters, OR the next morning highly improbable. My money is still on Weber. Although, I still believe that the jump occurred closer to Reno than the area believed to be the spot. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." It has just been announced that L.D. Cooper's DNA is not a match. He has been ruled out. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

Blowers or turbos are great on the drag strip or long haul freeway run, but for merely haul a boat or trailer, bad idea. Good power if you don't mind a drop in fuel economy, or over heating you r engine in traffic. Blowers have poor water flow at low rpm's. Turbos run hot, due to the recirculation of exhaust gases. These are the reasons they never made it into your everyday daily driver vehicle. Back around 76, I got my hands on a 3-71 that I wanted to put on my 327 68 Camaro. My dad filled me in on why that was a bad idea for the street. He didn't even run a blower on the 350 dragster he raced (see pic. That's me on the left at age 10.) A RV cam and normal aspiration is all the power you'll need. That's if you choose a truck with a carburetor. If you go for a vehicle with F.I., a chip will answer your prayers. Whoops - When some clergy don't toe the line ....

The most sensible thing I've ever heard, coming from a preacher. And again, it's pretty much taken straight from Joseph Campbell. If you don't want to get all that invested in reading all of his works, Netflix has the mini-series of interviews Bill Moyer did with him shortly before Campbell's death. Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth. Six hours well spent. I read 'The Hero with a Thousand Faces' as well as had several Campbell posters on my wall, as a teenager, in the 70's. He was extremely popular with the Hippies. The Hero with a Thousand Faces was given to me by one of the neighborhood Hippies. Good stuff to read. Violence in moderation? Does that mean stabbing just one person a day? I limit my stabbings to just three per day. Anything more is just overkill. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

Probably for the same reason that some seek Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, or Leprechauns. They believe there is a prize at the bottom of the box. You'll have much better luck with Lucky Charms or Cracker Jacks. Oh, so you admit that evolution is real? I was under the impression that creationist rebuke the process. John Scopes could had used a guy like you, so many years ago. Are you a theistic evolutionist? No more and no less than a belief in god has. Much like religion has? Does not the term 'Intelligent Design' imply that it is science? http://www.intelligentdesign.org/ Atheist tend to search for cause, while the I.D. group contributes the unknown to a god. Yeap, that's pretty much how it works around here - Often, not EVEN the 1st post - but it doesn't stop folks flapping their jaws and tapping their fingers!! Not reading what you posted. http://www.eric.ed.gov/PDFS/ED447099.pdf i suspect that this will be your counter: http://creation.com/whos-really-pushing-bad-science-rebuttal-to-lawrence-s-lerner and this: http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/ee/what-is-science Furthermore 'Historical science is associated with 'Intelligent Design.' I will also say, if it cannot be tested, it is not science. Operational science as defined at Answers in Genesis: Operational (Observational) Science: a systematic approach to understanding that uses observable, testable, repeatable, and falsifiable experimentation to understand how nature commonly behaves. Operational science is the type of science that allows us to understand how DNA codes for proteins in cells. It is the type of science that has allowed us to cure and treat diseases, put a man on the moon, build satellites and telescopes, and make products that are useful to humans. Biblical creationists believe that God has created a universe that uses a set of natural laws that operate consistently in the universe. Understanding how those laws operate is the basis for scientific thinking. Some events defy natural laws. Christians refer to these things as miracles, but naturalistic science must find a way to explain these occurrences naturally. This approach rejects miracles in the Bible because they cannot be explained using natural laws. Such scientists occasionally try to explain the miracles in the Bible as natural phenomena, but this ultimately undermines the authority of God and His Word. Remove the notion of a god and I can more understand than not. God is not science or even theory, as god cannot be tested, god must therefore be left out of the equation. A term made up by creationist and used only by creationist. Same with 'historical science. You're funny. You should steer clear of Answers in Genesis. Clouds ones mind. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

Proposed Law Would Allow Motorcyclists To Run Some Red Lights

I believe what Kallend is advocating is roundabouts. Then he should have said so. All he actually said was that street lights should be eliminated. If he had meant that intersections should be redesigned at the same time, he should have said so. Because if you do the former without the latter, you have chaos. Don't forget that Americans suck ass when it comes to negotiating a roundabout. Depends on where you grew up. There are a few of them in St. Louis North County. The neighborhood I lived in, back in the 70s was off of Halls Ferry Rd. The traffic would be near stand still, until you got to the Halls Ferry Circle. Then it just flowed. They're a cakewalk. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=the+halls+ferry+circle+st.+louis&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=np&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x87df4be911856c95:0x5d9c7a563df8725a,Halls+Ferry+Cir,+St+Louis,+MO&gl=us&ei=Raw6TqeJK5SWtwf78bToAg&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBUQ8gEwAA You're in and out in no time. Building more. Article says the first was built in 2002. Not so. North County has had circles since NorCo roads were first built to connect to North City. http://www.modot.org/stlouis/links/roundaboutsinstlouis.htm "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Proposed Law Would Allow Motorcyclists To Run Some Red Lights
freethefly replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
My scoot showed 108F yesterday afternoon while I was out in it. Then again, I wasn't really out on it yesterday afternoon, I was evacuating an apartment complex that was on fire. Even kicked in a couple of doors to get pets out. Although one of the dogs bit me. Anyways, yeah, I'm going through at least 2 gallons of water a day and am still coming home with a fever and shakes. This is my third summer on a bike, but this is by far the worst one so far. This is the hottest that it's been around here, that I can remember. I went riding yesterday when it hit 103. Like riding in a blast oven. It's the same today. The roads have tar bubbling up on them. It's miserable. I lived and worked in Texas on the old Southern Pacific RR, from Dallas to El Paso, for several years and don't recall this kind of heat. Take it easy out there, Bro, be careful in this heat. The version that had been proposed in Texas would make it a defense to prosecution, not an affirmative defense. The difference is that an affirmative defense means you don't get a ticket. A defense means you get a ticket and you have to show you had an exception allowed by the law in court (which can be a bench trial for a traffic offense in Texas). I haven't had a chance to see a legal update from the last legislative session, so I'm not sure if that law passed or not. That's ok, we have some time until the newly passed laws go into effect. Thanks for clearing up my understanding on this. I know a few guys who have been ticketed, shortly after the law went into affect. They beat it. I think cops are getting use to it. No cops knows the frustration of sitting in the heat for way to long at a red light like a motor-cop. By the way, how's that Tejas sun doing ya? Feeling like roasted pork? You are allowed to do so in my State, Missouri. Went into effect last August. http://statutes.laws.com/missouri/t19/c304/304_285 A lot of guys on motorcycles and bicycles have been doing it for years (I have.) It's not a free pass to run red lights, but a defense if ticketed for going through a red light after sitting for several minutes. Edited to omit "Your thread title ia misleading." Sorry John, I didn't notice the disclaimer at the bottom of your post. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young -
He also discusses this theory: Distant Starlight Somehow I knew that you would counter with that hogwash. It explains absolutely nothing and constantly refers back to scripture. His convention is not testable, therefore, it is junk. What is known is the light we enjoy comes from a star that is roughly 93 million miles from us. That is testable, as is light from the furthest galaxy. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

No....but you attacked his. Because YOU brought it up in an appeal to authority fallacy. You can't address his issues, therefore, you attack the person. I believe he is addressing the issue. Any person who claims: (From Answers in Genesis) Since Adam was created on the sixth day of the creation week, we can conclude that the earth, the entire universe, and everything in it were created approximately 6,000 years ago. Cannot be creditable. Lisle's claim does not account for light (nor anything else) that has traveled billions of years across the universe from the most distant galaxy. Unless, of course, you want to claim that the light merely took a wrong turn and got lost until it swallowed it's pride and asked for directions from God.
