Good news for, TMZ, Comedy Central, John, Steve and President Obama. Bad News for the Country, if he is really going to try and run. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Yeah, that is what happened, the Police started it! Way to miss the mark! But once again you started a discussion!, True your post was 100% BS, but you started a discussion, kudos. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Well, we could if we got rid of waste in the DOD. The cuts to personnel are tiny in $, compared to waste and pet projects. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

You won't go wrong with the larger Manta. Since the price is lower than other canopies when your done with it, it could be sold to a DZ after wards for a Student Rigs use with little loss in value. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

His reply: Doesn't get any more 'horses mouth' than that! Spelled out as Recurrency, in writing. Jim has acknowledged that when I asked him for clarification too. Wing Suit Coaching is not the same as FJC Coaching, yes, there are some safety similarities, but it is still working with licensed, current jumpers moving to a discipline, much like VRW or RW. There are "Coaches" for that, they do not all have USPA Coach Ratings, they do not need them, they also do not try to count them. (Honestly most probably don't ask too, the local S&TA just signs off) Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Yea simple if you lie threw your teeth. If you answer anything but no on any question there will be hoops to jump threw trust me. The best part is the FAA gives a rats ass that you do or dont have a class three too do tandems. Its the manufacturers that want it. That information came straight from the late Ted Strong. That kind of depends on the local FSDO, some will say no the FAA doesn't require one, but the FAA does require you follow the Course Director (USPA) or the Manufacturer Rules. That language needs to be cleaned up and clarified. If you can't get a Physical, you can't get a rating, then the FAA can get involved. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. problem with unsigned jumps in logbook when going for ratings?
matthewcline replied to 5.samadhi's topic in Instructors
# 1000 (etc) for those wings sure. But the Local S&TA should be able to acknowledge your accomplishments and sign where appropriate, it is part of their duties and they agreed to it. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
problem with unsigned jumps in logbook when going for ratings?
matthewcline replied to 5.samadhi's topic in Instructors
Signatures are not required for jumps not being applied to specified needs. If you are doing an accuracy jump for a license (or RW etc), you need a signature to verify. But if you're jumping in a 4 way and it is a zoo, the jump counts for the number and needs no signature. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
Again, look at the ISP and the SIM, the answer to your repeated question is there, since you wont listen to S&TA's or I/E's. You can even look at the 4 page A License card. The Letter "C" is a USPA Coach. Matt S&TA, C-E, SL-I/E, T-I/E, AFF-I An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Anybody have experience as an "extra"??
matthewcline replied to taylor.freefall's topic in The Bonfire
Yes, I have done it, but I am an "insider" so it is not how I make my annual income. There are numerous web sites popping up now to find the non-union stuff. Including fb and linkedin etc. Union work is harder (IMO) to get on. Plus there are "lines" to be aware of, never defined clearly, when it comes to the B and A list actors and the extras. Some times those lines are drawn by the actors, some times the agents. Good luck! Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
"and conduct recurrency training and jumps with licensed skydivers." Don't leave out the important part, Recurrency, to make your point. It then makes it subject. The info is there, it is just not the answer you want. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

You're mixing up your "Coaches". A USPA Coach is a FJC Assitant Instructor. Those Duties are outlined in the IRM, the ISP, and SIM. Each level, to include re-currency, says Instructor or Coach inregards to who may conduct the Jump and Instruction. These are USPA titles. For Wing Suit Instruction you are not Teaching a FJC, so your "Coaching" in a follow on discipline, you have a high degree of responsibility, but not near as much as a FJC Instructor/Coach. Your FFC Student KNOWS how to deal with most of the issues they would encounter in SKydiving , minus the wing suit, and has either dealt with issues it or been trained to deal with issues. So again, No, your FFC is not the same, any I/E who signed off on those jumps as counting, should lose their I/E. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Experience of one jump repeated 100 times does define an experienced wingsuit flier. The criteria should revolve around some kind of quantifiable performance metrics. I agree with you, John. Those metrics should be/are part of the proposed evaluation procedures. If one cannot perform to the standard, one doesn't achieve the rating, similar to any other rating program. "Do Wingsuit Coaching jumps count towards maintaining a Wingsuit Coach/Instructor rating?" As there is no Wingsuit Coach/Instructor rating, the answer would be "maybe." You might find an S&TA willing to sign off on WS Coach jumps as counting, but the USPA position doesn't currently define this. If a rating program is implemented, then of course FFC's and WS coaching would apply towards maintaining a coach rating, just as renewing an AFF/I, IAD/I, SL/I, T/I rating include the coach rating renewal. Would you sign off a coach renewal if the jumps were only wingsuit based? A S&TA isn't required, an Instructor or Coach Examiner can also sign it. http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/Form_rating_renewal_2009_07.pdf My point is I don't think it should be a "maybe", I think the IRM should clearly state that the coach jumps need not be pre-A license Belly jumps which is how many interpret it. That would allow wingsuit, freely, canopy coaching all to count towards a Coach renewal. I suppose I need to write a letter to USPA and get myself on a future agenda! Simon What you're dancing around then, is that you feel a USPA Coach rating is all that should be required to provide First Flight Courses, is that correct? You are going to a lot of effort to create a conspiracy again here....the facts are: My USPA Coach Rating expired in Dec 2011 and I need to get it renewed and so far 3 people have said they don't feel that my wingsuit coaching jumps (including FFC) should count and I need to do some belly jumps with non licensed skydivers. I don't agree and honestly I think I might be a danger in that situation...I admit it. Does knowing that make my question any different? I think not. Without a rating I am not a professional and cannot therefore ethically charge a penny for coaching. It also creates other insurance and tax complexities but I don't want to go into that one bit. All I want is to get my coach rating renewed. I can see that as a Coach Examiner you cannot give me an answer so I wrote to my BOD instead. Sorry, I thought you might have been able to shed some light on it. Simon As a Coach Examiner: No, you need to do Coach Jumps for the Coach rating. The FJC Coach is working with None-Licensed Skydivers. Maybe after the Meeting they will change it, but that is the way it is now. The FFC Coach should have to do Wing Suit Instruction for that rating to stay current. Just Like an AFF and Tandem I has to do two different jumps for those ratings. The FAA class 3 (only one I've done) would be easier to pass, no piss testing for drugs if that is what someone is worried about. Any commercial DOT physical will have a piss test for substances to go with it, the flight medical dose not require it. Can you get a DOT medical card without piss testing... yes you can by law, but in order to operate a commercial vehicle you will need to be in a testing program. However, answer the questions, asked, as too some medical problems or legal prescription drug use on the FAA medical and you'll find out your out of luck, however on the DOT medical, answer the same questions, honestly, they don't keep you from doing the a safety function dependent job, so you pass. The only difference in the Class 3 vs DOT is the blood sugar test for diabetes... THAT is it, the only difference between the two, other then the kind of paper work handed in to the DOT. So I understand, the DOT Physical has a piss test for illegal drugs in it? But will allow for a record of conviction if in a current testing program to show being "clean"? Does the holder have to be in a test program to keep the physical? Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

And the seas rose for forty days and forty nights, and ice formed on the oceans, and birds dropped from the skies. And Cooper fell to an icy death in the deep dark forest 15 miles east of the real drop.... Oooops! That is a secret. Forget that! The ice thing is good, use that. Write it down so we don't forget. Everybody OK with that? Really cold! Blizzard conditions. Gotcha! It is important for the exit. Icing at Altitude not only effects the plane but it will effect "Cooper" on his exit. Would the stairs ice up? (leading to a footing issue and thuds making your claim he slipped viable) Will he have numb hands from a freefall? (making it difficult to deploy his parachute, since he did make a bad choice in designs to use) Will he have numbness and pain on his exposed skin? (leading to having a hard time focusing and concentrating on his task) The thin clothing layer of a suit would be of little use in this situation. So any dampness coupled to the icing conditions will lead to hypothermia quickly. We could ask him how it all went, but as he isn't alive, we can't. If you're talking about a "record" of some sort, yes an FAA Class I to III is not going to happen with out hoop jumping. If you're talking about "partying" with no "record", the FAA Physical is simple to get. I have not gotten a DOT Physical, never a need, but I would imagine it to be easier since it seems to be the one pushed for recently. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. USPA consdering proposal re: camera use?
matthewcline replied to Skwrl's topic in Photography and Video
If I was on the BOD I would vote for it to be a BSR for all formats of Photography and videoagraphy. The trends are showing a recommendation is not working. The trends show too many think they are with "madd skillz" and can handle it. I have put a few "madd skillz" holders on stretchers, which negated their argument. Caveat- I have not flown camera actively in 9 years. But have been flown into by many "madd skillz" camera owners in the last nine years. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. Raising Minimum Deployment Altitudes
matthewcline replied to Butters's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
IYO, What would the FAR and BSR conflict look like then? I think one should Educate themselves about the time needed for their canopy to open and plan accordingly, it is far better than regulating each persons particular canopy/weight/density altitude etc. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety.
