That would be fitting! An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Not needed. It got me to go back and re-look some of the 2 web sights. I signed on with the bikers. But since I will already be at a few of the Funerals as a Soldier taking his comrad to his family I will not be on the picket line. I know 2 of the Soldiers he has been to the funerals to disrupt. I get so angry about it I feel I should attack him too. But that would only give him more fuel and even make a few of the posters here say "see told ya so!". But it would kind of be funny (IMO) to watch the national news and see a soldier knocking his lights out. I wonder how many charctor whitness the soldier would be able to call to the stand? He would probably have a few volunteers. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

The post was to ignore an artistcalledian's comments. Fred was and has been an ass for a while, your right. I didn't support his views when he target "fags" and find his new approach even more deplorable. Vets may not be "untouchable" but how about alittle respect since they have given their lives for freedom. The same freedom he is excersising, my opinion he is abusing. He is one of his own worst enemies. His web sights responses to people who have been emotionally hurt by his actions are down right hateful. People he never met he is labeling and condemming. He condems countries and cultures based on a tatered King James Version of the Bible. He upset his home township so much that people won elections on a platform of opposing him. I feel sorry for his children. To be raised so diluted from the truth and so alienated from society has got to be painful when (or if) they get to realize it. He is one of the many Religous zealots who use the lack of seperation from church and state and the Bill of Rights to spout their hatred. I still stand by my conviction he has crossed the line and is purposly incitful to the point of being "criminal". An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

If we "generalize" and "stereotype" that would be true. The bikers from then are not the same as the organizations invovled now. If you use a group with a bad reputation who is, living up to it, then you will get those results. The current groups are not with bad reps since that is not their reason to be in those groups. On another note. I went to the web page. I read a lot of it. I feel they have really twisted the teachings they say they are following. (They have a good spin doctor in their organization.) They are a hate group and admit it. They blame me, your son and any soldier past or present along with all Religuos, Liberal, Conservative or Independant politicians for these "acts of Gods Revenge" (Tsunami, earth quake, IED and any other thing that causes a death of a human being). They claim alot. In My Opinoin! They have gone beyond the protection of Freedom of Speach. They are acting and "preaching" this way in an effert to get a response. They even prefer the violant ones as it helps them stay in the lime light. In My Opinion, they are trying to "incite" responses that will get the responder in trouble, all the while they hide behind the coat of protection provided by the "freedom of speach". PRK of course there is no flap to flip back the whole thing is removed and has to regrow. Of course that will remove the "space" between the lens and the cornea. Which should remove the rinkle and our tear factor during blunt trauma. The military's primary concern. The draw back for me was the down time of PRK. Most seamed to be grounded or placed on "limited duty" much longer than with LASIK. There seamed to be much more pain, recovery medicine needed and time. I also had no desire to go into SOF ( well I had the desire but not the time, I retire in 10 months) nor be a pilot. So to me if you took those two (military)restrictions out LASIK was the best deal for this skydiver who got the proceedure for free. Did that help? An Instructors first concern is student safety. I didn't see the part where the threat of violence was made on the web page. I think they have a good cause at hand and the families deserve the opertunity to greave with out hearing and seeing that kind of hatred directed at their loved one. It would be better if the "legal" means was directed at the root cause. The bikers would not have to feel they need to protect those families and the families would not need the protection, if the idiot who started the protests actually believed what his chosen religion preached. I do not beleive he is "truly" a "Christian". Just some dumb, self centered ass, who is trying to get his family ostrsized by a society that for the most part beleives in its freedoms and understand that some have volunteered to give their lives (if need be) regardless of pilotical belief. Unfortunatly (as sudgested in another thread) the "ignore them and they will go away" idea doesn't seem to have worked since America is having a low tolerance for this sort of behaiver and run out of patience with it. But that is just my take on it. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

What to do when an instructor gives bad/dangerous advice?
matthewcline replied to PhreeZone's topic in Instructors
I do just that if I am around when advise is given. I even help the Instrcutor with how he may word the recant so as not to look bad and lose the students faith in him. Most of the examples can have some pretty heavy "opinion" based replies and situations. But the harder right, is also the safer right. An Instructors first concern is student safety. Yes and if you were not at the direct point of the impact/explosion the burns happened to look like large scalle slag burns from your M-18 on a Demo jump. Yes it is deadly and chances are high that the wound will be fatal. But the marking rounds have a small burting radius compared to the HE. It appears in the video to repeat several (2 or 3) rounds bursting, the nshows what looks like bodies that have been exposedto the elements for some time after death. If the round was targeted at a non-combatant I would agree it is wring. If targeted as a marker and used as such I see no moral or legal issue. If used as a last ditch attempt in defense of a position about to be over run, again I see no moral or legal issues. I think for this thread the video itself is a poor piece of evidence with out knowing its source and how much was edited. But this is all just my opinion. DoD runs the surgical clinic I had my proceedure done at. Ft. Campbell has 1 of 3 (I do believe) PRK/LASIK clinics. SOF and Pilots still have only PRK available, if assigned to a Flight or SOF unit. But things move pretty fast these days and that is subject to change. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Oh yes they will! An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Agreed. I had LASIK and was in the air 21 days later. When I went in the Surgeon knew what I was going to ask about as I had taken the Major on a Tandem a month earlier. Some Surgeons are watching the long term results as LASIK as compared to PRK. The theory is the "flap" will "shrink" to the conea over a period of time (different duration for different patients) amking the end result the same except for the scar around the edge. Best damn decision I made though. I shoot, read, drive, skydive and dive in other manners far much better now! An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

I think it is possible for a tie, with all three teams mentioned so far. All 4 (Golden Knights too!) of the top teams from this last two years have beaten each other in different rounds and/or different meets. Each Team came up with a plan and all had hoped to peak at the Nationals. I think Fire and the Knights peaked as planned and Airpeed was a month behind (maybe the 8-way training was a factor, but only they can say). Now I would still love to see the head to head! It would be fast and furious! But lets do it with live judging in front of a crowd of oh... 500+ screaming RW fans counting along with the Judges! (Can you see the bias come out in the posts?) Is this the only organized U.S. league? I thought there was one in Europe (saw a story on the NSL pages I believe) but was more interested in the U.S. leagues. Have there been leagues for a while and they are just now getting recognition in the Skydiving community? An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

To add to Bowen's comment. The "throttle" operator can increas the RPM to increase the speed of the air (not getting into depth with all the physics of it). Higher speed for faster fall rates etc. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

T-10 (ask an old person what this is)
matthewcline replied to skyjump11's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
800' AGL to 1000' AGL max. We haven't used a "Red Ball" in a few years for rucks, but the Harness single point is an easy piece of equipment to learn, it is based on a 3 ring any way. Oh the M-60 is a bit our of date too. Although I did like mine over the M-240b for a while. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
I didn't get to the boogies this fall do to work. Last Winter though our team was at Eloy and Craig and Kirk (well all of the SDAZ staff really) made the trip very fun and productive. 2 of the team hit mile stone jumps (500 and 1000) on the same skydive. Craig and Kirk organized it and Kirk jumped it. The ymade the 2 fellows so at ease they did far better than they thought they could. The atmosphere is such that I would like to be employed there in the future to learn from and have as much fun as they do. An Instructors first concern is student safety. I too thought this was common knowledge. But recently got a few suprised looks when re-certing a few folks who happened to be out of the counrtry for a year. Some had been thaught to grab all 4 risers, some had been taught to grab the rears, and still others taught noting at all. Expose the nose and all else will be taken care off. It has worked for me a few times and I am sure many others many more times. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Teaching with an expired rating
matthewcline replied to mikew02's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If he wants to claim to be an AFF-I he needs to be a current AFF-I. IMO he is neither if his AFF-I rating is expired. Now if he was in the US and was no longer a USPA member, teaching and not claiming to be an AFF-I it is legal to do so. In your neck of the world is there National rules to consider? I don't think a bare handed check could adequatly measure the strenth of the "steel swaged ball". Maybe he is confusing checking that the cable is freely moving and intact from the handle to the pin. You know the old school JM skill of holding the cable at the pin with one hand and pullling gently on the "steel swaged ball" with the other. During the old school gear check that I rarely ever see any more. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
