In addition to the comments already made, some people bought the smaller reserves so thier container would look cool. I chose my reserve based on my weight at exit and the fact I wanted it to open, at my wing loading, at the highest DZ in the US (Colorado) even though I don't ever get there to jump, one day I might and that will be the day I have a terminal openning and I didn't want it to blow up. The Raven 1 (181 square feet) is able to open at my weight at 5000 MSL while at terminal velocity. I think a lot of people forget the worst case scenario when buying and go with cool factor first. Talk with your instructor and several canopy makers then make a conservative purchase. It is, after all, the last shot you have when you use it. An Instructors first concern is student safety. It was anounced prior to the Operations in Iraq that our forces in Korea would reduce strength. The decision to send them to Iraq in route back to the US, hmm, I don't htink I would totally agree on "desperation" but it is a tough call. The same was being done with the US' European forces. Most of the public doesn't know these things since at the time, 12 to 18 months before Iraq, it had no relavence. And of course there are tons of "what if" papers in the DOD that never got looked at do to the "rush" to get the Iraq Operation moving (the politicians, not the soldiers ruch). GEN. Tommy Franks book has a pretty good amount of insight leading to the Iraq Operation. It should be part of a group of books to read for all of us who want to discuss this situation. I think it (along with many other books) is required reading for the West Pointers and Officer Candidate Scool attendies. An Instructors first concern is student safety. I have told any one who asked to buy condoms. I had mine done a while back and if it wasn't a permanent thing I would never do it again. For 2 weeks I had 2 purple grape fruit and an egg plant in my shorts! It was pain full just to walk! The Doctor ( I think his name was Frankenstien) said that men have no less than 2 nocturnal erection in thier sleep. During that 2 week period I could tell you to the second that happened to me, I would wake up in such pain. Now that it is all over though the up side is not having to worry about a pregnancy and I can plan all my earnings for my Daughters colledge and car and clothes and food and and and... While on my CBR 600 F4i I wave at all riders. But I do get a chuckle out of the "ride american" crowd too. Having owned 12 motorcycles in my 37 years (21 Riding) I find I keep migrating back to the bikes and people who ride for fun of ridings sake and not for the "status" of it. I can see trailering your ride from the north down to a warm area but not all the way to Daytona! An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Ah the draft. That is a wjole different thread. But as a 19 year veteran and mutliple trips over seas I do not see having people who do not want to be there (there being in the military) being the best answer. Train, equip, pay and support the troops we have. You will find we can do any mission set before us if the politicians will listen to us and support us. Happy Thanksgiving all! I give Special Thanks to my brothers and sisters over seas right now! An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Hell I hit the Run way on El Torrios with twists so bad I didn't even try to get them out. I remember exiting looking up and then down, shit wrong end of the run way! After realizing it was gonna suck humping the hostile way to the aasembly area I looked up again, damn twists! Oh! Cool lights!, shit tracers, oh well I am low enough it wont oooommph... ouch, crawl! get of the run way and out of the open! Then I can breath. It happened that fast almost as long as it takes to read the paragraph. I hit hard enough that my M-16 charged itself from my 20 round jump mag! Oh, good times,,,, good times. I joke with the other Instructors here that they may have 200 or 300 SL jumps to my 150 SL jumps but they have only practice, I did one for real. An Instructors first concern is student safety. Hey it was Square, Stable and Steerable (with a little effort). I have had a simular thing and took the same actions. I did have to do 2 PLF's though. It cuased me to rethink how I stow the excess brake line and that was it. I was on the next load. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

The Marines on the ground stated it was used for marking prior to the "fire for Effect" call. Again IMO the LTC who was quoted is a PAO/PR apokesman not "Arty" and mispoke. It did have the effect he quoted, but it was primarily a marker. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Max, Although I commend you for speaking freely on behalf of your beliefs, please be careful on how you represent the climate of your command. The recent classes you and I have taken do address this specifically. Continue to debate freely with a bit of a wary eye to your next task. An Instructors first concern is student safety. I know you asked another but I have jumps on both 245 models you asked about. The ST 245 has (had) a bigger nose opening with a faily medium sized slider. The larger nose opening made for a real fast inflation over the SC 245. There is (was) also diffences in the line set lengths. In speaking to Red a while back, the SC was more of a all around canopy for reserve, main (student and experinced), and occasional CRW canopy. The ST 245 was built for the Demo side of things so it was set up for those steep, deep brake aproaches. Red figured out that the SC could do that too though, and although he still has the template I don't think He sells to many of the ST 245's as compared to the SC 245's. I know you asked ripcord4 but I can answer your question. Strong Enterpises sells and MC-4 and CPS (Complete Patachute Solutions) sells military systems too. Just google 'em and your in business. Plus I think one is for sale in the clasifieds. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

The canopy is a favorite main and or reserve among several demo teams and individual demo jumprs. The canopy is also used by several DZ's for their student programs. Wing loading should be based on experience and the canopy will work fine even in higher loadings, although you would have to weigh a bit to get it over 1 to 1. If you have any real concernes dend it to JJ or Red at FCI (Flight Conepts International) and have them check it out. I have 18 rigs at my disposal and they all have a FCI canopies in them. Some rigs have main and reserves from FCI some have a combo of PD or FCI, they both make good stuff. The different set ups are for different jump scenarious. Why does thesenate and house waste its time on these things? We have enough fluff there is far more important business forthem to work on. I like the Boss, but damn lets fix the broke shit first! Fastrax is supposedly working on compiling all the RW 4 way articles John wrote into a book format. Or maybe it was a web page down load, any way it should be pretty good, John said it was going include his how to turn block articles and how form a team, team building and other RW related writings. Full House to vote on Troop withdrawal resolution - TONIGHT
matthewcline replied to panzwami's topic in Speakers Corner
On NBC news tonight they showed there was some pretty heated exchanges on the hill. Last week the Pentagon briefed both parties on it's planned troop reduction and then with draw(quoted from the news story). If both parties happened to be in on the briefing then why the resolution this week? Is it as I feel, all political grandstanding with party control ratios in the House and Senate the real goal? An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
"The book of Jon. A. H." It is a fiction that has nothing to do with Skydiving. But was a good read in my opinion. Go to the NSL page click on the profiles and e-mail John for details on where to find it. I got mine directly from the author. There is another book about the Army Team and afiliated teams, "Skydiving with their pants on Fire" (i think that is the right title). The pun is obvious to all who have done or seen a demo with smoke. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

I have been on one with 50 freefallers. Those numbers are based on military missions. The "Boo" can make its money pretty well if it loads 35/40 up each lift. Using the seats and belts directly on the floor attached to the cargo attachemnt points. It is a good Tandem Platform and RW platform. Of course vRW is good in any thing. It can be used for medium way jumps with out having to get formation flights coordinated. Some of the civilian owned ones for various vet groups have very nice floors (read slick!) watch your step near the ramp (there really isn't a ramp per say), I nearly slid out of one last year on a demo when the pilot decided to do an aggresive climb after the WDI's got tossed, that would have been a true wind dummy pass!
