I don't have a link at the moment, but during breakfast this morning I heard a story on the news about a law enforcement official in Texas facing 10 years in prison. He got in trouble for shooting an illegal immigrant in a van that was being used to run him down. The facts that I have so far: - Officer pulls over a vans - Van is used as a weapon as driver tries to run over the officer while he is on foot - Officer fires at the van(supposedly aiming at the tires) - One of the passengers is shot(non-life threatening injuries) - Federal prosecutor gives amnesty to the "victims" and officer is tried for violating the civil rights of the illegal immigrants - Illegal immigrants were also found to be smuggling drugs across the border and still recieve amnesty The officer was punished under a statute that is in place to protect the rights of illegal immigrants, it is geared towards protecting them against dirty federal agents that would do something like lock them in the back of a van for an extended period while they are transported back across the border. The statute is great IMO, yeah they're illegals, but they do have a right against cruel and unusual punishment. this scenario however shows the statute being twisted. I heard a phone interview with the officers superior and he is saying that these charges are pure BS. the statute is in no way intended to punish a man who was defending his life. Obviously more details are going to come out soon but just looking at the facts that are being made public so far, this is a crock of shit. And to make it even worse, men that were detained for illegaly crossing the border with drugs are being given amnesty.
