Scott Rhodes is the 2006 Leonardo da Vinci Diploma Awardee
GQ_jumper replied to TalbertGK4's topic in Relative Work
Yes, Scott is the only six-time world champion eight-way jumper on the planet. Quote 2 Awesome accomplishments, congrats -
It wasn't a four year winning streak. He lost to Randy the first time. (was that fight really four years ago? I may have been, I don't remember, but It seems closer than that.) Quote I just double checked and yes it was a four year streak with seven wins in that time. As it sits right now he is 20-4 in MMA, and just to throw another interesting little piece of trivia in there, he's 20-2 in kickboxing(prior to his MMA debut), a total record of 40-6, not too shabby!! I think I'm sitting at 5-0 this month 3 submissions against a former all Army wrestler and 2 against a former regional Greco Roman champ from northern Iraq. Not too bad ehh History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

As a Chamo you gotta be willing to push the fight. Backing away and landing a few punches just wasn't gonna cut it. Quote in chuck's defense that's the strategy that's been working for him. he drops his left hand and waits for someone to come at him looking for the easy right hook to the jaw(his second fight with Sobral is the perfect examply), when his opponent rushes in for the punch he backs up to keep them moving forward swinging which opens them up and if you watch he'll wait for the perfect moment plant his foot and swing that overhand right, the same one he got Tito, Randy, Sobral, etc. etc. with. Quinton new exactly what Chuck would do, so he planted his feet in the middle of the ring and waited for Chuck, at that point it was up to who was going to have the more well placed/timed punch. Chuck doesn't push the pace, he lets his opponents set their own pace and he adjusts, calculates, and capitalizes on their movements. I think Rampage may very well be one of the only men in the sport that can take advantage of Chucks low left hand. There is a reason you see boxers(righthanded ones) keeping their left hand next to their chin, it blocks their knockout zone. If you everget a chance throw on some boxing gloves with a friend and put that left hand up to your jaw and have your buddy take some right hooks at you. they can't get to the jaw, and for the head all you have to do is bring it up a bit while you drop your head about four inches. your hand covers you completely along with your forearm, but anytime you swing you open it up which is why most knockouts happen in the middle of an exchange while the hand is outstretched for a punch. Chuck keeps his left hand low to distract opponents and is the master of a quick counter punch to set up for the overhand right. He just needs a small strategy change. As for a quick rematch, it seems that Dan Henderson is next in the chute for Jackson, but i don't see Chuck too far behind. He did express interest in fighting Shogun so maybe we'll see those two go at it for the #1 contender position. i still think Chuck is the man though! A four year winning streak ain't all that bad and his knockout resume in that time was pretty damn impressive. i just hated Jackson because he talked on his damn phone while the national anthem was playing before his last fight with Wanderlei, but at the same time he spoke highly of Chuck and had a professional respect for him, and he's a family man, so I guess he ain't all that bad see now I'm all amped up to go scrap!! I was supposed to have a submission fighting tournament the other day but injured my back in the train-up Oh well, I got to kick someone in the head today so I feel a little better History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. My heart dropped when I saw Rampage plant his feet in the middle of the ring and tell Chuck to come fight him. Chuck let Rampage lead the fight, Jackson wasn't going to play into his game like everyone else did and I knew it wasn't going to end well. This fuckin sucks, all the people I wanted to win didn't. UI have a feeling this is going to be as good a fight as as fight can get... Quote Yeah but how good can a fight be when it's not even going to last a minute History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

If I post anything as awlays I will put a dsiclaimer usually something like "if you havent seen the fight do not read beyond this point" But the in big bold letters I type the secret; ICEMAN WINSQuote Actually I just found out that AFN is going to be playing it live, that's fucking awesome!!! The UFC has always been big on supporting the troops so this doesn't suprise me that they are letting us see it live for free over here. So it looks like I'll be waking up at 430 tomorrow to watch it History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

I thought that the article noted that they already have done 100 jumps together before the meetlast week. Did it say that they were notgoing to Malevsky?? Quote According to the article they won't be going to Stupino, however there is going to be a World Cup in Russia I believe shortly after, maybe we'll get to see them there instead, it would be cool. The last 3 or 4 UFC events have had major upsets. I never thought that Cro-cop, GSP, Sylvia, or Hughes would lose their fights...but they did. Quote With the exception of Sylvia and Hughes there is absolutely no connection between any of those fighters though. Matt and Tim are in the same camp(Militech) all the others come from elsewhere so the string of upsets means absolutely nothing. Usually when there is a string of upsets from the same camp it shows that they were trying something new and it didn't work out. Chuck's head trainer hasn't changed anything to Chuck's training camp's, the only difference is that this has been the longest to date and he has yet to sustain a pre-fight injury as most fighters(Chuck included) almost always do. Rarely if ever does a fighter go into a fight 100% healthy and thsi is the first time that Chuck hasn't had so much as a sprain or pulled muscle in a camp. At 8 weeks out Chuck was in better shape than he usually was just prior to a fight, I've seen the pics, he's looking MEAN, and is constantly getting better and more mature as a fighter. I don't think Rampage can stop him, sure Jackson is a tough guy, but it takes finesse to stop Chuck, Randy had it in their first fight, Randy has always won his fights with style. When Jackson beat Chuck it wasn't the same Chuck we all know, just watch the video, he was hiding an injury from his trainer so he wouldn't have to pull out of the fight as any true warrior would do. When Jackson beat him he went out there brawlin and got lucky, it's not the same this time, not to mention Jackson's less than impressive recent resume. Either way it's going to be a great fight, unfortunately I have to wait a couple extra days to see it. The NSL website just posted a story that there has been a slight roster change for the Knights. Eric Heinsheimer(Heins3x, on here) is going to undergo neck surgery and for the time being the Knights IC Matt Davidson has stepped back to the tail slot while Hoover is taking the IC slot. Unfortunately this is going to take them out of the mix for the Malevsky meet, I was personally really looking forward to seeing the matchup between the big 3, but I'm sure they'll still put on an awesome show at Nats. I'm guessing there's a few Raeford locals around here who can give a bit more detail so if they could chime in and add to/correct the story for me that would be appreciated, news travels slow overseas. And let's all keep Eric in our thoughts for a speedy recovery. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

I guess I should say My heart is wth Ice man, but I don't know alot about rampage. They are hyping him up like crazy. Quote Rampage hasn't exactly been too impressive lately either, Wanderlei rolled through him twice, and Shogun taught him a new meaning of the word pain, not to mention that it took him two rounds to finish Eastman. Chuck would've finished Marvin in the first round, I'll give Rampage credit, he's a big tough guy and when he has his days he's impressive to watch. But Chuck has his number, it's lights out for Rampage. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

The 2003 war in Iraq - does anybody still fully support it?
GQ_jumper replied to vortexring's topic in Speakers Corner
Afghanistan is also a war of aggression. Quote I(somewhat) understand your reasons for not agreeing with the invasion of Iraq, but fail to see how you call our move into Afghanistan unreasonable. Scott Rhodes is the 2006 Leonardo da Vinci Diploma Awardee
GQ_jumper replied to TalbertGK4's topic in Relative Work
Most people involved with competitive formation skydiving today don't know who Scott Rhodes is or why he is the recipient of one of the FAI's most prestigious awards. To keep it simple Scott was a member of the Golden Knights 8-way team for the better part of 15 years. I don't know exactly how long. He left before I ever made it. The below text describes what an individual must accomplish to be considered for this award. There are other ways to qualify that I did not post that refer to being a judge, or meet director. Scott was awarded the da Vinci Diploma based on his competition success. The attachment shows that Scott exceeded the requirements nearly 10 fold. To quote Charlie Brown at Scott's farewell party, "For the past twelve years (1985-1997) there has been one name synonymous with Championship skydiving; Scott Edison Rhodes." Quote Isn't he the only person to win 6 World meet's as well? Or am I thinking of someone else? History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower -
Ain't it funny that when someone can get a job done, all of the problems are his fault, but when someone can't do the job[ Ray Nagin] it's someone else's fault. Quote Exactly, there was no perfect answer to how to deal with the aftermath of 9-11 but Giuliani seemed to do a better job than anyone ele would have. No disaster of this magnitude is going to come without long-term effect for those involved, so rather than point fingers and find someone to hang for it why not try and find ways to help those still being affected later down the line. US military using Depleted Uranium in Iraq!
GQ_jumper replied to zagijimzoo's topic in Speakers Corner
This one was widely used in both Iraq wars,Quote You are absolutely correct, that is a very common round and the DU rounds for the A-10 are also used very widely, simply because they are the best tool for the job. Would you expect someone to go into an accuracy competition with an old round canopy against modern acc. canopies, no. So why should't the military use the best tool for the job when they are rolling into a country where the majority of the battles are going to be against an armor threat. some modern types of armor can defeat HEAT rounds from tanks so we punch em with DU. It seems like people think we should just roll in with less effective rounds. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower -

In googling SLAP, I've discovered it is a Saboted Light Armor Penetrator round and you can buy one -ONE- for about 50 bucksQuote 50 bucks, i think the military pays around 6 or 7 bucks a pop for em! Those rounds are great for what they were designed for though, punching holes in light armor the projectile is tungsten in a plastic jacket they travel at 4100+ feet per second IIRC. They do a great job of punching holes in brick too. We were putting holes in 3/4 inch steel with em the other day. GQ_jumper replied to zagijimzoo's topic in Speakers Corner
Really?:http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m829a1.htm I'm sorry but was that supposed to prove something. Listing one type of tank round that carries a DU projectile is far from having nothing but DU rounds in our AP inventory. And zgimijizablevvy....or whatever, since when did every bombed out building and the site of every irect fire engagement in the war suddenly become riddled with DU? You're just looking for a reason to bitch about the war in Iraq in general. And those pics that were posted showing the .50 rounds, those aren't DU, they're SLAP rounds. US military using Depleted Uranium in Iraq!
GQ_jumper replied to zagijimzoo's topic in Speakers Corner
I thought depleted uranium was used in all tank shells for destroying other armour Quote Actually there are very few AP(armor piercing) rounds that use DU, the one most commonly talked about is the round for the cannon on the A-10. They crack tanks open like eggs. For everyone so against using the most effective weapon, please provide us with an alternative. maybe you can make a decent amount of money off of your idea. A-10's using DU rounds save countless Coatlition lives during the invasion(one of my best friends admits he owes his existence to A-10's using these rounds effectively), so what does everyone suggest? No, they had plenty of competition, but they have a bunch of employees who are either, A)FAG's(former action guys), who still want to go get in a fight, or B)guys that try and act tough and are really scared shitless so they jump and pull the trigger when it's unnecessary because Mohamed wasn't paying attention(the same way all Arabs don't) while he was driving and wandered too close to the Blackwater convoy. You should see the kind of name Blackwater has made for themselves out here. They have been completely kicked out of the AL Anbar province, they are losing contracts in quick fashion and it's all because of the way they choose to operate. Guess that's what ya get for using former Squeals as your primary recruiting pool You'd think Blackwater would know better after having Charlie Sheen and Demi Moore as the Hollywood ambassadors to the SEALs. I see your point but "war crimes" against innocent civilians, any civilian death is always a tragedy, but unless someone intended to kill them(ie. Haditha) it's not a war crime. Whether the war is legal or not holding the CinC responsible because a guided missile had a software problem and hit the wrong building(just an example), is BS. seems like they are as much as illegal combatants as some on the other side Quote I'm no JAG officer so don't quote me on this but, I believe they are NON-combatants and any action by them in anything other than a force protection measure(defensive) would be illegal. And if for some reason they did cross paths with us and got rolled up I have no doubt that would go from non, to illegal. This is actually not without precedent. When the Army rapidly downsized after the Civil War it had to hire contractors to run wagon trains to garrisons on the frontier because it had to keep what few troops it did have for fighting Indians. Private companies like Wells Fargo armed their employees to protect frontier deliveries because the Army did not have the troops available to provide security. Quote Nice reference It seems that most of the people pointing fingers at contractors for being "mercenaries" are the ones who don't realize that probably about 90%(just a guess) of the contractors in theatre do nothing more than what you said, logistics. The ones that make themselves look like mercenaries are doing it sua sponte and not under order, and as I have said before they are dealt with accordingly. I know what Blackwater is and what they do. Professional mercenaries with the stamp of US Government approval. Blackwater can do what the US Military can't. There are no laws that apply to them and their activities in Iraq. Shrub signed an executive order. NONE of the contractors are subject to any law, Iraqi or US. Quote Do you have any idea what you are talking about? I've dealt with people from just about every major contracting company over here, and yes Blackwater does tend to act like a bunch of reckless cowboys(that's what yyou get for turning to former SEAL's as your primary recruiting pool) they are far from being mercenaries. At no point in Iraq or Afghanistan hasa the Us government ever used any contracting company in any type of offensive operation. This whole idea everyone keeps rambling on about where these guys do the missions that the US doesn't want to take responsibility for is BS. They provide security, escorts, supervise construction projects, assist in local rebuilding efforts, run our chow halls, and provide maintanence services on teh FOBs, to name a few of their duties. Nowhere is there a contractor being paid by the US to snatch people out of their beds in the middle of the night or assasinate people, if they are doing shit like that it is of their own accord and they will answer for their actions, I watch contractors get thrown out of country daily for pulling that kind of crap.
