I thought the Dems were going to stop the war?
GQ_jumper replied to DaVinci's topic in Speakers Corner
Did you know that the "gullible" is not in the dictionary? Check it out. If you believe the AF announcement, then you'll believe what I just wrote... Quote You act like this has never happened before, the powers that be have considered cutting combat pay down in order to create more funds for the war in the past. Not to mention that there have been times where the troops have gone a shortwhile at the beginning of the fiscal year without a paycheck because people on capitol hill wanted to play politics with an overdue budget. I know it's a longshot, but I wouldn't count the idea completely out, not with the way the groups up on capitol hill(both sides) like to use soldiers as bartering tools to get their way. Next time do a little research before you run off at the mouth trying to talk shit. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower -

GQ_jumper replied to DaVinci's topic in Speakers Corner
In case anybody gives a fuck(which I doubt anyone will though), this budget BS is starting to affect the troops. the AF made an announcement recently that if more funding is not provided it will have to redirect funds from the finance system(also known as the system that puts the paychecks into the troops bank accounts so they can feed their families). So everyone can go ahead and bitch and whine about how the other side is trying to stand in the way of progress in Iraq, meanwhile your AF troops are wondering how they are going to put food on the table next month. His name is Cintron. Kermit Cintron. The 5'11" welterweight fighter has 28 fights, 27 knockouts and one loss. He is the IBF Champion. When he heard of Sherk's offer, he jumped on the opportunity... and why not? Cintron was an outstanding high school wrestler who turned down two college scholarships to wrestle. If Dana White can pony up the dough, Cintron will knock Sean Sherk out just as quickly as Sherk tries to shoot. Look what Liddell did to Couture. Quote Thanks, I had already mentioned Cintron I just couldn't remember his name. And if you remember the first Chuck and Randy fight, Chuck couldn't stay on his feet to save his life, Randy took him down at will. Sherk only has two losses on his record to GSP and Matt Hughes. Neither of those are anything to gawk at, those are two of the best fighters in the game in their weight class. Sherk has been training on the ground for years, Cintron may have been a very gifted wrestler at one time but it's going to take a long time to get him to Sherk's level. Who knows though, MMA fights are known for being unpredictable. I still don't feel that boxers have a realistic chance if they are going to rely on their striking skills only, everyone saying "all you have to do is not get taken down and punch them when they try" don't seem to have too much experience when it comes to take-down defense. Unless your last name starts with Lidell, if someone wants to take you down it is going to happen eventually, and even Chuck has seen the canvas close up a few times. Is a resource-poor country at (relative) peace better than an oil-rich country with ongoing sectarian violence?Quote Good question, I think a lot of the issues that certain African countries would be a good example of what would happen if we split the country up into one rich country and two poor ones. and the Iraqis wouldnt' be able to stop fighting long enough to make a good decision, I'm not saying we need to play puppet master and lay their future out for them, but just look at what's going on in Kirkuk right now. both major ethnic groups are trying to force the other out by seeing who can build the most houses and move the most people in. And before you know it this place is going to explode. If the Kurds want Kirkuk so bad, give it to them, but make them stay on as a part of Iraq and pay part of their oil revenue to the rest of the country. They'll have the land to call their own and the Arabs will get resources in return for giving it to them. Personally I'm sick of seeing the Kurds try and tug at the heartstrings of the US cring about what Saddam did to them, it was far too long ago to keep crying. If you've ever been into Kurdistan you'd realize that they have it pretty damn good up there, ever since the UN took serious action to protect them they've been sitting pretty and now they are trying to play us for their personal gain. And keeping Kurdistan as part of the government of iraq as a whole will keep Turkey from rolling across the border and settling their score. the kurds need to pull their heads out of their butt's and accept that they don't stand a chance against turkey. Hey bro, drop a PM to Tdog(Travis), he is the league director out there and there's a chance he may know a few other people trying to do the same thing. He's an awesome guy he'll help ya out. If you can't manage to get ahold of him there's always a handful of AF cadets at the DZ on the weekend willing to throw down on some 4 way, get in touch with them. good luck History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. I suspect we will never "leave" Iraq, as in get out completely. Our egos will not allow it. However, if we do pull back significantly, I see it fragmenting into the above-mentioned Kurdistan, Shia Iraq and Sunni Iraq. Which may not be an altogether bad thing. Why not let them draw their own borders, instead of honoring borders that Europeans laid down a century ago? Quote If that were to happen than economically two of those regions would get screwed. There's is a reason that Kirkuk is becoming such a point of controversy at the moment, if any group wants a fighting chance of making it on their own out here they need to control the oil in the north. But they are a DISTINCT ethnic group... and this is going to break up not only along religious lines but tribal and ethnic lines as well Quote The Kurds are fairly well aligned so long as they have a common enemy(Saddam, Arabs, etc.), however when they aren't fighting a common enemy they have two major factions(political), the KDP, and the PUK. Basically their equivalant of our Dems. and Republicans. I have worked with them both and although they are both pro-US they are both justas under-handed as the other when it comes to getting THEIR way and trying to discredit the other. IMO, the PUK holds the trump card, and that's only because they have the best chinese restraunt I have ever been to in my life in their capitol city no joking I was there last week. I'm out for the night everyone, it's my night off and I'm going to pick up my girl and have a few libations before I have to head back out into the toasty weather tomorrow History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Kurds are Sunni.Quote Not all Kurdsare sunni. Amazon is on the right track, IMO. although I don't believe there would be a Sunnistan and Shiastan. the region known as kurdistan is fully prepared to annex itself at any moment, in their minds they already are independant. at the moment they are waiting for the referendum vote to see who gets control of kirkuk, without, they don't stand a chance. As for down south, the sunni's would never be able to pull together the manpower to create their own region. And if you look at the way they've been acting lately, which is basically like the nerdy kid on the playground who used to be friends with the big bully and always got his way but is now on without the big bully, they won't be going very far. The Sunnis screwed themselves over when the government started forming by not taking part in hopes that everything would suddenly go back to the way it was under Saddam and not the way it is now where the government is representative of all the ethnicities with groups getting a number of representatives that reflects their population. But there should be a time limit. Once on the ground there should be a 90 or 120 second limit then the fighters return to their feet. Quote Actually this does happen, if two fighters go to the ground and the fight stagnates they are brought up to there feet. If they go to the ground and they are both fighting agressively on the ground the fight will go on. It's a good rule but sometimes it screws guys over. You'll see a guy who has no round skill get taken down and just bear hug the other guy and hold on until the ref stands it up so he can get back on his feet sometimes and that pisses me off. It's definitely not easy trying to fight from your back when you are getting punched no matter how good your grappling skills are, but just stalling the fight intentionally in hopes of the ref saving you is a pussy way out. As for Mayweather fighting a UFC guy.. Sure but make it Fair.. First they BOX a couple rounds, Then UFC for a Round. Quote How is that fair? The person who the UFC asked to take on Mayweather is Sean Sherk, who has a background in wrestling. So by forcing him into a boxing match you are in no way allowing him to use his best tools. In an MMA match Mayweather can use his tools as much as he wants, he just has more that he has to defent against. MMA is a more realistic fighting stage than boxing, if Mayweather had said he could "outbox" any UFC fighter and one stepped up to the challenge, than lets see them step inside the ring, but he didn't say that. Mayweather stated that him or any of his fighters could step into the cage and take on any UFC fighter under their rules, yet refuses to back it up, there is one boxer however that accepted the challenge, can't recall his nme off-hand but his is apparently accepting the callenge to fight Sherk, and is one of the top ten fighters in his weight class in the IBF. How do you take a guy down for a submission hold if every time you lunge at him he peppers your face with punches while moving out of range. Eventually, cuts will open, eyes will swell shut and the boxer could be in a position to finish the guy. Quote Do you really think it's that easy? You just "move out of range", smart ground fighters don't just stand back and then shoot in when they're ready, they set up their take down with strikes. You put the guy off his center of balance by striking and then when his weight is back and he can't move quick you GET LOW(which is what prevents you from getting peppered with strikes while you shoot) and close in on your oponents legs. This is where the other person sprawls, when you are sprawled trying to avoid a take down your hips aren't in a position to allow you to put any great amount of power into your strikes. Of course you can still strike but not with any great amount of efficiency. And if the take down fails as the fight stands back up a good grappler with stay with the pther fighter and keep him in the clinch, againa place where a boxer isn't going to fair well. It's going to depend on the skill of both fighters, but just looking at the odds, a boxer is at a serious disadvantage steeping into an MMA fight. You look at the strikers who dominate the MMA circuits, guys like Chuck and Mirko, what is one of the key skills that make them so dominant? Take down defense, the last person to take Chuck to the ground and control him was Randy, a former Olympic alternate. Without his takedown defense Chuck would have lost his title in the first round of his Ortiz rematch, tito brought him down, just couldn't keep him there. It's not just the striking skill that makes these guys stand apart, it's their ability to keep the fight where they want it. And as for Sherk being picked, that is because he is the champ in the weight class where Mayweather fights, Penn is a weight class above him. I'm not knocking boxers as a whole, when I see a well trained boxer bobbin and wevin through a flurry of punches without a single one contacting him and coming around to throw a straight right while his opponents arm is extended it's like watching poetry in motion. Although sometimes I watch boxing matches and its two guys swinging wildly for the fences and wonder what the hell they are doing in the ring. MMA however has completely taken over as the fighting sport of choice, and this isn't just an opinion, TUF is a more poular reality series than the Contender, and UFC has all the records for PPV buys. Just looks at the sports section of all this weeks newspapers, they are flooded with stories of how MMA has surpassed boxing. Boxing's peak was many years ago and it's fanbase is getting tired of paying big money for a PPV with only one fight on the card that goes nowhere for 12 rounds. Let me guess...you're in your young to mid 20's? Quote Ya got me, 25 I do train as a fighter, love to do it, have been doing it most of my life. and as anyone who has met em can tell you I'm really friendly and laid back but when you get me going on something I'm passionate about I get fired up. but one thing that pisses me off like none other is cowardice, I despise cowards. and you can call it "marketing" all you want, but Mayweather is nothing other than a worthless coward. He talks shit and would never have the balls to step out of his little controlled world of boxing, where if you fall down you get a chance to stand back up on your own and you don't have to worry about getting kicked or choked. Not knocking boxers, I couldn't hang in a boxing match, just knocking people that run there mouth and don't follow through. Like the grunt said though, I get the privilige of playing for keeps every once in a while, what better training is there. I'll post some pics of it here shortly, there's some good stuff. take care everyone PS hey Namgrunt I was wondering bout you today, good to hear from ya, tell your lovely wife I said hello History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. It's called marketing. Ali was a pro at it.Quote I prefer the term cowardice. Mayweather should either make a public apology in front of the press or step into the octagon where he would last one round. I'm sure everyone has heard the story about Mayweather, he was trashing fighters in the UFC in a recent press conference saying that the only reason they are in the UFC is because they couldn't make it in boxing. He said that any boxer would crush any MMA fighter in the octagon. UFC President Dana White and the Lightweight champ Sean Sherk decided to call him out. they both showed up at his fight the other day and when Mayweather was approached he was quick to say he was just joking and didn't mean it. White didn't believe the apology and is in the process of drawing up an offer for Mayweather to take on Sherk in the octagon. My guess, Mayweather will continue to run his suck spewing all kinds of worthless threats out of his little cock holster and refuse to back any of it up. Sherk on the other hand is pushing the fight and ready to take Mayweather on at a moments notice. Mayweather also made comments about how UFC fighters are uneducated and lack professionalism, hmm, uneducated huh(Liddell has a buisness degree), and no professionalism(Cotoure was on the Olympic team), this coming from a guy who to the best of my knowledge has no college education, and didn't he recently have some issues with the law? Boxers may be great fighters in their controlled environment where your only threats are your opponents left and right hands, but when they step into the octagon they have nothing. The first couple UFC's proved this over 10 years ago, boxers aren't equipped to fight unless they are in a ring where they can't be kicked, taken down, and submitted. I hope the media puts enough pressure on him to take this fight that he does it to try and save his rep. Boxing is a thing of the past and Sherk is going to prove it. PC Crowd was a first assalt on free speech. What next?
GQ_jumper replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Interesting that when media outlets have a conservative slant, it's freedom of speech in action. But when they have a liberal slant, it's a conspiracy of the lying liberal media, who are no doubt in bed with the democratic party. Quote Where in my post did I ever mention a conspiracy because a media outlet had an opposing viewpoint. There are tons of media outlets I choose not to pay attention to because I don't like the way they present things. I have never once said they were under liberal control. they can say whatever the hell they want and I can turn the channel. Simple as that, why do people need to bitch. What a bunch of crapQuote I agree that a few of the tnagents that story went off on were far-fetched, but at the same time the basis for the story brings up a good point. No conservative power is FORCING these media outlets to show things in a pro-conservative light, it's their own choice. They are exercising their freedom of speech, so who are the liberals to say they can't just because they don't think they are as popular with the media. I highly doubt they woul be pushing this if they were the ones on all of the cited media sources good side. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. I have noticed that fellow men even give out "macho points" for it....Quote Personally I'll give a dirty look and swift boot in the ass to a guy before I give a guy macho points. I have never cheated on someone I was with, but I have been cheated on, I've come home from the field to find another man living in my house, THE HOUSE I PAID FOR. so I know how it feels and I would never put someone through that intentionally. At the same time though, for some reason I am always the guy that girls want to cheat with. More often than not when I go home with a girl I find out later that she was taken, I am that other guy that all men hate. In my younger days I would pursue women regardless, I've grown up quite a bit since then and won't chase any girl I know is taken, with one exception, if their man is an asshole and treats them like shit I won't hesitate for a second to snatch their girl away and take her on a few dates to show her that real men don't treat their women like that. I see tons of great women with loser boyfriends that treat em like shit and they put up with it because they've never had better, and I have no issue showing them that there are bigger men out there.
