The pledge ruled unconstitutional in public schools
GTAVercetti replied to livendive's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, only if you were REQUIRED to say the pledge perhaps. Some schools do that. Mine never did. But even then, can you really say that being forced to sit in the back of a bus, drinking from different fountains, and being treated like a second class citizen is the same as saying a few words which may mean nothing to you? I can't. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -

Guess 'dem niggers better just go back to sitting quietly at the back of the bus. It's only their feelings that'll be hurt afterall. Did you just compare slavery and racism to the Pledge of Allegiance? Not even the same ballpark. Or sport. Oh and the God won part was because that is why the Under god went in in the first place...to show us capitalists as having god on our side...as opposed to those Godless Reds. Yeah, that about sums it up. Public schools are government run. Therefore, no religion. good on you. Re-read the First, that is NOT what the amendment says - and the reason we're having the differences of opinion. I quoted too much then. I was not refering to the first, but the fact that you said (actaully Kallend, actually John Adams) that the Government is not a Christian government. Therefore, a public school and the pledge should not ascribe to one type of faith (a monotheistic one). All we have to do is take it out and more on to the next idiotic argument brought about because PC bullshit from the religious and atheist zealots. The commies are no danger to us anymore. God won. I concur. Even though I argue in this thread, it is because I have time to spare. But to spend so much energy in the real wolrd on what is ultimately not a big deal is just plain silly. There are more important things that need to be done. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -

Just quoting part cause it is long. I actually understand what you are saying...I think. But it is misled in this case. It SEEMS as if the judges are writing a law saying that the Pledge cannot be said in school. However they are not. They are simply making the actions of a PUBLIC school appeal to the Constitutional idea of separation of church and state. Now, if a judge came out and said that "No bikes shall be ridden to school" THAT would be a creation of a law. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -
I think the hebrew word that Thou shalt not kill is translated from means 'kill intentionally'. State sponsored murder is without a doubt intentional. NOTE TO SANGIRO: instead of moderators, can we have Chaplains in this forum? Sorry, its just that it often goes to the Bible so I have to make my comments based on that. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

I think the hebrew word that Thou shalt not kill is translated from means 'kill intentionally'. State sponsored murder is without a doubt intentional. Actually, it translates from the word ratsach which means on one hand "killing by actions which are predatory" and on the other "killing without just cause" Ie. If someone commits a worthy crime, you can kill them for it. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

So the answer to your question is obvious, since the US condones killing in a "legal" fashion then only murder is bad. I never made a question, but that about sums it up anyway. Please note that I am not stating my personal belief, just pointing something interesting from the Bible perspective. Really, i just like arguing the bible. so here is something interesting I have been thinking about and since we are talking about Biblical sanctioning of killing, this seems appropriate. A while back, in another thread, pajarito and I got into a discussion about the Commandment, 'Thou shalt not kill" to which he replied that it was actually 'Thou shalt not murder'. And what is the difference? killing - a action which causes death murder - any ILLEGAL action which causes death. Therefore, killing is allowed, as long as it is LEGAL under your government (parajito also pointed out that Jesus recognized the authority of governments). Therefore, since the death penalty is legal, it is not MURDER and is allowed. I figure you can have it two ways: either the Jesus said that ALL killing was bad or that only murder is bad. If all killing is bad, then the death penalty is wrong. If only murder, then it is okay because the law of our land (at current time) says so. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. __________________________________________________ Taking responsibility ? If Bush is responsible for the suffering and deaths of all those people, how will he make ammends? Seems like he should at least resign. If by my error you suffered some loss, merely claiming myself responsible doesn't make it all *right*. It was obvious he was responsible long before Karl told him to admit it. Now Bush needs to apologize for his incompetence and compensate those who were damaged by his incompetence. He also needs to resign. Blues, Cliff Man, if every president who had death and suffering occur under them resigned, we would never have one. hhmmmmm, but maybe that is your design. You are on a role man. You amuse me. Keep going. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

We? Who is this we? Where is this written, who is our Grand High Poobah, through what organisation do we convene and discuss these beliefs? There is only one criterion for atheism, the conviction that there is no god. That is the meaning of the word and that is all it conveys. Any further goals or life statements you may wish to add are yours, not 'ours'. HEY! Get back in line with the other atheists! WHERE IS YOUR CARD!?!?!? Its funny how what is supposed to be the opposite of religion still has commandents. And people who are just as fantical. I say, believe what you want, question everything, and respect the views of others if that person derserves your respect themself. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. A public restaurant? You mean, a PRIVATE business? or perhaps you were you talking about that government run Friday's on the corner of 5th St. Its a privat business, they can have "god bless" if they want. Sorry you get offended so easily. I view atheists like you in much the same way I view the religious right. Not highly. In anycase, I say take out "under god" from the Pledge. problem solved. From Reason.com: Hard to tell which is scarier, the bloviating windbags on the Senate Judiciary Committee or that John Roberts can sit in front of them for more than five seconds and not throw a chair at the bunch. His supernatural, faintly un-American, calm should be a disqualifying attribute. But since it is not, we are left to parse the wisdom of the likes of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) where we find the Democrats' sing-songy theme: consensus, compromise, mainstream. Feinstein also appointed herself Guardian Protector of half the population. "As the only woman on the Committee, I believe I have an additional role in evaluating nominees for the Supreme Court. This entails representing the views and concerns of American women throughout this process," she said in her opening statement. Oh happy day. -------- bleh Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Certainly that's where to look for bias - in the so-called 'news' reporting. If you are looking for no bias in 'opinion' shows, then you are also smoking something. Fox has opinion shows and talk/discussion shows, lots of them, but that shouldn't feed into whether one thinks the 'news' feeds are biased or not. I think Fox "news" leans right but attempts to stick to the facts and not the spin. I think Fox opinion and talk shows tilt hard right and they admit it up front. I think most other "news" services tilts (unashamedly) left and try to call it news. I mean, even on this board, most people seem to be comparing Hannity and Colmes or O'Reilly with the CBS Evening news. It's not the same yet that's what's used. The left bias is that these people honestly think their 'commentary' qualifies as legitimate parts of news. At least Fox is up front on what is news and what is commentary. Liberals don't Fox like it because the commentary disagrees with them. Conservative don't like CNN because they hide commentary and sell it as news. I tend to watch Fox news alot because my roommate does. And I disagree. The "Normal" news on fox is OFTEN peppered with opinion, leading questions, wild speculation, and other such nonsense. That is not to say that the other 24 hour news orgs don't do it too. But Fox News takes a specific stance to say it is "Fair and Balanced' (and they remind you every 5 minutes...which seems like they are trying to convince themselves

The argument revolves around living in dependency. Liberals believe that we should care for these people no different than if they were in the hospital and we were in charge of their total well being. While this sounds great on moral grounds there are just too many people living in dependency these days to make this possible. SOME liberals think that way. Not all. Some liberals adhere to the original definition. REAL LIBERALS: Like this? 1. A political theory founded on the natural goodness of humans and the autonomy of the individual and favoring civil and political liberties, government by law with the consent of the governed, and protection from arbitrary authority. # An economic theory in favor of laissez-faire, the free market, and the gold standard It is amazing how the term liberal has shifted.
