Well, I bought my gear right off of student status. But that was because I knew the size and type I wanted. So yes, you should wait until you fly a canopy you like and then buy it instead of buying one that you think you will eventually get to. Because you may buy a 120 but decide that you are comfortable at a 135 and then you would be stuck with a 120 you cannot fly. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

Of course you are correct. I neglected to mention the difference. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

>Flock, do you really know what used to stand for?
GTAVercetti replied to TETI's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Actually, you could. A good freeflier should be able to do belly well. That is the point of freeflying: flying in any position, not just feet down or feet up. One of the teams at my DZ does alot of moves where they start out on belly and then transition to vertical or vice versa Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -
I am currently (but not after I get my new container!) and at a wingload of about .9. I found this to be a very good wingloading at which to learn my canopy. Even so, I would have had little problem jumping 1:1. Personally, I would stick to 1:1 and below for the first 150 jumps or so. But piisfish is correct, definitely try smaller sizes first before deciding. Don't just jump to a smaller canopy. Listen to your instructor but if you DO try a 120 and find it not to your liking, go up in size, regardless of what your instructor says. After all, its you who has to fly it in the end. Since the shadow seems to be one of the many interesting things about this, I feel the need to relay a story: At breakoff during a 4-way, I was tracking off. Unfortunately, winds were higher up top than anticipated and at breakoff I was tracking towards a cloud (scattered clouds, with none above so the sun was shining). I got enough distance separation and stopped my track so I would not be tracking through it. And then I saw what looked like another person through the haze of the cloud! For a second I freaked out; I thought I was about to get hit by an opening chute. I was wrong. It was just my shadow.

Get Stainless or Not... About to Order a New Wings...
GTAVercetti replied to flyer299's topic in Gear and Rigging
I gladly paided for my stainless on my Wings. Companies can't stay afloat if they don't make some money and with the specialized nature of our sport, I expect things to be a little more expensive. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -
Get Stainless or Not... About to Order a New Wings...
GTAVercetti replied to flyer299's topic in Gear and Rigging
Since I just placed an order with Sunrise, I thought I would mention what Stainless Standard and Deluxe means so if someone does a search, they can have this new info Stainless Standard - everything stainless except for PDF legstrap adapter - you get a normal adapter Deluxe - PDF legstrap adapter is stainless as well. Bottom line is that everything, besides the adapter, is stainless, for either Standard or Deluxe. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -
dude, THAT is funny. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

I have no idea why there is any rift; we all jump out of planes. I am sure there are ideas of why, but to me it is silly. I will jump with whomever, freefly or belly. If they want to do a fun and interesting jump that fits my abilities, I am down. Doesn't mean I won't still make fun of everyone though Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

Personally, I think that shirt is hilarious. And I am a bellyflier. I too sometimes see a rift at my DZ between some bellyfliers and freefliers, but I think that what makes that rift if when: a) people make these things out of spite (which I don't think was the intention here) 2) the people who see them take them seriously instead of laughing. At least at my DZ, making fun of each other pretty much required. It keeps us humble. I would have it no other way Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

How far have you come since your 1st post?
GTAVercetti replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think I joined dropzone about 15 jumps into my AFF program. Since then: Got my A license at the end of April. - I have made 167 jumps - Started to learn to sitfly - Completed the coaching course (I am lazy so I do not have my B license and still need to assist and teach the 1st jump course) - competed in VPC with my 4-way team - done my first hybrids, tracking dives, birdman tracking dives, and so many other fun jumps - Made some of the best friends of my life My goals for next season (well, now actually) are: - Become proficient at sitflying - Get a new rig (new to me, and I am in the process already - Mirage, spectre 170, raven 181) - Fly my canopy better - Improve my RW skills and learn more blocks - Get my C license - Get my coach rating - Have more fun that I did this year (should be tough) As for the long term, my goal right now is to be a very good all around skydiver. I want to be able to get on any jump no matter who is asking. Eventually, I see myself freeflying more but I don't think I will ever stop doing RW. And I would like to become a swooper as well. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -
I will jump up to 19 steady If there are gusts, it still has to be below 19 and the gust cannot be more than 6 mph. Other rules of thumb I go by: When the local skygods sit, so do I. If the props on our Otter are spinning by themselves, I sit. If the guy flying the kite out in the field is getting DRAGGED across it, I enjoy a tasty beverage and a sammich, on the ground. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

distance from your local DZ?
GTAVercetti replied to Nimitz88's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I travel about 1.5 hours to get to Orange in Virgina. And I would drive longer if I had to to get there. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -
Yes, I would definitely wait. I waited till about a month after getting my license to get my own gear. But I was saving and getting ideas much earlier than that. By the the time you are finished with your student training, you may find that a 210 is not what you need at all. There is no rush to but this stuff. Take the time to learn to skydive first

All these rigs look great! I think these types of threads are very helpful. I have been playing around with the Wing color program and have not been able to find layouts that I like (I have the colors I want) so it is very helpful to see the different patterns being used. To me, buying the beer is not for you. It is to share with others. Regardless of whether you drink or not, someone there is going to drink the beer. I find the argument, "But I don't drink" to be self-serving. So? When you buy a gift for someone, is it always something you like? Probably not. Think of the beer in the same way. Everyone who does drink will appreciate that you bought them some cold tasty beverages. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
