  1. That sucks, but here is the bright side: Do you really want to work for a company that is putting all new hiring (permanent) hold? That is not usually a good sign. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  2. Dammit. You are on to me. Sumbitch. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  3. When did you become British? Was it on "Talk like a Pirate Day"? Argggghhh... Matey. I would say that the Brits are part of the coalition. Which the government has SO OFTEN pointed out. Pirate day. That was Monday. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  4. here is a good article. Best line is the opener: " Last week's lengthy confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee John Roberts revealed to the American people at least one important fact about the constitutional separation of powers: Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) is stark raving mad." http://www.reason.com/links/links091905.shtml Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  5. Here is a quote which saddens me. Not about this incident (or fabrication of incident it seems), but about a doctor and FEMA and lawsuits: "I showed [the U.S. Coast Guard official in charge] my medical credentials. I had tried to get through to FEMA for 12 hours the day before and finally gave up. I asked him to let me stay until I was replaced by another doctor, but he refused. He said he was afraid of being sued. I informed him about the Good Samaritan laws and asked him if he was willing to let people die so the government wouldn't be sued, but he would not back down. I had to leave." -- Dr. Mark N. Perlmutter, on being ordered to stop treating patients at the New Orleans airport by a federal official because he wasn't registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. 6. Here is something interesting from reason.com about Federal Aid to NO. I figure it fits with our talks about welfare, bloated government, etc, etc: ----------------------------------------------------- George W. Bush has done quite a bit more than promise a $200 billion spending spree on the Gulf Coast. With that massive pledge of federal aid, Bush has performed a remarkable bit of political jujitsu on himself and most of the Republican Party. Now, rather than local Democratic politicians being responsible for the lack of much meaningful, job-creating private sector activity in the region, the Republicans in control of the federal government have taken on that load. Rather than an altogether rational and long overdue decampment of the population out of dead-end situations in New Orleans and elsewhere to places of more opportunity like Houston, the feds are now committed, along with the local political bosses who need bodies to represent, to repopulating areas and recreating welfare state dependency. Remarkably, there have already been explicit calls for something like the Depression-era Works Progress Administration system of make-work "jobs" funded by federal largess, the logical outcome of pledging untold billions to the rebuilding effort without any clear guide to the goals beyond "rebuilding." A few Republicans are grumbling about this turn of events, but they are, as yet, in the distinct minority in Washington. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  7. There is a whole lot more opportunity here than in many places. Immigrants come here poor all the time and work hard and make a living. My dad, while not an immigrant, grew up poor, but had a good work ethic to work a low paying job, save slowly, buy and car and move out of Michigan to find better work. He is doing pretty good today. You are right, not everyone can make it to the TOP of the pile, but who needs it? While I would love to be really rich, I am not. I am in the middle of the pack right now (for the moment) and I am doing just fine. Society does not have to be a pyramid. It can easily be shaped like a column with a slightly tapered top. And I should feel guilty for having a good job and money? Yeah, let me get on that. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  8. Course not. Everyone with any sense realized that arms dealing only started happening 5 years ago. duh. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  9. Yes, that Gucci handbag will really help them nail that job. They are not going out and buying suits, or printing up resumes on heavy paper. I have never owned "designer" clothes and I amazingly have a job. In anycase, with any situation like this, you are bound to have those who try to fuck the system. That is the nature of the world. Of course, reports about people using the money to buy food just would not be as interesting. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  10. As opposed to N.E. Liberal Dem politicians who promise all kinds of freebees for the lazy, cater to the weirdo fringe, and claim to understand the common man? It is my MISSION to set the word LIBERAL to what it should be. Democrats are not liberal. Just like republicans are no longer conservative. Let us get that straight. Repblicans or democrats...I see very few of EITHER who understand the "common" man. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  11. Easy enough. Don't give money. Give diapers. Exactly. I saw an interview with Samuel L Jackson and he said that he COULD give money to the Red Cross or some other charity group but he would not know where it was going. Instead, whenever he was in a diner and saw someone who was affected by the storm, he bought the family their meal. And he was talking about expanding that idea and giving meals on a larger scale if he was going to do anything. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  12. I am not questioning Jesus's life or death. Nor his followers. Hell, I am not even questioning his ressurection. But to read Jpsephus' account, it sounds like he was a little less than non-bias. The only thing that I am questioning is that just because someone THINKS they see something or BELIEVES they see something does not make it true. I just think it is a poor argument. There are better ones to take if you want to try to prove the validity of Christianity. People, en masse, think they see aliens flying in the sky. Does that make it true because they KNOW they saw it? Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  13. I'm sorry I'm not communicating very well. For the original 12 (okay, 11 minus Judas) disciples, they KNEW Jesus was either alive or dead. Everyone after his resurrection had to experience it through "faith". But the original 11 KNEW -- he was DEAD or ALIVE. For them, it wasn't a matter of faith, it was FIRST HAND knowledge. They chose to die based on what they KNEW not what they BELIEVED Now to use yor lady of Guadaloupe example. Did they see an image? a mirage? a figment of thieir imagination? Perhaps, but we'll never know. As said earlier, it takes more faith for me to believe they were willing to die for what they THOUGHT They saw, than be willing to die for what the KNEW they SAW FIRSTHAND. Our Lady's first Miracle: The First Miracle The Indians, especially, were swept away with an elation that knew no bounds. As they danced and sang, in their thousands, waving green sprays to and fro, their voices thundered all around the hills with audacious but holy pride as they chanted, "The Virgin is one of us. Our pure Mother, Our Sovereign Lady, is one of us!" What an answer to the inhumanity of slavery! How could one any longer enslave the son of a Queen before whom every king must bow? In a transport of enthusiasm, one group of young warriors took their bows and celebrated by sending a pretty volley of arrows flying through the air. Unfortunately, they were not too careful where they aimed and one of the shafts struck a spectator, piercing his neck, and killing him instantly. The poor native was picked up by his sorrowing friends and carried into the chapel, where they placed him at the feet of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Here in the presence of her who had promised to be their consolation, they pathetically pleaded that she not allow such a solemnity to be marred by such a tragedy. Everyone together prayed for a miracle. "Please," the Christian Indians prayed, "let our brothers who are still in the darkness of idolatry see the power of the holy Virgin of Tepeyac." All of a sudden the dead man opened his eyes and rose up on his feet, fully recovered. Spaniards and Indians jumped for joy, spontaneously embracing one another with true brotherly affection. With the cure of this physical wound, the Mother of God, who is the Health of the Sick, began healing the wound of animosity that until then had kept these two races so bitterly divided. The Faith of the conquerors had united with the Fatherland of the conquered. The labor had indeed been most painful, but Mexico was born. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  14. It is interesting to me how much time people at dz.com, who don't believe in God, spend talking about Him and how He "doesn't exist." If He "doesn't exist," talk about something else! It's like you think that if you say it enough, it'll come true. And if you can get support from others who believe He doesn't exist, you can *really* make Him go away. Keep trying, tho. Maybe eventually denying Him will anesthetize you. One quote from chuteless usually gets us going.
  15. Eyewitness accounts are some of the worst forms of evidence.... In a court of law they carry the most weight. Is it REASONABLE they'd be willing to die for what they KNEW to be a lie? I am not saying that. They may not know it is false (and I am not saying it is either). Hundreds of people say they see miracles all the time. Do we believe all of them? Our Lady of Guadalupe for instance. GROUPS of people say they witnessed something profound, but are they all true? perhaps. perhaps not. I don't think that someone dying for a cause indicates truth. It indicates conviction. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  16. You made some very good points...till here. People die ALL THE TIME for stuff that is false. But they believed it to be true. Not saying one way or the other in this post, but that argument has serious flaws. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  17. Why is that? Light travelling from distance stars is a good one. The fact that we can look through a telescope and see millions of years in the past. All of which, can be argued by creation "scientists" (I have read the data) I know. But the reality is that probably 95% of scientist believe in the math and truth of them, while the 5% -- and the loudest -- do not. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  18. I believe the literal Bible and I don’t do what you stated above. The Bible isn’t a science book. It is not meant to explain quantum physics. You cannot believe in a literal Bible and also believe in everything physics tells us. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  19. It's going to be very disturbing indeed when you eventually have to stand and be judged in front of your creator and all you have to hold up in your defense in your physics book. Who said God couldn't make physics? belief in god != belief in Intelligent design. We also KNOW physics exists. We KNOW it produces things. We KNOW it makes things work. There is nothing to say that God did not make physics work the way it does. hell, even Steven hawking said he believes in God. However, sadly, many Christians literally believe the Bible and they throw out most of the science we have built based upon our knowledge of physics. ARGHHHH!!! I am getting sucked back in too!!! I AM GUILTY!!!
  20. Yes, but what evidence did they have that what they believed was true? Do they match up (even come close) to the ultimate demonstration of truth found in the New Testament? I love trying to argues of the validity of a deity or religion by using the religion itself. its the bestest ever. Dude, stop bothering. Believe what you want and let it go. If people don't want to believe you will certainly not convince them by using the very book they don't believe in. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  21. You posts are always so high and mighty. I believe Pride will be your downfall. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  22. Lets look at it through YOUR method. Adam and Eve? Not Jewish. Abraham? Not Jewish. Caine? not Jewish. Judah? Jewish All people come from Adam and Eve, but not all people today come from Judah or even Abraham. We may all be HEBREW( by your method) but not Jewish. Sorry. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  23. Hey, lets say MODERN liberals. real liberals would not think that. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  24. Heres the thing: I don't care. Not about what you said, but about the pledge. I am not religious for various reasons. I am arguing most because I like it. It can stay as it is or go. Whatever. If the words have no meaning to you, who cares if you say them? Now, if someone said, "Okay, after you say the pledge you must kiss the ring of the Cardinal and then proclaim Jesus as your savior" I might have a problem. But they do not. Contrary to belief, atheists and those who are not Christian are not USUALLY persecuted here for their beliefs (or lack thereof). Not anymore so than in ANY place in the world. There is intolerance everywhere and we are not free of it here. However, you will not find yourself turned down for a job for religious reasons. If you are, that is illegal. The question is not supposed to even be asked. to me, getting mad because you have to say "under God" is like getting mad if someone makes you say "I like to eat dirt" when in fact you do not. Who cares? you know it is not true, and that is what matters. I am betting too, that you could skip the "under God' part and no one would notice. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  25. Wrong, he had nothing to do with the hurricane forming. But there is photographic evidence of him digging at the levy with a shovel and giggling and chuckling the whole time. Ronald Reagan was actually nearby encouraging him while eating from a can of beans he stole from a bum. Ooo, I saw that. Cheney even used his cyborg arm drill attachment. And Karl Rove just looked at the levy and it ran away. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
