  1. Not everyone is familiar with what the Bible contains, and with the fact that the Old Testament is basically a history of God's special relationship with the nation of Israel. The first five books of the New Testament are a history, too, of the life of Christ and his followers. This is the book under consideration in this thread. Yes it is. I just did not understand why you replied to me personally is all. I have read a little of the bible here and there. Being raised Catholic will do that to ya. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  2. Yes, but the question of this thread is not INSPIRED by...but is the Bible THE WORD OF GOD. An artist can gain inspiration from his Christian faith and make a beautiful mural of hope and peace. Was he inspired by God? Perhaps. Is that mural God's direct work? probably not. But it appears we agree on that point at least.
  3. Oh jeez, would you BOTH please take it back to the other thread? Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  4. Good post. Some of the Bible is INSPIRED by God I can buy. That all of it IS the WORD of God, I do not. Especially things like Paul's Letters. He was trying to gain worshippers. He was a pitchman who was honing and refining his ideals. He was trying to spread a message How could we say that LETTERS written by a MAN (with changes in message) to followers are the direct word of God? Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  5. Uhh, thanks, but I don't know what this has to do with anything. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  6. No, you just used tactic #4. Whenever someone on the right points out someone on the left used the same tactic, tell them they are using tactic #2. SC: Filled to the brim with the "Chewbacca defense" -- GOOD TO THE LAST DROP. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  7. Another question: Jesus was prophecized to be of the line of David. Joseph was of the line of David. Mary was not. If Jesus's birth was virgin, how could Jesus be of the line of David? If it was not a virgin birth, one prophecy goes down. If it was, another falls. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  8. And I claim I am speaking the word of God. Therefore I am. See how easy that is? If I believe that the Bible is not the direct Word of God, then why would I think that the writers are correct in saying that? I can believe they BELIEVED it, but that does not mean it is true. You have faith that they are correct. I have faith they are not. There is no way to disprove it without a recursive reference. In the end, it all comes down to faith. And that is the end. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  9. There WAS a good bit of ass-slapping and backpatting going on wasn't there? Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  10. Yeah, I noticed that part after I posted but was too lazy to delete. Anyway, the bottom line for me is that this. Nearly everything Jesus said or did had a higher purpose. Therefore, I do not believe that God would spend his time making sure that laws and histories were written down that have no application to his followers TODAY. Yes, I understand we can learn ideals and attributes from the stories of David or Joshua or whoever, but what exactly can we learn from the law that a woman was considered unclean after menstration and childbirth? Hence, because I do not think God would have such now trivial information in His Bible, I do not believe the Bible is the direct Word of God. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. 11. Tithing is an Old Testament concept (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; 2 Chronicles 31:5) that Jesus also approved of (Matthew 23:23). Matthew 23:23 states: Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier [matters] of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. He was bashing them for tithing, not saying how good it is. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  12. As intriguing as that is, it does not have even one thing to do with the link rhino posted. She asked questions that Rumsfeld had a hard time answering. I am pretty sure her "links" to terrorism did not help he make those questions. All I see there is, "uh oh, someone posted something bad about the right. Better post something bad about the left, even if its relevence is nil." Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  13. temperature vs pirates. CLASSIC. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  14. I've explained why God's word is within the history of the Jewish people. Maybe my example sucked. Sorry. Anyway, can you quote what you're talking about concerning "the remaining laws of Israel are NOT to be followed?" I am simply going on what you said and what I know of the Bible. Jesus did away with dietary laws (according to some)...and in fact, even this is hotly contested. But when did he say, "hey guys, you don't have to follow all those other old Hebrew laws anymore." Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  15. Ahh, but the difference is that Iran and Sudan's laws are NOT all within the Qu'ran. However, Israel's are in a book which is the word of God. I know that Jesus negated burnt offering laws and food consumption rules, but is there a place in the bible which says that the remaining laws of Israel are NOT to be followed? 17. I think the point is to celebrate our defiance in the face of terrorism, our fortitude, our willingness to fight for our way of life and others, and our accomplishments thus far. The glass is either half-empty or half-full Bill. Your comment illustrates why the "left" doesn't have a positive message for the American people. I think this is a poor idea. Why do we not have a columbine concert and Festival? Or a Oklahoma city day fair? Mourning and remembering is one thing, a concert is just silly. And that is not coming from the left. It comes from a centrist. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  18. From post #76: "The Bible is not only a book of morals. It also gives a long historical account of the Jewish people and the Nation of Israel." It describes their trials, tribulations, mistakes, accomplishments, etc. Because of this, the Bible IS the Word of God. Everything in it, however, is not necessarily "what He wants." Plenty of people did things in the Bible that God did not approve of. So God just wanted to tell us history for a greater portion of the Bible? He was just making a record of events? I really don't see this equality: history of a nation == Word of God. Who decided that God's Law is different than Israel's? If Israel was a theocracy following God, why would their laws be different than His? They should be the same, and since Jesus says we should follow God's Law, why do we not follow Israel's? Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  19. Very nice post. One thing I never understood is the whole, "no, those are Israel's laws. They do not apply to us." And yet, the same people who say that are the ones who say, "The Bible is the WORD OF GOD. Everything in it is what He wants." So, how then, is it okay to say that certain portions only apply to a theocracy and not to everyone who follow what the Bible teaches? Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. 20. The Orange Boogie is now also the, "WE SIGNED OUR FRICKIN LEASE" boogie!!! There was overwhelming support from the community and now we are going to be here for another 25 years. Time for a new hanger. Come to the boogie and help us celebrate!!! Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  21. Hey, take giraffes "evolving" long necks to reach the top of the trees. Now, if I decided that I needed a longer neck it wouldn't happen would it? So how did the giraffes do it!?! Yes, because that is EXACTLY how evolution works. You wish for it and it happens, in one generation. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  22. The problem I have with this whole thing is the fact that people (children, men, women, babies) are kidnapped EVERY DAY in this country. Why is this one more important? Who decides that she deserved more attention than some other person? Our media does this every few weeks. They pick out one child or young adult who has been kidnapped, is missing, and/or killed and they swarm. Then they just ignore all the rest. end rant. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  23. I WILL BE THERE!!! just like every weekend. I put it up on the calendar here as well...but the spacing does not work so well. That link would serve the faithful reader better.
  24. Did you just say that God needs viagra? rasmack - OH NO!! I was hoping that would help make people believe in carbon dating! OH FOR SHAME!!! FOR SHAME!!! What I find funny is that the majority of scientists, geologists, etc, believe in at least an Old Earth. it is the detractors (ie, creationists) who are the loudest though and so their incorrect message gets heard far too often. Its always the wrongs ones who have to yell so loudly that they are right. That if, perhaps they say it at a high enough volume and enough times, it will be true. Or maybe it is to drown out the voice in the back of their heads telling them they are mistaken. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
