  1. I think it is time we all move to Cuervo Island. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  2. Ok, cool - so just *WHEN* does Clinton go to prison for espionage? Whenever you want. If he appointed unqualified cronies to highly important positions and they fucked up, he should pay as well. But as I recall, this was about Bush. But then, its seems turning anything about Bush to Clinton is a normal tactic. To use your well turned phrase, you sound like a strawman to me. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  3. You see the newest crap? Reporters are no longer reporting the news about Rita, they are MAKING it. There are now "stories" where reporters are rescuing people and dogs. Quality Journalism I tell ya. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  4. No, that is NEXT year. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  5. Good reply. But I don't think the best to God is how I look. It is how I act. I am pretty solid in the idea that if I belonged to a church and we were completely poor and had no gold or rings or gilded outfits to show off, but were pious and devout, God would accept us all the same. If that is true, why do we need all the ceremony? JPII may have lived as a monk, but there are plenty of Cardinals and officials who STILL use the power and wealth of the Church to their advantage. If it were not there, then the only thing left would be the Word of God. And in the end, that is all that matters. After all, the first shall be last and the last shall be first. Just another fundamental difference of opinion. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  6. Question is slightly incomplete, should be posed like that: "How many US civilians did SH kill?" Just in order to keep balance in fairness ... Oh, I see. So it doesn't matter if he kills a couple hundred thousand of his own citizens. No one has the right to stop him from doing so. Got it! Well, we better get started on EVERY other horrible regime in the world then. Because we are the police. Please don't try to act like it was just about saving the people in Iraq. Like we were doing it out of the goodness of our hearts. That was secondary to our search for WMD's and no spin is going to change that Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  7. Yep, been to Rome, The Vatican, all that. There is splendor in it...of that I have no doubt. It is breathtaking. There is simply no apprieciating the Sistine Chapel till you have seen it But do you honestly think that Jesus would approve of the enormousness of it all? Of the trasure troves which the church has amassed. He was a poor carpenter who taught about God. I am pretty sure he did not need inlaid gold, beautiful murals, pomp, and excess to get that across. It is all nice, but it is not needed. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  8. Yes, I a unbelievably sarcastic. And that is our fundamental difference right there. I think symbols are extraneous and unneeded additions added by the Church. Kind a like the Pope's hat or all that gold they aquire and flaunt. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  9. If you ever met me in person you would find out just how sarcastic I really am. And don't worry. I think all symbols in Christianity (not just catholicism) are not very worthwhile, not just the symbol of the priest. If you cannot have faith without them, the what exactly is your faith in? Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  10. That's great. now want to tell me what those abbrieviated measurements mean? bod? mmcfgd? Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  11. I understand you, i think. Let me try. It is symbolic of the Trinity right? Since that trinity consists of males and a ghost (a MALE ghost ) you might be inclined to want your representative to be male too. I just fail to see how having a male helps anyone realize that God is the Father. If you need to see a male priest to feel god's embrace, you are a long way from getting close. In summary, I think the symbol is worthless. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  12. Because neither make much sense to me. That is why. Not to mention that it is still picking and choosing what to follow out of the bible. If you can do it with this, why not other things? It has been enforced over and over within the Bible that thins are equal. "No sin is greater than another", "All people are equal", etc. So why would one rule, no matter how insginifcant YOU think it is, be less important. But of course, it is easier to say that women do not have to wear headcovering because of the state of feminism in the world today. But imagine that bak in the early Middle Ages? They would see your acceptance of it as pure and utter blasphemy. Isimply fail to see how having women as priests would create some kind of fundamental roadblock in the belief and spirituality of followers. A priest is not supposed to symbolize God. Symbolizing God could easily lead to idolatry of that priest instead of God himself. He is there to help us understand God and His message. Why would you have to male to do that? And of COURSE God is always refered to by the male pronouns. It was written by men. But you yourself said that God (not Jesus, but God) is not given gender. My point throughout has been that the Church (and most other branches of Christianity) like to pick and choose and rationalize the things they do. They make HUMAN decisions based on HUMAN feelings about a book that is supposed to be Inspired by God. If we are going to do, skip the pomp, circumstance, dogma, and all that and just use it as a GUIDE instead of saying it is divine word while picking what is wanted and discarding the rest. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  13. Redeemed? They were co-opted to help convert pagans to Christianity. After all, it is easier to accept a new idea if it contains some of you old ones. What symbolism is inconsisent? I just fail to see how the Church can decide that woman can go without headcoverings (which you said did not affect the Message) yet having female priests would shake it to its foundation? Is it that much a house of cards? Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  14. Well, except for the vagina and womb thing being necessary for childbirth. Unless your argument is that a penis is required for a priest so he can ..........what? it's an analogy, silly. there is more to being a mother than biological parts just as there is more to being a father than a penis, in this case, a spiritual one... gender is is tied up inextricably w/ this issue. the priest is a representative, a shadow, a figure of not only christ (who was a man) but of God the Father. How can a woman stand in that place? What does the symbol of woman do when put there? It confuses. The symbol of woman is for you and for me, those who are not priests. We, those we are NOT God, are symbolized by woman, by the womb... ones to be receptive to grace, to the movement of God. God is the initiator. See the symbolism? That is why the priest is male. That is why the easter candle is phallic. That is why it is dipped in the large vat of water, symbolic of the womb, impregnating it w/ life, w/ fertility. See it? Catholicism is ripe with sexual symbolism, esp. in the mass and in the priest. Yes, Catholism is ripe with sexual symblosm and fertility rites....borrowed from pagan religions before it. That is a horrible reason to not have women priests, in my opinion. A woman priest would somehow make people think God is a she? I think the countless references to Lord, He, Him, Father, etc would suffice to dispel such a notion. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  15. Either that or the original estimates on future supplies which you like to use are just plain wrong. - Just to be devil's advocate but is the word of the Saudi Minister and the president of an OIL company really valid when it comes to telling us how much oil is left? I mean, they have a highly vested interest in there being more rather than less. I would like to see independent data if I could. I am too lazy to look myself at the moment. I kinda liken it to listening to a tobacco company telling me their product will not kill me. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  16. Dude, we are on the same side I think. I believe the same thing you do. The religious books we have are good guides, but we must realize the CONTEXT they were written or translated in. We must realize the societal conventions involved that are no longer applicable today. The basic idea of the bible is great(New Testament at least): Be good to each other and do good works. But people get caught up in saying one thing is right while another is wrong yet try to say that following the bible is key. If THAT is key, follow the whole thing or just use it as a guide. I, like you, prefer the guide idea.
  17. it's like an automated machine that holds hundreds of movies. looks like this http://www.dvdplay.net/ They have something similar in Fredericksburg, VA. But it is a drive thru automated video place. Pretty neat. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  18. sometimes you can. No, sometimes JESUS can. There is a BIG difference when the man who is the fulcrum of Christianity says something is not correct and when his followers do. For myself, keeping the basic tenets while adapting to the current times is just fine. But if you are going to say that the Bible is God's Word, then dropping a rule while keeping another because it falls into your personal beliefs smacks of being wrong. What makes one item more important than the other? After all, the Bible is God's Word, is it not? If it is, then the WHOLE book matters, not the just portions we like or the ones that make sense to our time. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  19. So, the liberals (sorry democrats) want the government to control all business. But they also want the government to pay more than private industry could negotiate. But removing the 'pay more' law -which they don't want- will result in government control -which they do want-. yet I thought the philosophy was to do whatever it takes to realize the end goal of total socialism. So which takes priority. I guess the whole takeaway point here is that Bush-evil, approved removing the 'prevailing rate' requirement thus pushing us that much closer to socialism. So actually, Bush is a closet Democrat and has been all along. Now it all makes sense. It's very confusing (also very tongue in cheek) Holy shit...you are damn right that was confusing. Maybe you could try that again....my head hurts. The "pay more" is what? The prevailing wage thing? I thought Democrats wanted to keep it? The would be applicable to only private companies I thought. My example only applied to the Fed doing things at a higher price when it comes to work in the private sector . But I think my example was out of tune with your post anyway, so ignore me doing this. Bottom line for me: Government should not be doing private sector work, but if they do, they should have restictions on bidding because otherwise they undercut everyone...and in the end, WE ALL pay for it. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  20. you comment is similar to the following line.... so do you beat your wife often? the answer is condemning either way. your comment painted me as a gay hater which I am not. if you didn't mean to offend, so be it. no prob. my point in all this is that there is a HUGE diff b/t a woman covering or not covering her head or accepting homosexuality in the church b/c it's common practice (so the gay activists would have us believe) in today's culture. No really, there is not. If the Bible says that a gay lifestyle is wrong and it says that woman not wearing head coverings is wrong or that speaking up is wrong, then they are all wrong. You cannot pick and choose which ones still apply. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  21. The difference is that the Netherlands rarely get hit by huricanes. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  22. I would like some sources please. And not from anti-gay websites. if you will. Unbiased, independent information that this was part of the "gay agenda" Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  23. [reply Second, Paul told masters to treat their slaves justly and kindly (Eph 6:9; Col 4:1), implying that slaves are not mere property for masters to do with as they please. And yet, if this is the only DIRECT reference, it does not CONDEMN slavery, but tells the masters to treat the slaves well. A slave that is treated fairly and kindly is STILL A SLAVE. The other rationales are all interpretations by apologists. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
  24. I am not really sure how you got that the site is stating it was NOT considered an illness. Look at this sentence right here: " Only in 1973 did the American medical, psychiatric and legal professions begin to recognize that homosexuality is an orientation and not a choice, illness or crime." That last bit "and not a choice, illness, or crime" indicates that before 73, it WAS considered one (or all) of those three. Me thinks thou doth read too fast. As for the translations but, I too have too little knowledge of languages to guage it. I did want more opinions on it. But with errors that often occur in translation, I am inclined to believe some of it. I better brush up on my Greek and Yiddish. But if Hebrew and Greek do not indeed have words for homosexuality or romatic love of the same sexes, it could indeed be seen that the EARLY translators applied personal beliefs to the Word. The word arsenokoites for instance: The Greek word in 1 Corinthians 6:9 and I Timothy 1:10 that is translated "homosexual" is arsenokoites, which is formed from two words meaning "male" and "bed." The word is not found anywhere else in the New Testament and has not been found anywhere in contemporary Greek of Paul's time. We are not sure what it means. It only appears in these two lists. The word is of obscure origin and uncertain meaning. It probably refers to male prostitutes with female customers, which was a common practice in the Roman world. 25. I agree about celibacy. It is not the cause of pedophelia or homosexuality. When one is celibate, ther eis no logical reason to asume that they are going to suddenly turn that repressed feeling to children or the same sex. If they do, that desire is already there. But yeah, Courage: Hey, sorry you were born the way you are. But since you were, we have to deny you the happiness of a partner and/or lifelong companionship that us "normal" humans enjoy. oh..and if you want to try to change, we will support that. I posted this a little while back and I would really like to hear your thoughts: http://www.truluck.com/html/the_bible_and_homosexuality.html Why yes, my license number is a palindrome.
