Why we are in Iraq.........or one of 5000 reasons
GTAVercetti replied to freeflir29's topic in Speakers Corner
This conversation is not about too many kids. It is about AIDS. Apparently, you have NO concept of many African societies and their attitudes on abstinence, sex, protection, and women. Like I said, google "African dry sex" for just a taste. Telling them to "stop that" and expecting it to work is like telling Americans to stop driving their cars. Not easily done. Why we are in Iraq.........or one of 5000 reasons
GTAVercetti replied to freeflir29's topic in Speakers Corner
I love this "but we're really hypocrits" argument. We have two extremely polarized political parties which change power on average every 10 years. Yet there is outrage that conflicting policies occur over time (let alone under constantly changing world views). In practice, it translates to an isolationist policy in the end because things change and we 'wouldn't want do something in conflict with an action from 30 years ago'. Do nothing, hide in the corner. Isolationism tends to go with my idea of small federal government. While not practical in today's world, I would like seeing less US military presence in the world. I don't want us to be the police anymore. mmmm, pipe dreams taste like sasparilla. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -
So essentially you're saying the system's broke'. Nope. Heck, I'm qualified to be a justice. Anyone over the age of 35 can be President, which is a damned scary thought, but that's our system. The system is actually working as intended. You are saying that a system that has degenerated into who can withstand the attacks better is not broke? I would say the PRINCIPLES of the system are correct. The method used to realize those is broke. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

I think you really mean give it away, don't you. Why do they have aids? All they have to do is not have sex. What does that cost.....nothing. Yes, a culture which does not promote abstinence while enforcing the subsurvience of women can be turned around just like that. Why don't you google "Africa dry sex" for starters. What a simplistic idea for a very complex problem. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -
Why we are in Iraq.........or one of 5000 reasons
GTAVercetti replied to freeflir29's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, it would makes sense....if the actual reason we went there in the first place was to stop his crimes against human rights. Unfortunately, that is just the SUBSTITUTE reason. Do you really think that if Saddam had not moved against one of our allies during the first Gulf War, we would have gave a rats's ass about "poor Iraqi's"? No, the first War was motivated by a threat to a friend. The second was motivated by bad intelligence and misplaced zeal to find the bad guy. It had VERY LITTLE to do with the plight of the Iraqi people. If 9/11 had never happened and the Gulf war had never happened, we would not be there right now. And the Iraqi people would still be under Saddam's rule. That we did it to help them is bullshit and spin created when the first reason failed. We did not go there out of the goodness of our hearts. But if you are going to say that we should be there because of mass killings and atrocities, I suggest we go take out every other dictator, government, rebel group who does the same. We better head back to Africa straight away then. We start in Zimbabwe. After, we can go to Sudan, Burma, Turkmenistan, many others, and we can wrap it up with North Korea. I figure we can be done by the time the sun burns out or the nuclear winter sets in, which ever comes first. In hindsight, yes it is good, but do NOT try to say that we started this war to HELP the Iraqi people. It my be a byproduct, but not the main reason no matter what spin cycle you set your washer to. We are stuck there now. Leaving would be worse than anything. But let's not delude ourselves as to WHY we are there. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -

That's not the issue. The problem is that many states allow citizens to keep a self defense gun in their cars, either with or even without a special gun carry license. So the issue is that these companies are making it impossible for the citizens to exercise this right. If you can't have a gun in your car at work, then you also can't have the gun with you while driving to and from work. All gun owners want to be able to do is to have their self defense gun in their car for their commute. And private companies shouldn't be able to override state law in this specific regard, because their policy has an effect that reaches beyond their own property line. Ill effect or not, the company has the right to ban something from occuring on ITS property. It does not matter it that choice affects the right to carry before they get there. They are no saying you cannot carry up to the get. They are just saying that you cannot carry onto the grounds. I think gun owners should just suck it up and deal with it. PRIVATE properties should be able to retain PRIVATE rules. I like guns. I like to shoot them, but people get absolutely RIDICULOUS with the right to carry. If a company has a no gun policy, and you don't like it... QUIT. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

First question: So if a private corporation or organization wants to ban a certain lawful group of people in a discriminatory manner, then that's okay with you? You support the right of the Boy Scouts to ban homosexuals? You support the right of country clubs to ban blacks? As much as I disagree with them and abhor what they do. Yes. They have the right. Just like the Catholic church can discriminate against gays. But because I do not believe that what they do is correct, I do not participate. As for private property, if an employee KNOWS the policy of a company and that policy states "No guns", then personal privacy does not apply. They decided to work for the company knowing the conditions. They either follow those conditions or they get a new job. If the condition was not made apparent, THEN I have a problem. Simple as that. That is called freedom. The company is free to say no guns and the employee is free to not work there. Besides all this, what good does a gun in your car do at work? Except allow theives the chance to steal your gun from your car (which is probably not as secure as your house)? Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

If it is a private company and you know they have a no gun policy and a vehicle search policy and you bring your car onto their lot with a gun, then yes, you can be fired. If it is not on the books, then no. The point is is that a company can say what they allow on their property. And, what, pray tell, does my sig line say about me? Do you even know what it is from? This is not 6 degrees. It is one. Bush's PERSONAL lawyer. The woman who represented him. Who was intimately involved in his affairs. Let me ask you this. And please be honest and take this hypothetical situation on its own merits. If this were Clinton's PERSONAL lawyer and HE had nominated her to the SUPREME COURT for a LIFETIME appointment, what would you say? Would you not question the ethics of putting a woman with no judging experience who fought for the president's sake? Its not like she was JUST some random good lawyer. I know I would. I would be very very leery. And I am now. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

The Constitution constrains the government, not private employers. You have no free speech rights in your workplace either. If you badmouth your boss over the PA system at work, don't expect the 1st Amendment to protect you from being dismissed. True, but that is not what we are talking about are we? you like to redirect don't you........ Redirect? What the hell? You opened the topic to Constitutional rights. Last time I checked, the 1st was one of them. It is a logical idea that if you think the 2nd amendment should be uphelp in a PRIVATE business then the 1st should be too. In other words, if I can bring a gun to my employer's workplace, then I can also send disparaging emails about him without fear of termination. Conversly, if I am not allowed to do the latter(which I am not in most businesses), then there is not reason why I should be able to do the former. Me thinks this "stop redirect" debate tactic is taking the place of "You don't like Bush, well, Clinton sucked too" technique. Used far to often and a silly diversionary method of non debate. Just questionable? His PERSONAL attorney (I couldn't care less if it is FORMER)? You see choosing a woman who was INTIMATELY involved with the president -- not just knowing him or working along side him, but REPRESENTING HIM -- as just questionable? This is stupidity at its best. I thought the Robert's confirmation was just fine. This is just retarded. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

That is made necessary by the tactics of the opposition. Roberts got over easy because he was a conservative replacing a conservative. The Dems didn't lose their 5-4 liberal majority on the court. The vote was 78-22 in favor. That means that about half of the Democrats in the Senate voted in favor of Roberts. But when a conservative is nominated to replace O'Conner, it will be a conservative to replace a liberal. That will tip the balance of court into a 5-4 favor for conservatives. The Dems lost the Presidency. They lost the majority in the Senate. They lost the majority in the House. All they've got left is the Supreme Court. This is like the Alamo for them. That's why I predict all hell will break loose. And we all know what happened to the defenders of the Alamo... Yeah, its good. We really should keep up this cycle of stupidity. The "they did it first!" response always makes things better. What a crock of fucking shit. But then, I guess a divided country is a GOOD thing. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Fryer oil. There is a commune in Minnesota that uses old fyer oil to run their cars. They ue bio-diesel to get it started and heat the oil. Once it is hot enough, they switch over to the veggie oil Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

Yes - both black and a woman! How could the democrats possibly criticize her, without ostracizing their own base? She's perfect. You're response is about 'beating' the competition. But that's the crap people get frustrated about both parties. But I thought bashing the other party into submission is how we get shit done in this country!!! That is the AMERICAN WAY!!! DeLay Is Charged With Criminal Conspiracy in Texas
GTAVercetti replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
Not exactly a great news source unless you like everything pre-spun. Sound like the mark has been hit. As long as it is against the Democrats, its news. Against the Republicans, its heresay. Lets get three cheers for thinking one party is actually better than another...hip, hip....blehhh. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -
There has been a net transfer of $$$ from northern "Blue" states to southern "Red" states for years. Did you see that FEMA took out a 6 month contact with Carnival Cruise Lines to provide housing for the displaced, when Greece had offered to provide ships FREE. Money to the cronies again, or just incompetence? Incompetence. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

debate: social responsibility of businesses
GTAVercetti replied to GTAVercetti's topic in Speakers Corner
He sid they gave HER income to the relief without asking. Not the company's profit money. She got a pay cut so they could donate for her. I find that to be wrong. But that is not the topic at hand. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. -
So what happens if the soy additive is not available? Would that mean that all diesel vehicles, basically all trucking, in the entire state would be shut down? They are not replacing all fuel, just a percent. I imagine if there is a soy drought, they will allow regular fuel to be used instead of going into economic collapse. debate: social responsibility of businesses
GTAVercetti replied to GTAVercetti's topic in Speakers Corner
You implied this position is debatable and therefore it is legitimate, see the following text in boldface, your own words: THe debate is not to make charity mandatory but whether people think they SHOULD on a VOLUNTARY basis. I would NEVER propose a requirement or law. That goes entirely against my principles. Which is where the question, "Does it need to?" and its answer comes from. In other words, "Do I PERSONALLY need a company to give to charity to be a good business? the answer is no. But I will not fault a successful company for doing so either. debate: social responsibility of businesses
GTAVercetti replied to GTAVercetti's topic in Speakers Corner
Good for you. Just don't impose your views on me or my for-profit businesses and we'll co-exist swimmingly. At the present time I'm diligently working on a not-for-profit organization to which the for-profits likely will be contributing substantial funds and other resources over time. For me the separation between the different entity types and their guiding principles is important and I am absolutely against the forced contributions that are insidiously weaving their way into professional firms and companies with increasing frequency. Blutarsky 2008. No Prisoners! Where did ANYONE in this thread or that debate say that chairty should be enforced? In fact, I SPECIFICALLY said the opposite.
