  1. Anyone know what the hits in and hits out are on http://www.dropzone.com/topsites/? I assume hits in are "click ins" from the web pages. What are hits out? Dave
  2. Man this thread is depressing me. My first jump was in September of 1998. AFF 1 at Ocean City, MD. It's depressing cause lots of you started a while after me but have 4 or more times as many jumps. Heck, I know one guy that started a month before I did and has almost 20 times as many jumps. Well, I guess I can be happy about all the money I've saved, right? Dave
  3. Don't you skydive for a living? Please tell me you're talking about the boring desk job portion of your workday.
  4. I'm laughing too much at work.... needed to close that. Dave
  5. Holy crap, my old helmet looks JUST like that! I didn't know it was such a rare artifact. And to think all this time I thought it was just a skateboarding helmet! I better polish it up and get it on Ebay right away!
  6. ftp://ftp.skydivingmovies.com/public/from%20TV/ae-behind_closed_doors_1.mpg (48 megs) and ftp://ftp.skydivingmovies.com/public/from%20TV/ae-behind_closed_doors_2.mpg (67 megs) Sorry about the huge file sizes... someday I'll get around to compressing those better. Dave
  7. They probably did. He just did his research on rec.skydiving.
  8. If you held your breath for the whole ride to altitude in even the fastest jump plane, I think you'd have more to worry about than a burst lung.
  9. I've had canopies do some weird stuff to me, but haven't had that happen yet. When I was jumping PD230s, I'd end up on my back when I did really tight turns sometimes. Scared the crap out of me the first time it happened and never really figured out what was going on. A couple times I ended up getting the spring loaded pilot chute caught over the nose of the canopy. Once I'd let the toggle back up, everything was fine. The thought to cut away was definitely not a "dumb student" idea. I've read (on dropzone.com I'm sure) that "induced" linetwists can be unrecoverable even on lightly loaded student canopies. Dave
  10. I don't really know, but it sounds to me like the harness just wansnt tight enough. If it's on right, you shouldnt be able to move down all that much. Those tandem harnesses are "one size fits none" as I've heard one tandem instructor say before he puts it on each student. Maybe it just didn't fit your body type well. I've never done a tandem but I've heard a lot of people say the harnesses are very uncomfortable. I'm sure you'd be fine doing AFF and wearing a regular rig. 220 is definitely not too much or anything. Also, it mighta been uncomfortable, but I doubt there was any real danger. The harnesses are designed so it's impossible to fall out. Dave
  11. Sure is. I bought a book (Adobe Classroom in a Book) which helps a lot. Still it's not an easy program to learn. On top of that, mine crashes my computer every time i close it (have to get out with CTRL-ALT-Delete) which makes me not even wanna open it to learn more. Dave
  12. As soon as I can connect to my own server (it's full... getting too popular I guess), I'll upload a video. I was just playing with some video editing software that came with my brand spanking new 128 meg video card. I cut a jet jump scene out of another video on my server (/from tv/cnbc-nat_geog_part2.mpg). It's Tom Sanders' first jet jump. There'll be 2 versions, high and low quality, 3 megs and 23 megs. /from tv/jetjump_tom_sanders.wmv and jetjump_tom_sanders_large.wmv. Also check out /exits/727.avi (1.5 megs). Dave
  13. Heard on the news there was an accident at CPI. I didn't catch the whole thing and ya never know what they'll report, but it sounded like a landing accident. I believe they said he's in critical condition. Anyone know more? Dave
  14. Kilborn was great on the daily show but his show sucks. Dave
  15. A couple have been mentioned in other threads but since there were a few uploads today I thought I'd share where they all ended up. /RW/texel_4way.avi (3 megs) dropzone.com original 4 way record. /RW/moskwa-2002.wmv (21 megs) 13 minutes of 4 way RW. /freefly/middle.mpg (28 megs) freeflying clips. /landing/f1freak_Lucky.wmv (2 megs) f1freak learns to swoop the hard way. Dave
  16. moved to /landing/f1freak_lucky.wmv Dave
  17. I do all my stretching after each jump trying to pack my canopy.
  18. Feel free to use my site, http://www.skydivingmovies.com if you've got any videos you'd like to share. Just upload a text file with it containing any extra info you'd like to share. Plenty of space (right, Andy?) so no need to delete videos afterwards (unless you don't want it there permanently). I was working on a system to allow users to submit comments about each video before, but the current server doesn't support the necessary software (a SQL server and PHP enabled http server). When AndyMan gets bored of skydiving and gives it up in exchange for the exciting world of database programming, maybe we'll get that running again. But, it's probably easier to let people comment right here anyway. Now get a webcam, laptop, and wireless internet, and maybe we'll be able to comment in real time. "...aaaaaaaaaand FLARE NOW!"
  19. Changed my mind. Just moved it to /RW/. Hope I didn't cut off anyone's download doing that. Dave
  20. http://www.skydivingmovies.com. I'll move it when I get home from work to the /RW/ folder. Dave
  21. Where is the beer? Wow, I can't believe I said first without even thinking about it. Ummm, well, uhhhhhh.... yeah. By the way, out of curiousity, what are the "blue laws" like in other states? I'm in CT this summer, and you can't buy alcohol (outside of a bar) past 8:00 pm any day of the week. How much does that suck? Dave
  22. Oh my goodness. This isn't a competition. I already won cause I was first!!!! Besides, it's quality, not quantity that counts, right?
  23. Out of curiosity, why are Army Rangers jumping out of that? Who's is it? Dave
