I got mine pulled a few years ago. I had no problems and was back to eating normal food in only like 4 or 5 days. If you're on pain killers, just make sure they won't cause any problems. Dave

This is the attitude I've been hearing a lot lately. I completely disagree. If you don't like it, leave? Is this your country to tell anyone else to leave from? Where are the people that don't want the word god in the pledge supposed to go? Back to where those commie foreigners came from? They're just as american as you are (assuming you're american). Telling people to just deal with it when the government is acting in a way they don't agree with is just not the way america works. I can't believe how many people think the idea of removing "under god," which was added less than 50 years ago, is so stupid. Yes, there are more important things to worry about, but that doesn't mean we should just forget about it. Dave

I am not an atheist, and I am all for removing "under god." I think it should be taken off our money and out of official government ceremonies too. In my opinion, it just doesn't belong. I didn't read the other thread(s) about this, so this may have been posted already, but have you actually read the history of the pledge? http://www.aclu.org/news/move/pledgeorigin.html To summarize: The pledge was written originally as "I pledge allegiance to my flag and to the Republic for which it stands -- one nation indivisible -- with liberty and justice for all" in 1892. No mention of god until it was added in 1954 "at the urging of the Knights of Columbus." Very interesting article. I've seen tons of people interviewed on TV about how the pledge is a part of our heritage and yackety shmackety... turns out they're pretty much just wrong. Oh, just to clarify, I'm not a PC weeny. Just a regular one. Dave

Yeah, but don't you have to pay like $14 in tolls? Plus when you get there you have to deal with all those planes and people. Who wants that?

About 2 and a half hours from DC, maybe a little less. Or 35 minutes by Cessna 172 if you can find a ride.

well, on the wallpaper topic, here's one i made a few years ago from an actual picture of a wall of my dormroom (my roommate's side, of course

9 hours after they broke her water? Nah, I'm pretty sure they won't let it go that long . I slipped the doctor a $50 to delay things a bit. -

ONE DOLLAR! Oh wait, wrong game. How about 2:15 am, girl Dave -
Overall I think a collegiate skydiving association is a very good idea. I don't think associating it with the USPA is though. It's gonna take some very motivated collegiate and former collegiate skydivers to make something like that happen. I find running one little club to be more work than I have time for. Couldn't imagine trying to start an organization. I have no idea how much interest there'd be. The college skydiving listserve (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/college_skydiving/) was a start at getting collegiate skydivers together, but it barely gets used. Dave

slightly more updated list at http://www.inform.umd.edu/studentorg/cpsc/OtherClubs.html. Dave

They get their info straight from the registration database, so it must have just been entered wrong at some point. The 172 I used to fly at home is in the database as a '68 model, when it's really a '69 (which has a different model engine). I guess if the owner never corrects them, they don't notice. Alright, never mind. too tired to change what i wrote... I just searched the FAA database and see it's correctly in there as a '59. (http://162.58.35.241/acdatabase/NNumSQL.asp?NNumbertxt=2516G&cmndfind.x=20&cmndfind.y=13). No idea where they got the 52 from. must be a typo. The plane is registered to CPI. Anyone have any more details? This is my new temporary home DZ, although I've only jumped there one day. Dave

Actually I'm not sure exactly how it'll work, but it may affect private pilots too. A new category of aircraft is created by the NPRM (I think). Even as a private pilot, you can't fly an uncertified two seat "ultralight" unless it's registered as an experimental. I think the sport pilot NPRM (I haven't read it in a while and don't feel like trying to see if I'm right) will automatically include a bunch of designs, so I'm guessing it'll open up certain planes to private pilots as well. I can't imagine sport pilots will be allowed to fly types private pilots aren't. Dave

An ultralight can only have one seat (in the US), with one exception. Two seaters can be used for training flights. Joyrides with passengers, no matter who's flying, are illegal. Your flight must have officially been a training flight. The sport pilot license is a new license that will hopefully be approved by the FAA soon. Basically it'll be minimal training required to fly small 1 or 2 seat planes that dont qualify as ultralights. Certified and homebuilt planes could qualify for "sport plane" status. Should bridge the gap nicely between true ultralights and small planes. Dave

Hmm, lets see... I'd probably be sitting at my computer, reading mindless stuff, and watching TV. Hmmm, sounds familiar! Although I wouldn't be the president of a skydiving club so I wouldn't have so much crap to deal with all the time, so it would make my life better. YEAH RIGHT!

Maybe he has elves or munchkins that maintain the site for him. C'mon... he MUST have some kind of staff! Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com

I'd probably hit the ground real hard, stand up, shake myself off, then wake up from the nightmare. My canopy doesn't go all crazy with line twists!

Don't think it's changed since last time, but here's the pic on my background. My actual desktop is way too cluttered... http://www.skydivingmovies.com

The difference isnt firing height, but firing speed. The purpose is so it pops the reserve during a partial malfunction which the student doesn't cut away. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com

I got really tired of wearing hot pink rental jumpsuits, so that was the first thing I bought (also right after I got a 25% off coupon for a bev suit, which helped). Then I soon got a helmet (protec), goggles (kroops), and altimeter (alti 3). The rig came a bit later. Then came a new helmet. Soon I'm gonna want a new canopy. Hmm this buying thing never ends, does it? I'd suggest waiting as long as you can stand it for the rig, as long as you can rent decent equipment. The altimeter is a good start since its pretty universal. Don't need a different one for RW or freeflying. An audible would be nice, but you can jump without one and you probably wont have an easy spot to mount it if you're still using a rented helmet. If you're stuck jumping something like a manta, you might want to consider getting a rig sooner. I'd also suggest getting an RW suit. I think it can really help RW skills (not that I have any). I've got in on a VHS tape, but no VCR to get it on to my computer. I have one of those TV-VCR combos and it doesnt have outputs. Its a pretty good show. Lots of interviews with big names in skydiving. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
