  1. The playa was able to open it but it crashed my computer when I tried to close it. Also the video played in slow motion for some reason. I assume it's not supposed to. I'll try the link you sent. That looks very useful. Maybe i'll put a link to it on the server. See ya, Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  2. Bought mine used. Had it sent to fliteline to have the harness cut to my size right before they went backrupt. The company that makes the Reflex now is called Trident (formerly known as Bomber Mfg.). I actually don't know if the work on my rig was done by fliteline or bomber, but it took whoever it was something like 4 months. I assume it was sitting in storage most of that time because it was originally supposed to take a week. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  3. Haven't had that problem. I think my rigger originally retightened it after my first couple jumps on it, but after getting it repacked last time I never needed to get it retightened. Anyway, it looks easy enough to do yourself. I havent done it myself but it's no more than tugging on a string a few times. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  4. I have a reflex. It's my first rig so all I can compare it to is the javelin student gear I was using before it. The flaps all seem to stay in place nicely, good bridle and riser protection. There's really nothing in particular I don't like about mine except the colors. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  5. Too bad they can't start now. I'm the president of a collegiate skydiving club so I've given presentations to college students over and over. They all stop paying attention when I get to the prices. I've had soooo many people tell me they're DEFINITELY going to do it just disappear, never to be heard from again. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  6. I downloaded it and took a look. Couldn't get a picture, just sound. Any special encoding or anything that you can think of? You'd think by now I'd know a thing or two about video/codecs and all that, but apparently not. On the bright side I think my bandwidth restrictions are being lifted. I managed about 50 k/s to download it, when I was only getting about 12-15 when my server was running 24/7. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  7. If you just want to fly for fun, don't get paid to do it. You really have to WANT to be an airline pilot to ever get there. There are plenty of other flying jobs out there, like jump pilot. To fly jumpers in a 182 sized plane, you'll need a commercial rating and about 500 hours minimum. To fly a kingair or twin otter type, you'll need more like 1500 hours with plenty of twin time. You'd pretty much have to work your way up from the bottom. I have no idea how people do it. If fun flying is all you really want, get paid to do something else and spend your money on flying (and jumping). Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  8. nope but this does: http://www.csh.rit.edu/~wxs/images/humor/midgettossing.swf Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  9. I don't think that camera has "zoom." It looks like it has 8X optical magnification, just like a regular pair of binoculars. I mean, I assume there's no way to zoom out with it. Optical zoom is what a "real" zoom camera has. It moves the lenses to make a larger image. Digital zoom is like making a picture bigger on the computer. You don't get any more detail, but rather just make the detail you have bigger. It's 100% useless if you have any photo editing program to crop and enlarge a picture. 10. The Skydiving Movies FTP server moved to its new location, now hosted by AndyMan. The URL is still http://www.skydivingmovies.com. It'll lose some features like the lists of yesterday's downloads and the top 200, but hopefully the speed will improve a lot, at least for those with fast connections. Since I'm connecting the same way you are now, it'll take me a little longer to move files around and stuff like that, but keep the uploads coming! So how's it working? Let me know what kind of download speeds you're getting and also let me know if there are any problems. I'm going to miss my hard drive whirring 4 feet from my head all night. Since November of 2000, over 80,500 files were downloaded, totalling more than 445 gigabytes. There have been over 100,900 connections to the server, with a total connected time of 16,542 hours and 32 minutes. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  11. My brother sent me the link. No idea where he found it. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  12. check out http://home.cwru.edu/cgi-bin/multibabel. It uses babelfish to translate whatever you want back and forth between a bunch of languages, till just about anything loses all meaning. For example: "dropzone.com kicks ass" translates to "dropzone.com gives to an effect the donkey." Now certain dropzone.com readers may very well effect donkeys in all sorts of ways so maybe thats not such a bad translation. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  13. Totally agree, but nobody's talking except manufacturers. Why? Nobody (or very few people anyway) KNOW the differences between the manufacturing techniques of different manufacturers. I don't know if he's an expert on it, but what if Bill Booth would comment on canopies and Dan would switch to container issues? That would work for me. I'm happy to get any info I can from anywhere I can. When one manufacturer speaks about another's processes, I would like to know how they know that information though. Dan mentioned PD's and Precision's stitching. How do we know he didnt go on a tour of PD 10 years ago, saw what they do, and later heard precision has the same techniques? We have no way of knowing. However, I do know that manufacturers (outside of skydiving) care more than anyone what their competitors are up to. Last summer I worked for a major jet engine manufacturer. I KNOW that some of what they did was reverse engineering a competitor's parts. Manufacturers learn from their competitors. I bet nobody knows more about whats going on at GM than Ford. Why not listen to them? Sure, we have to keep in mind Ford wants you to buy their cars so they'll only tell you what makes their's better, but that doesn't mean we can't get valuable information about both their cars and GM's. Know what I mean? Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com

    I fly

Woohoo! Now you can do the funnest thing ever... fly to the DZ and jump (not in the same plane). I dont know what makes it so fun but I just love doing that. I guess just flying with a real goal at the destination makes it a lot funner. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
  15. I used some special software to capture it and used to have it on my site. But believe it or not, I was threatened with a law suit if I didn't remove it and a few other files. Jerk. Bill Booth, why don't ya sue him and get the rights to the video handed over to dropzone.com?
  16. Wow, those really look professional. I'm impressed. Dave http://www.skydivingmovies.com
