Chances are neither will happen and you'll have a great time. Never heard anyone not sure about skydiving for fear of getting lost. You should be more afraid of getting addicted. Seriously though, you don't need to worry about getting lost. It's easy to get back to the airport and even if you land off the airport, you'll know which direction to walk since you just saw the airport from above. Also, most dropzones will send a car out to pick you up. You could do a tandem jump and leave it to the instructior to get you back if you're really worried about it. Dave

Well, it's made of very hard metal and pretty thick. I'm sure given enough time it could be cut, but I guess the idea is to deter theft. They weren't designed to deter terrorism though, so who knows how effective they actually are. Dave

May very well affect skydiving in the future. There are proposals now to require high fences around every airport. I fly (flew?) out of one of the 3 closest general aviation airports to washington national airport. They had to implement a number of new security procedures to reopen, including things like requiring prop locks on all planes when not in use (basically a chain that goes around the prop, causing it to be out of balance if the engine was started. You'd shake the engine off it's mount before getting in the air if you tried to fly with it on). Thats not such a big deal, but imagine a fence around your DZ. Barbed wire and parachutes probably don't get along too well. How much would (will?) that suck. Lets just hope the people that make the rules are smart with their decisions. Dave

Dont forget gate fees. Not cheap to park a plane at the loading area. Dave

The jump is free, it's just the plane ride up ya pay for, right? I haven't found most of the rides up very amusing at all. Most of the time half the people are falling asleep and the other half are complaining about a fart. Assuming the tickets are for the plane ride only, and the plane is operating under part 91, well, wouldnt all part 91 commercial ops be charged sales tax? Ok, I'm not helping... Dave

Well that neat trick ya did with your ankle freed up your weekends, right? Dave

Well, I move the files, but I do it either by downloading and reuploading, or using the rename command in ftp for DOS. Haven't found a "drag-and-drop" way of moving a file on a remote server yet. I can probably edit the welcome message, but its just a bit time consuming to do it after every upload/move. Dave

Well, the pilot would probably get in the most trouble cause he has the most to lose (cant really take a skydiver's license away for breaking the rules, or anything like that), but jumpers are just as responsible for following the FARs. Do jumpers (not pilots or DZs) ever get in trouble for FAR violations? Dave

Eh? Speek inglesh! You agreeing or disagreeing?

Wow, thats awesome... thanks sangiro! I like sending people in through the web page cause then I can see where people are coming from at http://extremetracking.com/open;ref1?login=skyftp. But it's definitely more convenient when someone's talking about one particular file! Dave

Maybe not dangerous, but it is a federal offense, right? Wonder if anyone's ever been arrested for jumping an out of date rig... That would be pretty funny. Dave

Not sure if you meant to reply to me or if you were replying generally, but I totally agree. Those pilots deserve to lose their licenses and face jail time. My point is, if Mr. Cessnapilot drives drunk coming home from a party at 2 am, should he lose his pilot's license? I'm all for taking away his drivers license for the rest of his life (yeah, I'm serious), but why not let him fly? Multiple offenders might be a different story, but is there a definite correlation between drinking and driving and drinking and flying? I doubt it. Dave

Seems to be an intel indeo codec. I just converted it to DivX, and dropped the size down to 1.25 megs. You can find the new one at /base/basecollision_DivX.avi. Talk about scary. Dave

Yep, all drunk driving convictions for pilots have to be reported to the FAA. I'm against drunk driving so I don't really care about being harsh to people that do it, but I don't necessarily think that just because a pilot drives drunk means there's any chance he'll fly drunk. Although obviously people have flown drunk before, it's almost never done compared to driving drunk. Pilots know there's no 3 strike rule or warnings in flying. Do it once and ya might never fly again, even if you survive. Dave

Well of course. It takes a hacksaw and a measuring tape. Cut it off, and even it out by cutting the same amount off the other side. It can be done without the measuring tape but that's just sloppy. Hey, that IS a ligitimate temporary fix for propellers! Duct tape can be used to cover the sharp edges.

By the way, I happened to see the plane on Saturday. Last couple feet of the right wing are bent up at about a 90 degree angle. Looked like the bottom half of the cowling was removed. Other than that I couldn't see anything else wrong with it (from a bit of a distance of course). Didn't look too bad (although probably expensive!) Dave

Homer: "It's all in the Bible... The Prankster's Bible." http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/DBSearch.cgi?DBSearchDB=ecfr&DB=1&ACTION=View&QUERY=91.17&RGN=BSEC&OP=and&QUERY=14&RGN=BTI&QUERY=2649&RGN=BSECCT&SUBSET=SUBSET&FROM=1&ITEM=1 Yep, they were both over twice the legal limit to fly. Holy Shmoly, this is my 300th post. Who knewed? Dave

Thats about what I loaded the student canopies I used to use. Bought my own and now I'm WAY up at .8 (or maybe .85 if I wear all my weights). I did a couple jumps as a student under a manta loaded at about .45. I am very familiar with backing up under canopy

The legal limit for a pilot to fly is .04. .08 is just to drive in that state. Also can't have ANY alcohol within 8 hours of flying. Who cares about company policy or even getting arrested. They'll probably never fly again. Idiots. Dave

Are children taught christmas songs in public schools? I didn't think so. If they are, I'm opposed to that far more than "under god" in the pledge. Dave

I don't have a really convenient way of listing recent uploads on my site, so I'll just list some of the new ones here. /cutaways/parachute reserve ride.avi (950ish K) No idea who uploaded this one or anything about it, but it's one scary video. First a camera flyer collides with the formation he's filming, then it cuts to his main/reserve entanglement. Works out fine. Anyone know anything about this one? /base/baserekord_hoy.wmv Tom Erik Heimen, Martin Rosén, Stein Olsen, Mikael Nordqvist, Ingar Strand and Bjørn Magne Bryn made a seven-way with wingsuits from Nebbet in Gudvangen on Thursday, during the Ekstremsportveko 2002. From http://www.nrk.no/magasin/upunkt/adrenalin/1957713.html. (Thanks Craig!) /base/TomAiello/Jinx.mov 150 foot cliff basejump into water. Canopy ride of...well... not very long. Lots of other have been uploaded within the last few weeks. Thanks to all the uploaders! Dave

Although I agree it wasn't an appropriate thing to say (assuming it wasn't meant as a joke), I don't think calling everyone that believes in god "dummies" can quite be classified as a personal attack. Offensive, maybe, but personal? Dave

As I said before, I'm not an atheist but I totally agree with you chickenhawk. The fact is, "under god" does not refer to all gods. It refers to one god, which not everybody believes in. It does not unite people of different beliefs. It alienates them. Dave
