J1 w/Spectre 170 & PD 143 okay for beginner?
tigra replied to skydivecarol's topic in Gear and Rigging
Well, for the record, the size of the reserve and the size of the reserve in relation to the size of the main WAS mentioned earlier. Nothing was glossed over. Wingloading was also addressed- the answers ranged from "That's too high" to "downsize even more" with a few in between all from people who don't know her and have never seen her fly or land a canopy. She'll probably buy a 135 because it will be easier to pack and she'll get better penetration on days that would otherwise be too windy to jump. Yup- wingloading advice on the internet is great! -
No problem! And I totally get the life challenges, but you're back on track now. Don't over due and give yourself more challenges, OK? When my trainer told me I gained a pound, all I could think about was the BBQ pork sandwich and fries I had had for lunch earlier. I KNEW it was a bad idea on a "weigh in" day, but it was soooooo good! Sometimes you just need to indulge!

I don't think anything was glossed over at all. I'm personally not about to touch the wingloading question, especially not here, over the internet with someone I've never met. If she wants to talk wingloading, either for her main or reserve, it should be with someone who knows her and her canopy flying skills not a bunch of stranger on the internet (no matter how good our intentions are.) But she also asked about the gear in general- if it sounded like a good set up for a good price. That's a much more appropriate question for this forum, don't you think? -
Just be careful. I'm sure you know your own limits but training that hard on a day you're making arrangements for an X-ray doesn't seem right.

Well, its kind of cool that ONLY 2-3 times a week feels like slacking, isn't it?
-
So the spill you took last night didn't have any lasting effects? Good to hear. And wow- I think my 3-5 days a week mixing cardio and strength training is "dedicated" but 2 workouts in one day pretty much trumps that!

Even without watching the show last night, I know this comment is 100% right!

Anyone want to check in?? Looks like Jaye hasn't started a new thread in a couple of weeks! Last week, I was down 2 pounds but last night I was up 1- that leaves me 10 to go by July 4- totally do-able if I can resist the sweets and french fries! Better news is that I'm really seeing a difference in muscle tone and noticing a difference at the gym in terms of what I can lift, etc. I'm happy with that! I worked legs on my own Monday night (plus cardio) and last night was mostly upper body with the trainer and we did a little boxing. My arms felt like they were going to fall off by the time we were done but that hardly ever happens. right? I've got a Zumba class tonight and I hope to get some lower body and abs in before the class.

The price seems very high to me. Keep in mind regardless of the condition of the gear, you've only got 2 years left on the cypres and at some point you'll want a re-line on the main. Have you looked through the classified section here for similar gear? Not to mention- how are your packing skills? The Spectre 170 has got to be a tight fit in a J1 that's really made for a 150 if I'm not mistaken. (yeah, its a 7 cell and will pack a little smaller but........) -
Well, lets face it- ANYONE will sound better in the studio. One thing I actually respect about American Idol is that these kids sing live and sound pretty good doing it most of the time which is more than the Brittenys, Jessicas and Ashlees of the industry can usually pull off.

Honestly, Taylor Hicks and Daughtry pretty much proves it. Its more about ratings than who they think they can make the most money off of after the show. The early exit for Chris Daughtry was one of their "shockers" designed to keep people watching. Why Taylor Hicks as the winner? I don't think anything can explain that Hicks except maybe someone lost a bet somewhere ............... That being said, I also don't think they expected Daughtry to be as hugely successful as he was/is or that Taylor Hicks would flop as miserably as he did. I think they are wishing they had kept Daughtry around another week or two because my understanding is the top two or 3 finishers end up under contract with them for a longer period of time than the rest. That means 1st refusal if they're shopping labels, and a piece of the profits no matter where they go.

I second that! I have a friend who lives only a few blocks away. We're both overweight, same age and in the same line of work and we used to belong to the same gym. We tried to do the "workout buddy" thing several times in the past. It never worked for longer than a week or two. On days that she was gung ho, I wanted to sleep in, and after work when I was the one who wanted to go, she was tired from working late or whatever. We probbaly skipped more or our planned workouts than we actually made. I found I was better off not depending on someone else to keep me motivated. And now? I hit the gym regularly, I've lost a lot of weight (still have a lot more to go......) and she doesn't get to the gym and is still at least 50 pounds overweight with "excuses" that range from injuries to a busy work schedule and anything in between. I'm not knocking her- getting healthy and in shape has just been more of a priority for me than it has been for her.

I think not only do they manipulate the votes, they disregard them if the results are not what they wanted. Now where's that foil hat????

Refinancing your car? Assuming you bought the car new, you really won't have that many opportunities to do it it the "new car" rate. Paying off a car loan in short period of time (even if it is through a refinance) will actually improve your credit score more than a few inquiries will hurt it.

I am in the area, but I belong to Ballys- sorry. A gym/ workout buddy can be great if you've both got similar goals, schedules and motivation, but they can also be DE-motivating for a lot of different reasons. Right now, my best workout buddy is my iPod and one thing that keeps me on track is a weekly appointment with a trainer (who expects me to workout more than once a week.....) and some group exercise/ dance classes I really enjoy. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, I pretty much always have something "scheduled". That leaves Mondays and the weekends when I am on my own. I've been doing really well about Monday workouts- weekends are tougher, but I'm getting there. At some point, I'll have to let go of the trainer because I really can't afford him, but I hope I'll have learned enough from him and established enough of a habit to keep it up on my own.

I've used different cassettes/ programs in my car from time to time, especially right before one of my Mexican vacations. Since I was alone in my car, I didn't mind listening and repeating, etc. and I found it actually helped with some of the basics and with pronunciation. Of course, right now, the cassette deck in my car is broken and I don't have a CD player for the car. I'm hoping I have the discipline to do this on my computer at home on a regular basis and I'm also hoping the people I share my house with give me enough privacy to do it. I've got dictionaries and workbooks at home but its really difficult to get my head around the grammar and verb tenses, which is the main reason I am trying this method. When you speak English (or whatever your native language is) you don't think about changing to the preterite, plus perfect or whatever tense, you just do it as the situation applies.

OK, I just ordered my set of levels 1,2 &3, Latin American Spanish with my top secret $100.00 off coupon. (thanks for that!) And I'm listening to my new favorite rock en Espanol group Mana to celebrate. These guys are pretty much my favorite band at the moment and listening to their music really helps with learning Spanish too!

For you Sunny?! Of course! But it will be a few weeks at least. I've got "relative work" for the next 2 weekends!

Duuuude................ I don't give out the "benefits" to just anyone. Sorry!

OK, they showed the "I thought he sang twice" moment on the news this morning. My take on it?? Dreadlock boy is her favorite. She saw the dress rehearsal and wanted to give him "notes" BEFORE his 2nd performance which is probably against the rules. And since she is a dizzy drugged out middle aged trick, she could pull it off without looking like she was pulling another "Corey".

Did you even try to do a search for breed specific rescues? I just did a quick one for Bengal cats, and there are a bunch of rescues all over the country for them. Sometimes even the rescues come with papers.... people of all kinds abuse animals, even those loaded enough to spend $1000 on a cat Its not just abuse. Bengals are "trendy" cats right now. People will spend a small fortune on a beautiful "trendy" pet without realizing what it means to own a pet, ANY pet. Then the kitten claws your curtains or hacks up a furball on the suede sofa and she's history. Happens all the time, it even happens with shelter animals.

I've had a lot of cats in my lifetime and I've got 3 now. 2 were given to me by friends who had cats that had a litter of kittens. The 3rd found its way to me after being dumped at the dz and left to fend for himself. Any new feline family members have to be kittens because its just too hard to bring an adult cat into a house with other cats. I've tried- it isn't fair to the "new" cat or my "old" ones. They are much more willing to accept a small kitten.

Burn Your Bras to Prevent Breast Cancer (seriously!)
tigra replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
I wear comfy bras but the 12-13 hours a day that I have them on is enough. They need their freedom! I've got a long commute every day and I hit the gym after work almost every night. I leave my house around 8:00 am and I'm rarely home before 8:30 or 9:00 pm. That's a long time no matter how comfy or how well it fits! -

I'm a HUGE Sex and the City fan but every time I saw Sarah Jessica Parker in bed with her bra on, I just wanted to scream! Who does that????? Shoot, there are plenty of evenings when I am in the process of "liberating" my girls as I am opening the door to my house! -

Well, my girls need support BUT the bra is always the first thing to come off when I get home at night!
