Not that strange to me. I've worked for two companies that routinely stocked the employee fridge with beer and other stuff, but normally it was on a Friday or the last day of the month when we were crazy busy and a little stress relief was in order. Sometimes we all pitched in and one person made a run, other times management bought it . Even if it was delivered at lunch time, we knew enough not to drink until after hours when there were no customers present.

Loose is what your pants are after losing weight... Maybe people are just trying to pry those extra pounds loose from their bodies!
-
Thanks for that one!

For me personally, it took a few months, then one day it was like "Daaayuum, where did that muscle come from?" You notice the weight loss from some "diets" a lot more quickly but I don't think its nearly as gratifying as the increased muscle tone, strength and endurance you get from regular cardio and strength training.

Its just like skydiving- they wouldn't let you do it if it wasn't SAFE, right? (looks like an amazing view, to be honest.........)

I never would have tried banabas with the sweet potatoes it if I hadn't seen it on the Food Network. But, yes, I have to agree, the combo works.

Let's Go, Fitness Kids! 90 Day Challenge...(& March 28-April 3 #'s)

Last year, a good friend at the DZ complimented me on my weight loss but expressed concern that I might lose my boobs. Gotta love skydivers! I can't speak for you, but although mine are slightly smaller, the rest of me is too and everything is still in proportion. I don't think my buddies at the DZ have much to worry about! As far as the "challenge", part of me wants in and part of me thinks it goes against my whole "fitness philosophy" that's been working for me for the past 18 months or so. I'm just trying to implement long term positive changes in my diet and lifestyle so I can actually keep the weight off that I've already lost and continue to lose more because I'm really not where I want to be yet. SOOOOO ........ I know I need to lose more and I know I'm really going to need to make an effort to watch what I eat in order to do that. Anyway, I'm in for 12 pounds. -
I've been making a Tyler Florence recipe for the past two years, but only for Thanksgiving. The sweet potatoes are roasted, along with a few bananas. Then they are all mashed up together with lots of butter and honey and topped with a buttery pecan crumble and baked. Its yummy. When I was a kid, we only had canned sweet potates topped with some sugary marshmellow stuff- NASTY! I didn't even realize I like sweet potates until I tried real ones.

OK, NOT a medical professional but I did have 2 tib/fib fractures with hardware and I had ALL of the hardware removed. It made a HUGE difference. The 2nd time around, I didn't even realize how much the hardware was bothering me until it was removed. Even when I was still swollen and sore form the surgery, I felt relief. And this was just a plate and screws on the fibula side. The first time around, when I was still healing and before I had time to think much about it, my OS suggested that I would want everything removed within two years. His logic was that I was relatively young, healthy and active and I would see a benefit from hardware removal. Also, he said bone doesn't grow where the metal is but will grow back once it is removed and bone is better than metal in the long run. Well, as soon as the cast was off and the swelling went down, the screws in my fibula were visible and the ones deeper inside my tibia were painful- talk about a barometer! He took everything out a little over a year after the break and the "barometer" in my ankle went away and I regained probably 99% of my ROM. Its been almost 10 years and if I didn't have the scars, I wouldn't know I broke it. 2nd time around, I had "temporary" screws that had to come out and when he took those out, I begged him to remove the vertical screws in my tibia because they felt like railroad spikes driving up into my leg with virtually every step I took. It was a different doctor and he thought it was too soon to remove everything but when he checked the Xray, he decided my bone had healed enough. He left the plate and screws on the fibula side, but I ended up having them taken out 18 months later. Bottom line- for me- hardware removal made a HUGE difference. The 2nd time around, I was getting by OK with the plate and screws in my fibula, but I could still feel it. Its kind of funny, because that doctor initially really didn't think hardware removal would make a big difference and when I went for the follow up visit post surgery and told him how much better my ankle felt, his comment was "I'm not surprised, those screws were digging into your nerves and tendons!" He really changed his tune. Oh yeah, and no trace of arthritis in either ankle! I started working out pretty regularly about 18 months ago and at first, the more recently injured ankle (2003) bothered me a little bit but now that its better conditioned, there's no pain, no limitation I can see at all.

Yeah, at least 400 calories and having a TON of fun while you are burning them. Sweating, yes, but dancing and laughing too. I can burn more on the elliptical but it isn't half as much fun. Anyway, I hope your class is as much fun as mine was. I've got a really good teacher; I actually drive a bit out of my way just to take her classes. -

My latin cardio teacher is going to start offering that on a more regular basis too. She did one Hip Hop class last month and it was so much fun! Burned a LOT of calories too- at least 400 in one hour. (I've got one of those heart rate monitor watches that can track calories too!) -

I'm the opposite. I love working out now, and really miss it when I don't make it to the gym for a few days. But DAYUM........... I love to eat! And I love to eat food that isn't good for me. But I am slowly getting back into mostly eating salads for lunch and cutting back on the candy and snacks and that really does help. Like Jaye, I've got a bit of a sugar addiction and once you start back to eating the junk, it can really snowball! -
Thanks for sharing.

Wow- I don't think there is anything healthy about the diet you described, or losing 20 pounds in 30 days- not unless he was under a doctor's supervision the whole time. Yikes! (On the other hand, I could buy a lot of sessions with my trainer for $1,000.00 but he'd be a little upset when I passed out in the middle of a workout!) -

Thanks Sunny! That's definitely one of my goals. That, a nice bootie and a flat tummy. My trainer (plus all the squats and lunges.....) is helping with the bootie but I've still got a way to go with the rest. -
I thought Sunny didn't normally wear undies ......... Bolas is probably going commando.

Kids are not expelled and/or arrested across the country on a daily basis for taking aspirin or having butter knives in their cars. The post would have a lot more merit if they were. As it stands, it is just as reactionary and ridiculous as the actions it attempts to ridicule and protest. And YES, for the record, I do agree it is ridiculous to expel a kid for bringing a couple of aspirin into school.
-
The problem is that while it claims/ attempts to criticize society for becoming too "reactionary", the post itself is "reactionary" and sites over-exaggerated examples and scenarios to support a ridiculous claim that laws against child abuse and bringing drugs and weapons into schools are somehow wrong. How's that? We read about the honor student who gets expelled for bringing aspirin to school but the story about the kid who OD'd in the bathroom isn't newsworthy.

Upper body last night with the trainer. Ouch! But in a good way! You know, I get frustrated because I feel like my upper body especially is pretty weak, but when I compare the stuff he's got me doing now to when we started 6 months ago, there is a pretty significant improvement. Still a long way to go, but definite improvement. A question for the ladies- how many of you can do unassisted pull ups and dips? I can't, never really could and its one of my goals, but I never see women doing those at the gym, only the guys. So is that even a realistic goal? -
if kids dressed like the thugs im referring too in my other post in 1967, they would have been taken out back behind the school and had respect beaten into them... Still not seeing the point? What is the difference between 1967 and 2007 in your scenarios ... laws. Butters, just consider the source walk away and shake your head. Seriously, that's about all you can do. This post is such pure BS it isn't even worth the time to type out a reply. I'm sure she just copied and pasted some email that was forwarded to her and about 100 other people by some co-worker or aquaintance.

Happy b-day! You made it in spite of yourself, huh???

OK, I'll briefly add to the hijack............. Does your vet sell the Royal Canin brand of prescription food? I've got cats, not dogs but in the past they've been on two different kinds of Hill's prescription diets and I always had a hard time getting them to eat it. They responded much better to the Royal Canin. end hijack.............

I had a cat who used to love to sleep on top of a book shelf. He'd lean over and hack all over anything and everything. We called him the acuracy hacker! One thing that always amazes me about cats is how neat and fastidious they can be about their litter boxes and food, yet they will hack anywhere and actually seem to avoid throwing up on anything that is easily cleaned. Try catching them right when they are about to puke and putting a newspaper or paper towel underneath them- I know mine will turn their heads and deliberatey miss the towel!

Don't beat yourself up over a weekend of indulgence. You're in this for the long haul, remember? If you can't treat yourself every now and then what's the point? That being said- step away from the Krispy Kremes. They only make you feel good for a little while, anyway. (I could go for one right now, though! Good thing there aren't any Krispy Kreme locations anywhere near me right now!) And feel better. Seems like everyone around me is fighting off some kind of bug, myself included. Gotta love our non-existent Midwest spring!
