  1. Yup- not all ARM loans are evil and there is a place for them in the market. These days people tend to confuse the more conventional ARMs like yours with the less conventional ARMs- the ones where the interest rate adjusts more frequently than the minimum required payment. Those are the ones that can get you in trouble when you aren't paying attention.
  2. Dayuummmmmmmmmm! Talk about tough love here!
  3. I hear ya! My workouts are helping me maintain my current weight but unless/ until I start cutting calories and paying more attention to what I eat, I won't lose any more. I am comfortable with my body and my size right now and I'm happy with my workouts but I would still like to lose a little more weight and get my body fat % into a healthier range. Truthfully, most of my weight loss was through diet (and not healthy sensible dieting either) before I started working out seriously- I couldn't have worked out the way I do now eating as little as I did those first few months. So I'm actually happy with maintaining my weight and building and toning muscles without starving or depriving myself. Plus, I've kept the weight off for almost 2 years now and I feel like I might have finally broken that whole cycle of losing then regaining the weight (and then some) that I've been on my whole adult life! I guess that's my way of saying don't beat yourself up too bad and don't starve yourself. You ARE making progress, its just slower than you want it to be. I've also read that its normal to lose a lot of weight early on then level off for several months before you start losing again.
  4. I had an upper body workout with the trainer last night and man oh man did I feel PATHETIC! He said it was an especially hard workout and he was also "testing" me, but there was more than one instance when I could not BUDGE the weight he started with at all! I hate it when he has to drop the weight for me! Still, keeping things in perspective, I doubt I could have done half as much just a couple of months ago. I need to work my upper body a little harder between personal training sessions though. I can do a pretty good leg workout on my own, but I'm less focused with my upper body workouts. And time to 'fess up- the July 4th goal? I'm exactly where I was at when we started!

    Wife is pissed!!

Why not just ask her what's bothering her so much?

    Wife is pissed!!

Just a thought but maybe she'd prefer you spend the vacation days and money on something the two of you can do together. Or does she get to spend a ton of money doing her own "thing" with her friends while you stay home with the kids? All joking aside, I know plenty of happily married male skydivers with wives who don't jump. Female jumpers with whuffo boyfriends and husbands- not so many .........
  7. Well, I finally made a jump yesterday, and aside from a funnelled exit, it went really well. No fall rate issues, no struggling. I was able to just relax and fly my slot instead of fighting gravity. Not a big deal for a lot of people, but I've had fall rate issues since I started jumping 12 years ago. Usually, I'm concentrating so hard on not sinking out of a formation. And last year, I had to adjust to flying at a lower weight and being "floaty." Anyway, its nice finally being comfortable enough in my body to just fly it- I feel like I spent a long time fighting my body and trying to fly in spite of it if that makes any sense at all! Yeah, I still have work to do; its just nice to see it paying off in different ways!
  8. Kudos for not b*tchslapping him. Now you know he's an ignorant insensitive prick. I've experienced similar comments from co-workers in the past. Its hard to walk away and keep your mouth shut but sometimes that's the best option in the long run. He's shown his true colors and he's really not worth your time and definitely not worth getting upset over.
  9. 0-1-0 I'm "current" again- my last jump was in August. Wish I could have made a few more but the winds were funky and weather was moving in. Sure did feel nice to get my knees in the breeze again though! Thanks Betzilla, Sara, Deb and Phil for helping me get back in the air!
  10. Did you read the article? It was a MONTH long contest, not an April Fools joke that lasted a day!
  11. I was laughing at the whole "Toy Yoda" thing but really, how did they think they could call a month long contest an April Fools joke and get away with it? Not to mention publicly humiliating one of your employees? Bad juju! I'm glad she stood up for herself and at least got a car out of it.
  12. There's no telling what she had to do to win that contest! lol
  13. I agree with all this but even the OP said it wasn't really about the gum. It was about having a thief in the office, which really does suck. Of course there isn't any way of knowing if the petty gum thief is also stealing purses or whatever else is turning up missing in the office. I leave a pack of gum on my desk, I don't care if someone takes a piece, but taking the whole pack is just wrong!
  14. In my experience, when there have been theft issues at work, when and if the theif was caught, it was an employee and not part of the cleaning crew. (And of course, everyone accused the cleaning crew first!) That's anything from lunches out of the fridge to purses and cameras inside someone's desk. Or, just recently, a stack of money orders someone had just purchased to pay her bills with. We don't want to believe that someone we see and talk to almost everyday is stealing from us. Something else to think about- anyone willing to steal from a co-worker won't think twice about stealing directly from the company.
  15. Everyone always wants to blame the cleaning crew but chances are, its someone you work with, see and talk to everyday. You're lucky its only a pack of gum! I hate thieves in general but the ones who look you in the eye and smile at you are the worst! They just canned someone here for stealing from a co-worker. The theft happened a few months ago and she probably thought she was in the clear, but the dumbass stole money orders that can be traced. They're keeping it quiet around here but I hope the &*^%$ goes to jail.
  16. I didn't misunderstand. There's a difference between quietly having a beer away from the skydiving activities and busting open a cooler full of them in the hangar or parking lot while they are still sending loads up. (and a gray area in between) As John pointed out, some dzs are a lot more strict about enforcing the "beerlight" than others. I know that when Roger Nelson was designing the "new" SDC, he put a little distance between the campground and the hangar for a reason and it wasn't so we'd get more exercise!
  17. I hear you! I'm totally enjoying the weight training that I am doing, but its also a relatively new thing for me. I think if it was ALL I was doing, it might get old, but the Zumba and other classes I squeeze in keep the workouts fun and productive.
  18. For God sakes! - beer is to this sport as the Holy Grail is to Catholicism... Why would this DZO tell you not to drink beer at a DZ?... careful, your newbiness is showing! Beer after hours is cool. Visible beer in or near the hangar during the day when there is at least the possibility of getting another load up is generally frowned upon. The GKs of course can do what they want!
  19. Do you need another pep talk? First of all, it does take time to actually see results but that doesn't mean changes aren't happening throughout your body. That's especially true when you are doing any kind of strength training. The changes are gradual. Just remember that you ARE doing good things for yourself and keep it up! 2nd- other people will see the results before you do. You tend to look in the mirror and see yourself a certain way and that's not necessarily the way other people see you. We all do that to one extent or another. Speaking for myself, when I was heavier, I didn't really see exactly how fat I was and now that I've lost some weight, at times when I see a recent picture, it takes a minute to realize that's me. 3rd- there is nothing humiliating about working at your own level. Having EMTs cart you out of a cardio class because you over did it- well, I personally would find that a bit humiliating! Slowing down to a walk or march, getting water and mopping your face as needed should not be cause for humiliation! Its not a competition and comparing yourself to everyone else is counter productive. OK pep talk over! carry on..................
  20. Had a KILLER leg workout with my trainer last night and the soreness is just starting to set in! Another milestone- he added extra weight to the leg press and now I'm pressing about 25% MORE than my body weight.
  21. Just a few minutes, really. You can do it online or over the phone with a credit card, and the DZ can easily verify your membership with a phone call if you don't have the USPA membership card handy.
  22. I'm not sure what you mean by that, but alright. You find it creepy that someone can use photoshop well and created a mugshot for a celebrity? The picture of a battered woman is creepy. The fact that you would use your time and "talents" to create it is not surprising. Clear? I'm sorry girl you need to go check your panties. Personally I felt the picture was worth the effort. She doesn't look battered, she looks beat the fuck up! Now go make me a sammich and don't you put no fucking mayonnaise on it either! Miracle Whip! No twists or bunches, and while it may be a nice job with photoshop, its still creepy. And for the record, I'm pretty sure "battered" and "beat up" are pretty much the same thing. Oh, and miracle whip is gross!

  24. Considering the source, the picture doesn't surprise me at all but personally, I find it creepy as well.
