Ummmm, Did you happen to see Billy Weber, by any chance? He was organinizing low to mid level jumpers all weekend long, he's been doing that at SDC since the beginning of July. I think there was at least one other RW organizer besides Billy who was not working with the 2 plane shots, although it is true one organizer they expected did not show up. Maybe they could have set it up better or used a sign up board like they do in the freefly area, but that's never really been necessary before. As I walked through the hangar, I saw plenty of RW jumpers in smaller groups dirtdiving and post diving. I did notice the Casa did not get used much over the weekend. Possibly because they were using the otters for the big ways? I don't know what to say about that. As far as the $14.00 jumps- some people prepaid for their jumps at the beginning of the year to get a discount, but SDC can only be expected to honor that discount on their own planes. Maybe that wasn't explained to you properly. Was that gouda or cheddar?

Well, I'm glad he's got a good home lined up, but I kind of hope you keep him, and I bet Pie does too! (even if it does make your house a little crowded!) Just keep on giving him that special Michele brand of TLC and he'll be healthy and chubby in no time!

Michele, He's just beautiful! Will you keep him?

Hey you SDCers! How long did AFP take you??
tigra replied to Jeth's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Jeth, I did mine in about 6 weeks, including my first tandem. This was a few years ago and the program was a little different- I had to do 3 tandems and 15 AFP jumps. I'd go out every weekend and made 2-3 jumps each time I was out. Even though money is an issue, I strongly recommend making at least 2 jumps in a day, 3 would be even better. (any more than 3 might be overload- just my opinion......) The first jump of the day you'll be dealing with jitters and trying to remember what you learned the last time you were out. By the second jump, you'll have settled down a bit and things will start to sink in and click a little bit better! When I was a student, my second jump of the day was always my best. Good luck to you! maura -
Sun Path grounds Javelins with adjustable MLW
tigra replied to kallend's topic in Safety and Training
Agreed, 100%. I also think SunPath needs to do a little more about this particular issue. -

I believe the rigs were regularly and thoroughly inspected. Assuming otherwise would be a potentially fatal mistake, in my opinion. -
No problem- its one of my favorite little stores, but I don't get there all that often. I found their address- 4712 N. Lincoln Avenue Chicago, Il 60625 (773)728-3600 There's actually a lot of cool shops on that block.

Gallimaufry Gallery on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago has a lot of really beautiful and unique jewelry. Local designers, etc. Its a great store!

Funny Hypothetical Skydive Situation – What Would You Do?
tigra replied to bvsdjumper's topic in The Bonfire
Actually, there is a cameraman who can do live air to ground video. I've seen it. Funny story, though. -
If you don't want to jump with him because you feel he is dangerous, you should tell him. If enough people tell him that, he'll either get the message and do something about it or move on and become another dz's problem. And if its just a matter of having your dive planned out and knowing its beyond his skill level, why not also be honest? BUT- make an effort to make an easier jump with him later. Someone had to do that for you, right?

Children and disapline-Iron hand vs Velvet Glove
tigra replied to mardigrasbob's topic in The Bonfire
Well, if she spanks him and it gets caught on video, she just might lose custody of her kid. Didn't that just happen a year or so ago in Indiana? -
I've been called for jury duty twice and that's very similar to my experience! In addition to reading, we got to watch soap operas!

Habits from skydiving that cross-over to other areas of life?
tigra replied to HeatherB's topic in The Bonfire
When someone farts I automatically say "Smells like jump run!" -
I love my Zute Sute! My first 2 suits were Tony's and they were OK, but nothing compared to my Zute. The fit is perfect and the suit has a lot of range. Also, its very durable and the colors hold up when you wash the suit. Jenny's very picky about her materials.

You implied that the girl flashing at the party and getting ready to have sex with more than one guy was somehow accepted and popular in this day and age, and that the acceptance of that kind of behavior leads to more women being unfaithful to their husbands later in life. True enough there would be guys willing to take advantage, but the girl would no more accepted today than she would have been 20 years ago. Other girls would still look down on her and so would the guys who slept with her. That was my point.
-
Although its been awhile since I've been at a frat party, I have to disagree with your analogy! Even though women do have more sexual freedom these days, and tend to stay single longer (racking up more partners) a "Hoe" is still a "Hoe". Girls who behave as you describe at a frat party, or girls with multiple sexual partners are still looked down upon and labeled as sluts, even by the guys who enjoy them! A guy who sleeps around is still considered by many to be a "stud"! That has not changed much in the past 20-30 years!

0:4:0 Great weekend, but funky winds kept me on the ground Sunday and the rain kept me grounded on Saturday. But I made 4 fun jumps yesterday and had a great weekend!

Scott Miller's Canopy Control Course
tigra replied to jblooming's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I also took the class last weekend, and I think its a great class and a great idea. We had a wide experience range in our class- 30 something to over 2000 jumps with one common goal of wanting to be safer under canopy. I think we all took something away from the class. 4 of us in my group actually took the same class last fall. Well worth the time and money. -
I've done the acrylic nails, they look nice and if they're done right, they even look natural, but they are soooooo bad for your nails. And I can easily bite my real nails under the acrylics! Also, not all nail salons are created equal, you know? I've been to some bad ones, but fortunately never had any serious problems! Anyway, I just took off a set of acrylic nails and I'm going to try really hard to let my real nails grow a bit and get healthy again- they look awful right now! I've heard that having regular manicures helps- we'll see. I've never been one to gnaw them down to the quick, but my nails are so thin and weak that they break and split as they start to grow. That's when I bite them! It sure would be nice to have pretty, REAL nails!

Its my home dz. Of course I'll be there! Be prepared for an awesome fireworks show and an all around great weekend! maura (I'll be the hideously color coordinated belly flyer in red, black and white.......)

Oh my! I hope the higher powers forgive my lapse in judgement! What I mean to say was, how awful of that DZ to be closed over 4th of July Weekend! I certainly hope your whuffo friends appreciate what you gave up for them! Hey, its a long weekend and you've got your A! I'm sure there's an open dz within driving distance! Hop in your car and go!
-
Hi Joe, This may sound like blasphemy BUT there are other things in life beside skydiving! Hard as it is to believe right now, there may even come a time when you enjoy an occasional weekend away from the dz. For now, I hope you survive the withdrawal pains for yet another weekend!
-
It WAS a great weekend! I didn't get to play with the girls on Saturday because I was taking Scott Miller's canopy control class (again...). But the class was great and well worth my time and money. (Thanks Betzilla, for loaning me your pretty new rig, too!) So 5 H&Ps Saturday and 2 fun RW dives Sunday where I had to dive and swoop! Woo Hoo! Big fun! We had the Suger Gliderz flying RW with us! And they totally rocked! I hope we have a few more "girlie" weekends this summer! Val- it was great jumping with you too- don't be such a stranger! So how does this work? ; 7; and maybe one virtual case since this is my first time posting to the Weekend numbers thread. maura

I don't think its uncommon to battle depression while you are recovering from an injury, and I can respect that you are trying the more natural approach. If I were you, I'd talk to your doctor about it and see what he/ she suggests- maybe you need to medicate, maybe you don't. Being aware that the problem potentially exists is a good first step. I'd also make an effort to get out of the house as much as is physically possible. When I broke my right ankle, I couldn't drive, but I had good friends and a decent "support system" at home. Bar hopping and parties weren't feasible, but I could still go out to dinner or have a drink, or just hang out a friend's house. Wherever I went, we'd just make sure I had a chair for myself and one for my leg! And if I wasn't comfortable, I'd go home. Since I have a desk job, I was also able to go back to work fairly quickly. I sincerely believe keeping myself busy and getting out of the house kept me sane for those first few weeks! Good luck to you and keep on healing! maura
