Cats are very vain animals (every cat I've ever had has been anyway). To deliberately make them look ridiculous for your own amusement is cruel. You said yourself, Max did not like it at all! What he did is not the same as trimming or shaving to help them cope with extremely hot temperatures or to get rid of mats. Even posing the cat for the original picture was mean, but some cats tolerate that kind of thing better than others and it was probably only for a few minutes anyway!

Bo- yes, I'm downtown too! LaSalle and Washington. I've met eeneR for lunch a few times since she started working downtown. Some days I can get away no problem, other days I'm chained to my desk waiting for money or documents! Tomorrow looks like its going to be one of those days! maura

The difference is, the picture Skymama posted was a joke and the cat wasn't really shaved. Its wearing some kind of nylon body suit. Your buddy was cruel to do that to his cat, and he probably should not be allowed to have pets!

I'll have lunch with you eeneR, but tomorrow doesn't look good! Next week???

If you can't quit cold turkey, have you tried any of the low carb options? There's actually a lot of decent sugar free products out there. (Yes, some are nasty and I hear too much Splenda or maltilol will give you the runs, but in moderation.....) The Russell Stouver low carb chocolates are really good- OK, they aren't Godiva, but they do taste like real chocolate! Sugar is addictive for me. The more I have, the more I crave!

I'm jealous. I was only in New Orleans once, for about a week, and I can honestly say I don't think I had a bad meal there! Be prepared to loosen yur belt a notch or two! I soooooooooooo need to go back one of these days! This thread is making me hungry. Not food related, but if you're into that sort of thing, I took a cemetary tour from the Voodoo museum. It was fascinating- got a lot of local history and took a walk through the big cemetary. And this IS food related. I don't know if they still do it, but I took a half day cooking class also- learned how to make gumbo, jambalaya and bread pudding. Never got the hang of the pralines, although I still have the recipe! That was offered through a cooking supply store (the New Orleans equivalent of a Williams Sonoma?) near the waterfront if I'm not mistaken. It was a while ago, but it was a surprisingly fun thing to do! (And we got a good meal out of it too!) Oh, and take a street car through the garden district! We also went to the aquarium- that was great! And we did a bayou tour as well. Wow, I really need to go back!

4 Way advanced just got a little more interesting.
tigra replied to Islandcool's topic in The Bonfire
I think the problem was not the it was undefined- "single file" should be self explanatory- the problem was that it was inconsistently enforced, as has been the problem many times in many different events at past Nationals. (Am I wrong?) (And I know it wasn't your team!) This year, the "rules" so far seem to have been consistently enforced even though the outcome seems pretty harsh to me. -

Like the old single file rule in 10 way? -
That's a great price for a helicopter jump. I've only made one, and it was great, but honestly, a helicopter RIDE with a good pilot is potentially a lot more fun- the jump is over so fast! Sorry to blaspheme!

Kerry supporters owe Fox News for cutaway shots
tigra replied to likearock's topic in Speakers Corner
So we can thank Fox for being able to see our President act like an ass on national tv? Sorry, I think you're giving them way too much credit. -
Didn't Drew Carey invent that?

How much to tip for my AFF course???
tigra replied to Terminal-V's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Do you tip other teachers? Tipping is not necessary and you're spending a small fortune to do AFF as it is. There are other ways to show appreciation- beer, homemade cookies, pizza- all of that would be appreciated. I think *most* AFF instructors would prefer you spend your money on more jumps! And remember, if you do want to do something nice for the people who are helping you through your AFF progression, don't forget the manifesters and everyone else who helps out in one way or another! -
Sorry- I tuned in for the first episode and that was it! Glad to hear I'm not missing anything!

What makes a good tandem student?
tigra replied to Spudmuffin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I can't really help much because arching is one thing I've never had a problem with. I needed to train myself to relax my arch! -
What makes a good tandem student?
tigra replied to Spudmuffin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Most of my tandem master friends are just happy to have a student who arches and doesn't puke on them! -
They essentially posted an explanation and apology to this thread back in August. What exactly were they supposed to do for you? Get over it already!

Its not exactly about fear, but I read a book called Learning to Fly which was written by a man who took up trapeze flying late in life- in his 60s? I think. Very inciteful and well written! In the book SeaBiscuit, there's also a section that talks about how dangerous it was (and still is) to be a jockey and the way the jockeys handled their fear and dealt with accidents. Very interesting, and I found myself relating some of it to skydiving.

Like Quade said, he doesn't like to do what other people tell him to do! He had the earpiece but didn't listen to 100% of what his advisers told him to say! Makes perfect sense to me!

That's exactly what my hairdresser would recommend to me under those circumstances. I've known him a long time and he told me once if I went in there demanding a radical change, he'd probably make me think about it for a week first! Windcatcher, you seem to really like your long hair, so think carefully before you make any decisions!

I know I'm going to be flamed for this, but that wouldn't surprise me in the least. The technology is out there. In fact, as I was watching, I thought he must have had someone speaking to him in an earpiece or something similar. He didn't bother to take any notes, he hesitated and spoke very slowly. Everytime the camera panned to him while Kerry was speaking, he was fidgeting and making faces. The only thing that would surprise me is if it was a 2 way system that allowed him to talk back to the people on the other end! Flame away!

Well, the line DOES need to be drawn somewhere. I believe on one recent record, the amount of people who were comped and the resulting EXTRA cost to those who were not was a little outrageous. No, I wasn't there, but its something I heard from more than one participant and invitee who declined because of the cost.

Definitely talk to a medical professional, but Morcyk is right about the potential consequences of skydiving if you are seeking legal action against the person who hit you. 2 separate issues, really.
