Why not Kansas? Blues, Dave Yeah, why not? They're the only other one loss team left. Although they lost last week, so did LSU. However, look what LSU did this year, they went 6-1 against ranked opponents. Kansas's schedule was nowhere near that strong. Not Georgia or Kansas as they did not win a conference championship, which I think really should be a must to even get to the "Ship" game. Besides they announced a few minutes ago, Ohio State vs. LSU.... Looks like OSU is going get the crap kicked out of them this year again by the SEC. Mind you, I am a Hokie but no matter how I looked at it, starting the weekend ranked 1 spot higher and given they (Hokies) won the ACC, LSU Kicked the living crap out of the Hokies and as much as I hate to say it are probably the team that should be there. I think USC v LSU might be a better game but it is what it is.. I have to say I like the match Up between Hokies v Kansas, GO HOKIES! Win and get a final ranking of #2 for 2007 season Scott C. Sustained is really speculative as you can see from the posts. Personally I think sustained should basically be the average of the entire flight on a full altitude junmp. Data that has been posted from altitrack or other sources shows vastly ranging fall speeds on a single jump at different points. That has to be based on a huge variety of factors. The biggest influence I have noticed involves diving, i.e. to a formation leaving late. You get way more forward speed then you normally get diving and then the stop or flare or going flat (what ever you want to call it) the speed translates to more lift and a slower fall rate but it is going to give a false or artificial non-sustainable fall rate. As you slow down forward you will start falling faster. A good average for the entire flight seems to be the best for sustained compared to short bursts of VERY SLOW fall rates. An entire flight of 25mph average with very rough math kinda pencils out as follows: assuming the free fall from 12K at 120mph is about 1 minute you would get close to 5min of free fall time at a sustained 25mph fall rate. If you jump from a lower altitude to max out slow speed due to fatigue, clouds whatever GREAT!! but it would fall into the category of manipulated data in my eyes. You are not showing sustained data. The trick is then to establish a criteria for measurement. 10K fine, 12K fine but some standard should be set so the comparison is apples to apples! Also one and done does not count. In science you need a set of 3 runs to get a statistically valid result. The more the better but generally 3 experimental runs is the statistical min.. Until some standard is set and people follow it and show statistically valid data it is hard to say anything other then Great job on that jump.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

I acquired a nice 31-15 head and table with motor. The table and head are nice but the motor needs to be re-wired. The motor works but the wiring is a bit scary and I don't want to plug it in again till I get it re-done. I was looking on line for some info regarding a wiring diagram.. Anybody have one or any info. I also looked for a manual just to have access to one. I know how to run the unit but it is nice to have a manual now and then. It also might have the wiring diagram. The motor is noted on the placard to be a Singer "CAT SA 930" It has a 1/5 HP 1725 RPM. If anybody knows where to download a manual or knows about a wiring diagram please let me know. Thanks Scott C. I can relate. I ran CC in High School and in one race back in Charlottesville, Virgina it was really hot. I don't remember but apparently I collapsed with Heat Exhaustion about 100 yards from the finish, I guess I should have had more water. Mind you I don't remember really anything from the later part of the race and was told I fell, got up fell again and then started crawling towards the line. When you run in a competitive situation, or just are a competitive person, it really seems to be able to take over your thinking. I guess after not having thought about it for 20 years I am pissed that the bastards pulled me off the course.. How dare they, I could have crawled to the finish if the broken leg runner could. I am going to file a post race protest! Hope she is OK though.. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

He looks to have been kicked pretty far forward and up as you can see his legs/legs wing up towards the canopy, maybe a head low full flight pitch??. He went back down so I don't think it was a flip through but at about the 16 second mark you can see what looks like the right arm and wing stuck in the right riser. If this is the case then it would explain the radical turn to the right and hard time cutting away. The video shows the cut away and the left riser go but hanging from the right riser with the arm at 34 seconds. At 45 seconds you can see the left hand working hard on the right wing release as I imaging the tension would be like a twisted riser with out inserts. From that time to about 1:04 you sporadically see the tries at getting that arm released and at the noted time he looks to go to Belly to earth and then you see the reserve open with twists and the main going away. Twists are out about 1:12 then it looks like he is doing something with the left arm zipper but stops, and releases the breaks at 1:16 with a landing at 1:22. Basically a sub 20 second reserve with the last 9-10 sec being a flying non-twisted reserve. I am curious as to the main and container system. If there was a RSL it was luckily on the right riser as the outcome could have been much worse if the reserve fired into the still caught main, maybe it would have cleared maybe not. It really makes you think. I dont think an AAD would have helped as it might not have fired under those circumstances. It would depend on the canopy. The video is not great so it is hard to really see everything but it is a point of view shot. FANTASTIC job of doing the #1 thing you have to do in any jump, NEVER GIVE UP... It really hammers home the thought "it ain't over till the sudden stop at the end!!" I also hope that the video shows that a WS jump is not a basic normal run of the mill jump, stuff can happen and when it does it happens FAST!! I a a firm believer that experience can help. I have no idea if the jumper was one with 100/200/1000 or 2000+ jumps but the more more experience one has the more you have to draw from to identify and react. The video makes you think! Scott C. How About Cutting SKYRIDE Some Slack?
sdctlc replied to skypapa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have to say, I think the "Concept" of a booking agency makes sense and could be very good thing for Skydiving as a whole... Now what SkyRide has done with this good concept in terms of stealing pictures to create non-existent dropzones has stepped over the line. Combine that with some less then desirable methods for actually providing a fair value on a jump certificate in a reasonable proximity to the buyer, that leaves something to be desired as well. I know this last statment to be factual as I have seen jumpers who traveled a good distance past 2 Dropzones they did not know existed to get the the Skyride DZ. They were not happy paying almost 2X as much for the jump compared to others on the load which was painfully obvious to them based on what was freely noted on the rate board at the DZ... I had to listen to the DZO explain to the Skyride certificate holders that they basically are getting the tandem for the same price as anyone else and that the extra fee was the cost charged to them by the booking agent for their services. The concept could work as it is being proven popular by Skyride. Just look at the number of Skyride certificates on E-bay at any given time I think it is hard to deny that the implementation is suspect. It is along the lines of a chairty that spouts off about the good the money donated will do but in actuality more of it goes to the company soliciting for the donations then to the charity. If you loved those here is one you might enjoy. Did you get the higher res copy to make that poster for your self. Also I would hate to leave Monkey out of the loop either.. What days are people going to be there? I am trying to get my plans set and still coordinate with the family a bit. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

There is a good number of things to do. I personally love the museum of Flight at Boeing field. You have the Space Center area. Depending on time a drive to Ranier or St. Helen's. Ferry ride. Seattle Art museum (SAM) Seattle Aquarium. Underground tour, safe co field tour (that is fun) or the Qwest Stadium Tour. Couple of nice golf courses in the area the city runs. http://www.cityofseattle.net/tour/default.htm It will depend on time you have and what you like. I like the Museum of Flight though if you just have an afternoon or the Space needle though it is not going to take as much time as the MOF Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

I prefer Top mount and use a Full BatRack helmet for my set up. It is a XT and the HC40. I know people that run them as side mounts and don't have any issues. I seem to remember that someone noted that the ports on the HC series camera was opposite of some previous cameras. To have the LANC port to the outside it would need to go on the right side of the helmet. It does not bother me with a top mount. I have not looked at E-bay in the last few days but I just checked and there are a number of camera in the upper 100's to low 200's. Price seems to be slightly higher this week but still in the range I mentioned mostly. I am guessing if it holds true to form with Ebay, if you don't see something that you like wait a few days and some new options will come up. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

He lost my vote when he mentioned God. Church and State are supposed to be separate. They all seem to pontificate about God to some degree. Obamma talks about God a fair bit and is pandering to a demographic he is trying to win votes from but does not get lambasted in the media for it like the GOP candidates do. Go figure. If the Equation is "God Talk" = "$" then the candidates will do it. The "God" demographic is big and dont be fooled that it is limited to hard core far right, that would simply be foolish.. Scott C. A good option available on E-bay for under $200 (more like $150) would be the HC30/32/40/42 Sony models. I have seen both Used and "fresh" factory refurbs in that range. Ritz has been on there with a factory reconditioned unit for something like $229 Buy it now bu it is higher then some of the others. I have been using a HC40 for top mount (in bonehead box) and for Hand Cam. the camera has lasted with no problems for well over 2.5 years and gives a good output. It is small and has a LANC port. Are there more expensive cameras out there, sure but the quality I get out of my HC40 is never in question and at the price you can get one these days it is hard to say you can go wrong. just my $0.02 Scott C. 2007 Dropzone.com/Skydive Arizona Holiday Boogie
sdctlc replied to bbarnhouse's topic in Events & Places to Jump
It sounds as if you could complete your A in a weekend. If you have ~20 + jumps then the trick is if you just need to get a few more in terms of numbers OR if your card is not very well filled out. If it is the former call some DZ's and see if they can assist and head South. Even with the bad weather you have about a month and a half to get the required few jumps in by the time Eloy rolls around at you home DZ unless they shut down for the winter. That is if your willing to wait out the weather and take some days at the DZ not jumping to get it done. I don't know the status of training at Eloy but I would guess during a boogie it would be tough to do it unless you were there early and had arranged ahead of time. Good luck though and keep jumping.
