0-8-5 At The Boogie in Richmond, IN, including five in Mike Mullin's King Air, so far my favorite jump plane with a small door. Oh hell, that's a lie. I like the good old C-182. Have you read "Far Journeys" by Robert A. Monroe? "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Find a dropzone (probably a small "Cessna" dropzone--that is, one that has one or two C-182s ) that does not charge for coach jumps. I'm a coach, and I will never charge for a coach jump. That's the policy at my DZ. We're in it for the fun. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." You are in charge of license requirements for USPA. What changes would you make, if any, and why? "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Should D license requirements be changed?
Croc replied to Croc's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This thread has failed to generate the kind of discussion I was hoping for so I am starting a new related thread. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy -

You are mistaken if you think that all humans have poor night vision. Most young people have very good night vision. And I am over it, thanks. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy -
Should D license requirements be changed?

Well, your're right, I don't know anything about swooping. Just thought there might be some better requirements for a D license than a jump most people will never do again. Should D license requirements be changed?
Croc replied to Croc's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I probably won't get a D as I most likely will not do any night jumps (poor night vision) and I will not get a waiver. I am satisfied with my license. Is it whining to suggest that of all the possible requirements for an expert license a jump is selected that to many jumpers is totally irrelevant? I don't think so! I just wanted to see what other people thought about night jumps. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Should D license requirements be changed?
Croc replied to Croc's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
With the different areas that skydivers can go into these days, perhaps the definition of an "expert" skydiver should be changed. For example, a jumper who wants to swoop may have difficulty meeting the accuracy requirements for a D license, but if he or she can consistently land a parachute at 50 mph, isn't that a demonstration of expert skill? Or take CReW. I know many D licensed jumpers who have never docked under canopy and never will. Doesn't a CReW four stack demonstrate expert skill? The particular requirement that is hanging me up is the night jump. Does that actually demonstrate skill, or does it merely demonstrate good vision? Is a wing suit flyer who has never done a night jump more skilled than a similiarly qualified jumper who has done a night jump but never done a wing suit jump? What do you think? Thanks, that's what I wanted to know. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

You listed shooting as one of your interests, and you have not heard of the Ruger mini-14? What do you shoot? "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Anyone have experience with preban magazines for the mini-14? I heard that the larger magazines don't work in the mini-30, and was wondering about the mini-14. (30 rounders, anyhow.) Thanks. Balloon, helicopter and jet were all cool, but my first crew dock was by far the best jump I've made. Looking down and seeing a dude hanging from the A-lines that your feet are hooked around is awesome, particularly since only moments before you were sure that it was going to end in a wrap! Thanks Ray! "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Do you enjoy being treated like a customer, or would you rather be treated like a friend? At what point do you stop being a consumer of skydiving educational products and start being one of the guys? (or gals?) This trend, to turn every new jumper into and endless source of revenue, will ultimately kill this sport. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Thunderstorms and tornado warnings are common in the midwest this time of year. I went to the WFFC this year and so did many of my friends. I didn't hear any negative reports except that it rained a bit more than usual. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." 3 required tandem jumps, $85 for a coach jump that doesn't include gear rental??? Girl you gots to get to a friendlier DZ TODAY! "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Pay for packing class? Dues? Where are you guys jumping? Go to a small Cessna DZ and every jump will be a (free) coach jump and NOBODY would ever charge to teach you to pack! Yes humans are pathetic. As Arthur Clarke pointed out, if there are any gods in charge of the human race, they can't be very important gods. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

My boss has two Ford vans--both still driven every day. One has over 400,000 miles on it and the other has about 320,000. Neither has had either the engine or transmission rebuilt. Doors are falling off them, of course. My boss owns a plumbing company and the helpers drive these trucks. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Get a Honda or Toyota, but check out Fords. I got 140,000 miles out of an Escort and the only thing I ever did to it besides regular maintenance was replace the ignition modual for $39. The new Focus is even better. I wouldn't put another penny in your Chrysler. The transmission is about to go out any minute. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Welcome to the best sport in the world! Just think, golfers waste all that blue sky knocking a little white ball around a lawn. Be glad you're not one of them! In skydiving, as in life in general, if you allow what others think of you to get to you, you will always be miserable. And if your "friend" does not want for you what you want, he is no friend at all. When you feel like jumping--go do it. And if you don't ever feel like jumping again--what does it matter? It's your life. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

SL students learn to spot, fly and land. Every skydive ends with a landing. I learned via AFF and then jumped regularly at a Cessna DZ. From what I can see from my limited perspective, there is no advantage of taking AFF--and perhaps some disadvantages, i.e., spotting, canopy control, and landing. At most small DZs "coach" jumps are free; picking up the freefall skills comes naturally. By contrast, AFF is often overwhelming. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Would you mention that you are a skydiver?
Croc replied to Superman32's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would not mention that I'm a skydiver, but then, I'm not Superman :) And when you take up BASE, are you going to tell them that? They'll think you're nuts! Just my 2 cents. Good luck with the interview. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy -
My thoughts exactly. Any suggestions on gloves that would work? "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy
