Many years ago I was returning from a trip to France and Mike Love, lead singer for the Beach Boys, was on the flight. He bought everyone on the flight an ice cream! AFF student...two hard openings...one hard landing!
Croc replied to mikamas's topic in Safety and Training
An opening hard enough to break lines can be fatal. I have never heard of this happening on a student rig. Forgive me, but this is the kind of question a lawyer/troll might ask; a filled out profile would help. Where did this happen? What did your instructors say? They should have witnessed your body position and the entire deployment. The fact that you are asking this question online raises a huge red flag. Personally, I would recommend not making another jump at this DZ until it is clear in your mind what happened--and the explanation must come from your instructors. I haven't either Nobody wants to play with me because I've got HMA lines I ain't skert of HMA, nine cells or even regular pilot chutes--I'll do CRW with anyone! My confession is that my sig line is partially true--the flying like plywood part. Dang. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Unless you're a jerk. In that case, better try to be someone else! "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Very nice article. Thanks for posting it. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Most likely it would go on under anyone's watch. I expect the three branches of government are increasingly being left out of the loop. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Thanks. (I thought he made that up.) "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

This thread has made me want to buy another AR, as I sold the first two. So yesterday I bought a Colt with a removeable Magpul rear sight. The salesman said I could remove (or merely flip down) the rear sight and attach a red dot and "co-witness" the red dot with the front sight in place. Anyone ever hear of this term? I asked him what it meant and he said, "You know, co-witness!" (This thread has become so lame I felt all righteous in hijacking it.) "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Good job, IMHO. As a side note, I had an opening so hard on my Pilot 150 last summer that it knocked me unconscious. Since then I only use large stowbands, which I double on every stow. My greatest skydiving fear is a killer opening. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Well, it seems that you do have a dog in this fight. No one is required to defend a need to anyone. Percieved needs are entirely personal; there is no correct answer, and there is no answer that you are entitled to judge. Most misery comes from minding someone else's business. OK. I will answer your question directly: I need an AR-15 to kill people, should it become necessary. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Why did you start this thread? You evidently don't want your questioned answered since, when it has been answered, you have argued with people, line by line. What dog do you have in this fight? In answer to your original post, I need one. Sold mine to my brother last winter after I missed some work due to knee surgery. Looking for an A-4 flattop. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. I got my Wings container in 2005 and always had problems with pilot chute in tow with subterminal openings, and had some very long tows on some CRW jumps. Last year I got a Precision pilot chute from Paragear. I think it is the same size but has a longer bridle. No problems so far. The flap idea I had not heard of. Makes sense, because it stays closed, which always seemed strange to me. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so."
