Yep, that's all my wife buys. Expensive, but well worth it. After you get used to them, "regular" eggs taste like plastic! "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

I left my job after 18 years and never realized how bad I had it until I got my new job. There was a little bit of a rough spot for a couple of months, but I love my job now! Good luck on your new job. Anyone who would fire a good employee for merely looking to improve his situation is probably not worth much as a boss. A good boss would have sat down with you and tried to see what he could do to keep you. Good riddance! "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." If You Had To Leave The House With Just One Thing

I lost my wallet once. Felt like I was walking around without my pants for three days until some nice person found it and called me. So I voted for "wallet". "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. I guess that the features that make it good for CRW ( quick, on head openings, excellent response to riser inputs, etc. ) might have a somewhat negative effect on the landing flare. It seems I have been misinformed. Maybe I'll demo a regular Storm--I really did like the way mine flew. Thanks for the info. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

I've had students who were better skydivers in some respects than me, right out of the box. Athletic abilities are not distributed evenly, in jumping or any other sport. I know several people who love their Storms and can land them on a dime. A friend of mine who had well over a thousand jumps at the time was so convinced that her new Storm 170 was trimmed wrong that she sent it back to the factory. PD sent it back and said it was fine. Personally, I need a truly forgiving canopy. A man must know his limits. Also, I believe that all the configurations of the Storm are trimmed the same. Mine was a CF Storm. I think, especially in the smaller sizes, the Storm is too advanced for most jumpers just off AFF, IMHO. Glad you like yours--it really is a great canopy. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. No, I bought my Storm new. I demoed a 170 and had no problems at all landing it even in no wind. I am a landing challenged jumper (see my sig line), so I was much encouraged by that. To match the wing loading on my CRW team I got a 150. The "window" for flaring this canopy was much less. I never mastered it. One member of our team had 3000 jumps, and he couldn't land his well either. CRW team broke up. Bought Pilot 150. Problem solved. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Americans: What would it take for you to leave America for good?
Croc replied to wmw999's topic in Speakers Corner
I need to hit the lottery and retire to Italy. Short of that, I'd rather be broke in my own country than somewhere else. I think most of us working stiffs have been going from middle class to lower class for years. I'm doing alright, but I'm a service plumber. When I started in the trade in the late seventies, we charged $22/ hr. We worked in nearly everyone's homes. Now most companies are flat rate based on ten times that amount. My boss doesn't even bother to advertise except in the nicest suburbs. Plumbing has become a luxury. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Americans: What would it take for you to leave America for good?
Croc replied to wmw999's topic in Speakers Corner
Yep, that's what I'm thinking. Who would want me messing up their nice country? Seriously, I'd consider leaving if the government decided it needed the money in my accounts, as Greece did a while back. Where to go, I don't know. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. When the Alien Invasion occurs we will pretty much have to go where we are told. ( I have it on good information, however, do NOT get on the cigar-shaped spaceships!) Can't tell you how I know that, but a word to the wise... Round ones only. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." See "Landing the CF Storm" in the CREW forum. To the OP: The Storm can be a challenging canopy to land. Demo one and fly it under several wind conditions. At a low wing loading you will probably be alright, but why restrict yourself to to a seven cell canopy? Try a Pilot, Sabre 2, or a Saffire 2--you might like one of them much better. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

I am curious why you want a seven cell? I have about 400 jumps on Spectres and about a hundred on a CF Storm loaded at 1.3. Neither of these canopies are particularly easy to land, compared to many 9 cells. The Storm has a tendency to pop up. There are a few discussions on the landing characteristics of the Storm in the CREW forum. Unless you are doing CREW, why get one? (They are fun to fly, however, and many people have no trouble landing them.) They have a very steep angle of attack which some people just can't get used to when landing. As a first canopy you can't go wrong with a Pilot, IMHO. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." You don't need to have sky-god skills to enjoy jumping. I have well below average skills but I still have a great time jumping. The important thing is to be safe so that you are not a danger to yourself and others. Your instructors will let you know how you are doing in that respect. Otherwise resist the habit of comparing yourself to others. Accept the fact that others may have eye-hand coordination and reflexes that you don't have. (This is not necessarily true, of course--you have only jumped a few times!) Skydiving, like golf, is a difficult skill to master. Just remember that the object is to have fun. I honestly think that on many jumps I had the least skills but had the most fun. Hang in there! "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." If a woman donated her eggs to an infertile couple and after giving birth the wife ran off with the plumber, can the husband sue the donor for child support? (Sorry if someone has already brought this up.) "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy

Perhaps I don't understand the example in your original post. As far as I can tell this woman, who owns her own house and can easily get a reverse mortgage to pay for health insurance, would rather go on welfare so she can leave her assets to her children. If this is the case I will tell you that I have no interest at all in continuing to work (I am older than she is ) and pay taxes so that her children can inherit her assets. Again, the heirs get what is left after the creditors, including the government, should you go on welfare, get what is owed them. Are the middle class taxpayers getting screwed? Of course! 'Twas ever thus, my friend! I am debt free now, and with any luck I'll die that way. But if I need to spend everything I have to avoid going on the dole, I will. Then, if I need assistance, thank God I live in a country where I am likely to get it. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so."
