  1. Ok, something I'm sure most British people have felt like should be done at some time or another. What could be easier to defend and control passage through than an island? With all the trouble happening all over the world we are having a major influx of immigrants, paticularly those seeking asylum. Asylum, in my mind, is neccesary for someone to receive sanctuary in a safe environment, away from the danger they are running from. So why do (for example) Iraqis, Afghans, Kosovons, Albanians etc have to travel through so many countries and across the sea to find sanctuary in OUR country? I'm sure safety can be found elsewhere. Is it because we have a superb benefits system, whereby immigrants with no paperwork can receive payments every week to eat and shop and also get accomodation paid for in the community? Also Europeans (paticularly eastern Europe) are coming over in their thousands seeking work. I know of one factory they made a number of people redundant then the following week had a workforce made up of almost all Polish workers. No doubt they work hard and it's our own greedy fault for our companies employing a cheap wage but don't people think it's getting to the point where its getting stupid. I guess this is what happens when you become part of the EU and allow free passage and employment without restrictions. Obviouslly no problem with foreign visitors with scheduled leave of the country but people coming over seeking employment from Europe and illegal immigrants that have travelled through 8 countries to take the piss out of our benefits system!? Is that right!?
  2. We had one lad at out school that was excused all the biology lessons that explained about evolution because it was against his familiy's belief. He was a baptist, I wasn't aware they were so extreme in their ideas
  3. I believe you live in one of the most laid back states in America regarding weapons so talking to you when we live in an area of tight control is never going to have us seeing eye to eye. Anything that makes mine, my colleagues and the publics lives safer is better. No doubt when this goes forward the first story you find of a word being used in Scotland in an attack/robbery or wahatever you'll post it saying SEE TOLD YOU SO! The success is proved by the stroies you hear nothing about because they don't happen. You will always get the rogue who has no regard for law or regulation and no law will stop them doing as they please. When I say 'shitbag' I don't mean anyone without the paperwork automatically is a bad guy, I think you know that, but its funnier to detract from the main point by taking the piss. Our unsavoury regular customers, the violent pissheads that beat their wives when they go home, attack people for no reason, burgle houses etc, our prolific offenders should get the book thrown at them and as it happens, the majority of houses I've been to with swords on the wall, its those type of people that own them. Good regulation (on paper) equals harder punishment for those that ignore it. We don't have that same 'ITS MY GODDAMN RIGHT!' attitude that you appear to have so its really not a problem for 99% of people. In fact I would guess that alot of people would welcome it.
  4. Hey you wouldn't moan about a pack job... just maybe the time it takes
  5. My apologies. Looks like I'm out of my depth. I'm outta here!
  6. I don't remember it no, but incidents involving swords are more common than people think. Also speaking from an officer safety perspective going round peoples house and seeing swords all over the walls is sometimes worrying. Especially if you have to deliver bad news or are there to effect an arrest. The only way we know someone has swords in a property is if an officer has been there before and put in an intelligence report. For example if you go to a domestic incident you do a check on the address before you arrive for safety reasons. You may well be informed over radio: Known for violence, theft, wounding, domestic violence, child abuse. Also intelligence says there are swords in the property. .. and I assure you that is pretty standard, not an exaggeration. Our regular 'customers' are generally nasty bits of work
  7. OK, this was in relation to a creationist trying to use the law of thermodynamics to prove evolution is impossible and horrifically misrepresenting the facts. I wonder if he learnt from us here in the SC?
  8. There was something about this in Dave Gormans googlewhack adventure and it relating to evolution *tries not to pretend to understand* Isn't the key phrase that fucks it all up - In a closed system blah blah blah? EDIT: I've re-read your post and I may have really misunderstood what you were on about
  9. He is indeed I don't twitch, just get angry when things aren't how they should be
  10. Found some. Thanks to people that helped
  11. You guys rock, quite accidently, you've answered my query that was raised here! [url]http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2392368;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread[url]
  12. Also consider that if their is a regulated sale of items, persons found to be in posession of such an item. i.e Neds/Chavs, whatever you wanna call them, will face tougher penalties. Its the same reason we have knife and gun amnesties now and again. When it goes to court the prosecution and judge can say... but you had opportunity to get rid of the item without fear of prosecution and you chose to keep hold of it. Or in the case of swords, you should not be in posession of this item as you don't have the neccesary licence/authority (however they are going to do it). If your not a registered collector or historian then preusmably you had some other intention for use of the item. Both the above scenarios lead to tougher prison sentances and punishements of shitbags. Something that we know is already too lenient. THis will just help dangerous people away for longer. As you previouslly stated, if the law is enforced wisely it will be effective tool.
  13. On the contrary, the dropzone is my sanctuary. None of my friends from everyday life or before I started jumping have got involved and thats the way I like it. The only impact I have felt is when you check the weather report before letting the new girl on the scene know if you'll be seeing her this weekend or not
  14. Bottom line is, I have no interest in swords and nor have 99% of the population. So who exactly is going to vote against this proposal? My guess is that people won't feel strongly enough to counter the argument (certainly not in any number) and the policy will go through and to be honest, I couldn't give a fuck. Whats the hardship in taking a few extra steps to get what your after? Be interesting to hear a serious sword collector/historians point of view. Part of me thinks they'd be annoyed because it makes things harder for them but the other thinks they'd probably rather only responsible people like themselves could purchase items like this
  15. I say be careful when buying electronics. I bought one off the classifieds on here which doesn't work What with having a busy rigger and me cutting it fine I only found out day before I left to go on skydiving holiday. Ended up buying brand new Cypres 2. At least I know its perfect and will last me 12 years (with servicing etc)
  16. Tell her about it? I've sent her 20 of the finest *JOKE!*
  17. DOne. She's gonna be so chuffed when she reads all these e-mails. Haha
  18. Its fucking crazy mate. It said on the news it is in response to A parent (singular) complaining. Ever seen the Simpsons episode where Marge gets Itchy & Scratchy banned or something like that. How ironic huh. Petty fucking doo gooders.

Hey Chris, sadly this is something you'll have to get used to. At least when your licenced the wind won't be as much of an issue as you can jump pretty much whatever your comfortable with (to a point) and you might be able to do a few hop n pops from cloudbase or put yourself down for a 'go-for-it' load. Oh although learning to pack is good thing to learn, maybe a few more jumps would be better first. Save overloading yourself
  20. As log as the sky is nice and clear and the winds arent howling I dont mind. If not, ho hum, I'm not gonna cry over £30 flight and the small price of accomodation. Its worth that just to have a mad week away from home
  21. Haha, cheers people. I'm not overly concerned just be nicer and cleaner. For example the speedo in your car doesnt go to 100mph then anything in excess of that you have to work out for yourself
  22. PLease tell me god isn't a thigh slapper
  23. Ah, I always wondered why they called it the stealth bomber WOw, thats amazing, still don't understand the science but the pictures are awesome.
  24. ...or we can try and avoid another unneccesary death by discussing it sensibly and calmly like adults with a rational head. I fyour volunterring yourself for that cause, fine, the more lessons I learn without having to experience them first hand the better
