Whuffos... limitations and definitions
Scoop replied to ryan_d_sucks's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think alot of people see tandems as just being a passenger. They are often referred to as students which isn't always right. Sometimes you do a tandem as a first step into a training program but for the one off people who then proclaim they are skydivers... well that annoys people. They are still whuffos, especially when we know they pissed themselves all the way down and had weird body position inducing some crazy stuff for the tandem master to control. Maybe not whuffos, as they've pushed the boundries a little and tried to experience it, but I guess its just a skydivers way of referring to someone who isn't in their gang, losing some of its original meaning. -
I agree with you and I have a bit of an issue with people like journalists being in war zones anyway. In my mind they shouldn't be there, I know they are just trying to show the world whats going on but it is dangerous territory, stuff like this happens.

PM sent for R&D input

Oh god yes! That would be a fun read, maybe you could contact your pals at skydive radio and spill the beans on there. Haha!
-
I take it you meant to copy/paste the steel toe capped referance. EDIT: HAHA< nice save! Well... thats exactly why we're not allowed them. Not really neccesary anyway in my opinion and I really couldn't be arsed with that added weight!!
-
I hope the pilot was kept in beer! Good spot and good save
-
To be honest I didn't see the incident so yeah, its all context, I agree. But damn, anyone should be able to do whatever they want when it comes to that. If a muslim player had knelt down and started mock praying there wouldn't have been a word said because we'd have been too scared to take any action in my opinion.
-
Cool, they must be pretty sturdy then. Just for information I'm not allowed steel toe capped boots
-
I checked the Oakley boot range out. I'm not sure I'd get away with the sole on them. The GSG-9s is pushing my luck enough without that strange serated pattern around the perimeter. Shame
-
Cool thanks, I was looking at the 5.11s but they just look to chunky to wear all day every day. I don't mind spending money to look after my feet but I wanna make the right choice. Only concern with the GSG9 boots is they don't look terribly professional, look like trainers almost, especially when we wear the trousers down rather than tucked in like you would with DPMs/BDUs

Police community support officer. So pounding the beat all day every day talking to the community and chasing shitbags that try to make the residents life hell. Unfortunately UK police get so tied up with paperwork and more serious enquiries that they had to make a completely new role for this, which I shall be stepping into
-
Hahahahahha, fuck that. Although the rule book just states they must be black and smart, so its a possibility! That'd raise a few eyebrows. Prob last only 10 mins though
-
Hey, Time has come for new boots. I'm in new role and that means on foot for between 8-12 hours a day in urban environment, will be running/climbing in them too. Looking at Adidas GSG-9 boots and also SWAT Air. Anyone got any experience or other suggestion? Im all ears!
-
Haha, they are quite good! Oh, BTW your link needs bit of tidying up
-
No I'm not jealous... you bastard!!!! We have to jump through hoops and detention is now even harder to authorise what with SOCA (the Serious & Organised Crime Act) EDIT TO ADD: I posted this in a British police forum I also make use of...
-
John, was it you!? I take it all back, your a good man! Seriously though, this is pretty cool. I don't know how many people would even know how to call a police force on the other side of the world!
-
Im British and we have certain history, tradition and cultural differences that I'm proud of. If other people take offence to me taking pride in that thats their problem. But it seems odd that a foreigner would settle in a country and then take offence at their practices
-
Scottish laws give them so much freedom. There is no such thing as PACE (POlice & Criminal Evidence Act) up there and if you so much as fart in public it can be construed as Breach of the Peace.. but yeah your absolutely right, its ridiculous
-
But if you lose the case the punishments are more severe. So think about exercising your right carefully, paticularly if you know your guilty and just trying to wriggle off the hook.
-
Now that's just sneaky. But I think its fair to say you can't say that was a revenue raiser! Damn that must have been an expensive initiative!
-
I don't know about in the US but in the UK even other police officers hate traffic officers for those exact reasons. They are called the black rats or shiny ass brigade because they sit in their cars all day
-
Three years, no tickets. Pulled over once because was in new car and wasn't yet registered in anyones name. Story added up after doing checks and I continued on my merry way
-
Yeah, this is where officers training, people skills and discretion comes into play. Alot of the time in situations like that you will have word because I can't just ignore it. If the manner of driving seems safe and on speaking to the driver they acknowledge what they were doing and apologise thats good enough for me

I think respect is 2 way, I always give people respect. If they return it thats great, we'll get on just fine and everyone can carry on with what they were doing ASAP. In fact 80% of times I deal with people we have a bit of a joke and make chit chat. 20% of the time, by the very nature of the work, we deal with assholes and I have no problems in doing a few extra checks, after all why are they being so aggreessive? Do they have something to hide?
