  1. Sorry but in my opinion people that get all shitty obviously don't understand the consequences of their actions and think they are above everyone else. Best way to make people like that to think twice is to hit them in their pocket. If yo are reasoning with someone and they aren't taking it on board than maybe the fear of getting a ticket everytime they do something worng is the only way to make them drive sensibly.
  2. I thought about wearing ear plugs as I have some loss of high frequency sound from using air tools and grinders etc. Im only 21. I also hear that it can cause problems equalising and people have had earplugs pulled into their ear so I decided not to bother, whether thats an urban legend or not I don't know. Then when I consider that time spent at nightclubs and in work environment is much greater than time spent in aircraft and jumping I feel I'm kinda wasting my time. If its really loud in the aircraft I just put my helmet on.
  3. No worries, i'm full of compliments Yeah, your showing us up. I guess we just aren't as hardcore as we thought we were, eh grandad?
  4. It was quite possibly a non-compliant dog used for extreme scenarios such as sieges and involved when people have weapons. Unfortunately they are not considered in the same light as general purpose police dogs and are just another use of force, another officer response option, so sadly although maybe upsetting, it would be half expected The officer probably felt the oppurtunity was there to release the dog as a resolution. Its quite possible that when the dog was on the move thats when the guy reached for whatever he reached for and then got shot. Just summising but seems quite reasonable possibility
  5. Sorry mate, wasn't directed at you. I appreciate your help, just find it odd that they have a page saying how great the product is but not much 'real info'
  6. Hes getting old, he got a lot of ticking off to do... you know.... THE list
  7. Thanks people, I found one. Treat myself for christmas! Its at http://www.expansys.com/zoompic.aspx?type=item&i=112175 just in case anyone else is interested
  8. That page gave absolutely no information on the product. Why would motorola make a webpage like that? My brother worked as a technician repairing stuff for motorola and I'd rather stay well clear of them to be honest. They suck
  9. I guess it depends on what the traffic tickets for eh. Number plate light not working... that pretty pathetic. But even a light out is potentially dangerous if there is no illumination on that side. Other vehicles can assume you are a motorcycle in the dark and might not allow enough room, a pedestrian may step out prematurely or even if nothing like that does happen the headlight that does still work becomes ultra bright and dazzles oncoming traffic. Plus why should everyone else maintain their cars to a reasonable condition for safetys sake when other people are allowed to get away with not doing the same? That isn't fair I think it probably appears that cops are being over the top regularly, but the trouble is they go to more incidents in a week than most people will ever see in their entire life. Seeing people smashed up in accidents, distraught homeowners returning to a ransacked property and the consequences of dangerous driving tend to harden you up and make you not see it is such a casual matter. Don't get me wrong, a lot of traffic legislation is very picky but its for a reason, perhaps that your average Joe citizen doesn't get to see. Maybe all new drivers should go to one of those fire & rescue driving days where they show you the gruesome reality of accidents. I'm lucky, I've only had to tell one set of parents that their son had died in a car accident and killed his girlfriend passenger too, hardest part was telling them it was his own fault for driving like an idiot (I was more diplomatic at the time naturally). But telling one family that their son, brother, grandson, uncle had died is enough for me. I'd prefer not to have to ever say it again
  10. So it seems it is legal. Whoever wants to jump out of an aircraft must realise that it is a potentially dangerous activity. They can seek training in whatever way they feel appropriate to, it is their choice. If someone is actively encouraging newbies into the sport with inadequate training, that is different. But as already been stated, just because they arent USPA centres doesn't mean they are automatically dangerous. Leave them to it I say.
  11. Yeah its true, but don't you hate it when scumbags get off with things. Face your consequences and stop being such a chicken shit (not you, but whoever trys to wriggle off the hook)
  12. Its not illegal to look through someones windows. In fact if you look through someones windows and see something odd looking that builds your justification for a thorough search. Like for example looking in you see a set of gloves, a balaclava, you know the local area has been hit by burglaries recently and its an odd time of night for you to be about. If police officers don't look and ask questions then they are actually being negligent in their duty. What might seem as a slight inconvenience to you is very basic bread & butter policing that helps keep burglars out of your house while your asleep. Society likes to complain and make things very difficult for authority, unfortunately some bad eggs have caused this combined with a sensational media. If we lived in a world where police weren't allowed to do basic enquiries they would not be able to do good proactive polcing, which prevents crime and stops it before its been comitted. JohnRich, as is my understanding, you were well within your right not to give anymore info if officer had all that was legally required. But why do you think that if you had failed to notify of change of address (which is an offence) that the pesky cop is trying to get one over on you? It is illegal! The sad fact is people drive without insurance, dont register vehicles in their name, dont notify when they change address and as a result, when they commit crime, are involved in accidents or knock someone over and make off from the scene it becomes very difficult to track them down. If that was your son, family member or friend who was hurt or had their car smashed you'd be the first one screaming about how the useless police aren't doing their jobs if they can't track the offender down. You can't have it both ways. I've said before, by being so furtive to police and creating a bad atmosphere that tends to make cops think something is up. He might not know your just being a prick, he probably thinks your trying to evade something, so don't be surprised if they take things a step furthur. Asking someone where they live is a reasonable request in my opinion. If I pulled someone over and I wanted to deal with it in a manner beyond verbal advice, ie ticket, report to appear at court etc and they failed to give me their name and/or address they would be arrested for failing to provide a name or address suitable for summons. You never know, what started off as 'lets have a chat with this guy cos his lights out' easily becomes 'this guys a fucking asshole, he can have a ticket as hes obviously got an attitude problem'
  13. In todays modern times every single handset seems to have Bluetooth capabilities but as we know it is dangerous, foolish and often illegal to use your phone whilst driving HOWEVER: All the Bluetooth handsfree kits I see are shit. They are the crappy cigar lighter ones with a speaker or the big tusk type ones that make you look like a complete prick. The only hands free kit I would install in my car would be a professional one that is wired through the stereo but I cant seem to find one that does this. The reasoning being if I buy a model specific hands free kit and get it installed then when I replace my handset I have to have another kit fitted which means more mucking around with electrics and damage to vehicle fittings/trim. Surely someone must have thought of this as a good design. One hands free kit for life of the vehicle regardless of phone. Anyone know if there is such a product? I can't seem to find one anywhere
  14. I haven't used a Pearl but they look very nice, main benefit is it looks like a normal phone rather than like your talking into a calculator. I got a Blackberry 7100x and I can vouch for their capabilities. They are really good, can set up 10 email accounts I think it is and you get all your emails 'pushed' to your handset more or less instantly. I think the Pearl got the same suretype keypad which takes a while to get used to but once you do you can knock out sms & emails fairly quickly . I've found the internet access to be very slow though so unless your just needing to look something up quickly, like erm, train timetable or something its pretty useless but great for keeping mobile. If your going to use it for work its a great way of keeping yourself out the office I'd imagine. The way mine works (Software is o2 network) is you have one huge message folder with all your emails/SMS and whatever else in there or you can look up your email accounts seperately using a different icon. If you look at the Blackberry website they got really good demonstration animations to show you how it works. I like the way that if you receive a text off someone it will automtaically present the rest of the conversation between both parties so you can recall what the hell they are talking about. Which is handy when your dealing with lots of people and cant recall who they are or what they are on about. I strongly suggest you check ebay unless your happy to get an expensive contract. I got mine for £30 and arranged a SIM only package with my provider and works out good deal
  15. If they were good handling and performing cars, I'd see them at the race track.
  16. Funny thing is, they mocked us for trying to get illegal firearms off the streets but they are allowed to do voluntary searches over there to do exactly the same ITS NOT THE GUNS!!! ITS THE PEOPLE!!! At least thats what I heard. I wish our country was as free as yours. Seems we all have our pros & cons huh
  17. I don't like the way pedestrians safety is completely thrown out the window when it comes to SUVs/4x4s or whatever you call them. Many vehicle designers go to great lengths to design safe areas of the car for people, especially children, so if struck by a vehicle they minimse the damage (like thrown up onto a nice flexible soft bonnet rather than into someones grille. I know plenty of people who drive them knowing they are safe in their chelsea tractors but really can't drive something that size, paticularly on our narrow roads. Think of the poor bastard you hit, instead of bumper to bumper accident you face bumper to windscreen/side window etc. They are mostly used as status symbols, even in the country you dont need those stupid cars. Tell me honestly that that big Porsche 4x4 or Mercedes 4x4 is a real performer off road? Plus they are shit to drive, they really are. Like driving a ferry with wheels
  18. Thats called good policing. Its being proactive. Colleague of mine knocked on someones door (for legitimate reason) could smell strong smell of cannabis so arrested him on his doorstep on SUPSPICION of possesing a controlled substance which given the circumstances gives the power to search a premises, without prior issue of a warrant, where he has recently been, in this case his house. In the loft a hydroponics factory/farm... whatever. That was a good job from absolutely nothing. Other officers might have not noticed or acted on it but unless you start digging around you'll never find anything. I personally can say that on my 'fishing trips' I have found swords, firearms, lots of drugs, offensive weapons, stolen articles and more. You learn your laws and legislation so you know how to use them. If theres nothing preventing a voluntary search then thats another tool you can use. HOWEVER I am strongly opposed to even suggesting voluntary searches of houses.
  19. In the UK its illegal to conduct a voluntary search of a person as it is generally thought that an honest citizen will agree, regardless of if there is a power to do so on the basis that they feel they cannot decline to a police officer. They feel obliged to say yes. We do however, perform searches of vehicles on a voluntary basis from time to time where otherwise you might not have a power "whats in the boot (trunk) mate? Mind if I have a look?" "yeah sure" or "no. fuck off copper" *spidey senses start tingling* You will be surprised as well, often people will agree to searches even if they are going to be caught out with something. Maybe hoping that appearing casual you'll only perform a half arsed quick search. WRONG! I have only ever performed a couple of house searches without warrant (which were later issued retrospectively) Looking in peoples cars is one thing, but someones house is quite another. If someone asked to look in my house I'd be telling them to do one
  20. Now your talking my language Tony
