Here is what I am guessing from my years of watching Matlock and playing Clue: 1. Whoever took it is not from the farm and more than likely is not a regular visitor (probably 1st time). 2. The person is either a new jumper or a friend of a jumper that came. My guess is a young male that is new to the sport and possibly there alone. Im guessing it was somebody not a lot of people know. 3. The person is probably not very compter savvy. With laptops being relatively inexpensive and serial numbers making them undesireable to have if stolen, I sure would never want a hot laptop. The actual hardware stolen is not worth much anyway and I certainly have no desire for others personal files. They saw it sitting there and it looks valuable and they took it. This person probably does drugs too, as people with drug problems tend to steal stuff like this. 4. Unfortunately, it is probably gone forever. Even if the thief is on DZ.com, he is probably shitting his pants right now and might just dump it rather than risk being identified by trying to return it. If he is not, best chance is for some honest pawn shop owner to check serial numbers and turn it in. 5. Surely it would be easy to identify the group of stragglers at the party...Im sure there were about 10 hard core'ers left..... Who turned off the music?

Are you missing the point that a back up drive stored with the original drive is not a back up drive? Do you keep your spare car key on the keychain with the original????

OK.....I get it a lot more now. Very cool of him to leave it....I wish he had tapped a night owl buddy to be in charge of it. Again, the 20/20 thing applies and unfortunately, all to many of us have learned the hard way that there are always bad apples. If I was at that party, I would have chipped in too (because I sure as hell wouldnt have gone to bed early) I still stand by my earlier statements about the lessons we all need to learn from this.. Whats funny is, there was a known thief at a DZ once, EVERYONE knew it and the thief would show up selling hot merchandise at other DZ's. Nobody said shit to him. I couldnt understand that either. I am amazed at how much people do not want to 'get involved.' I hope someone turns this SOB in.. --

Is anyone else shaking there head at this situation???? I feel bad that their laptop was stolen and all but this is getting more sympathy and DONATIONS than most incidents. Believe me, if you told me who the thief was, I would be first in line to tar and feather but.... There is some culpability of the laptop owner in this situation too. (that should be a lesson to all of us) 1. There are bad apples in every group. Even skydivers, expect it. 2. It sounds like this thing was not locked up. If you have something valuable, lock it in your car trunk. It is hard to have a lot of sympathy if they left it sitting in the hangar overnight. 3. If the files are so dang important, back them up on a drive/server that is always seperate. My files are on a few iPods and Yahoo servers. 4. There are starving kids and some people are donating hundreds/up to thousands of dollars as a reward/replacement???? Do with your own money as you will, but I sure couldn't see the reasoning behind this, especially when it sounds like it could have been prevented. Nobody is homeless or hungry, nobody does not have a car to get to work, there are no widows or kids without parents.... Either way, if it was so important, it should have been insured, and if it was, why is everyone donating? I have seen less of a reaction in both sympathy and monitary ways to a lot of fatalities..... I don't get it..... ---

Man was it fun. It is like Woodstock with Metrosexuals instead of Hippies.

I am pretty politically aligned with Montel Williams...He is sharper than most people think. -

Yeah...It was Ironic though.... What was racist is when I wore my turban and read my Koran on the plane and wore my "Praise Allah - Death to the Zionists!" t-shirt on the plane. Everyone looked at me funny....What a bunch of racists! -

Everyone is afraid of having the race card played on them. I have a friend who is a flight attendant. She bypassed a black lady with the beverage cart because she was sleeping.....She woke up and saw that the cart had passed. She got all pissy and accused the FA of not serving her because she was black...This was 2 days ago. -

No....I just found it ironic that a few decades ago everyone would have gone apeshit if she was in the front of the bus or didnt give up her seat for a white person. Now, even here luggage is worthy of a seat.. I do think the reason nobody pressed the issue was because of everyones hyper-sensitivity about race.... If I had my bag in the seat I bet someone would have said something... The big thing was how damn rude a lot of people are now -
I do feel that I get a pretty good value for my taxes....This is a pretty inexpensive and easy country to live in. If you are hurt bad, there will be a helicopter to get you to the hospital....Our infrastructure (rail, highways, air) are pretty good...Yes there is traffic in cities but the interstate sys is bad ass....Food and gas are cheap....Housing inexpensive almost everywhere.....

The people that pay the most tax are the poor saps that are salaried in the 35% bracket that can write crap off like business owners.

Dubai would have more to lose from another terrorist attack than anyone. Shortly, their oil will run out and they will be 100% dependent on tourism. I would argue that our ports would be SAFER if they ran the company.
-
No shit. Dubai has embraced western culture and capitalism more than anyone could have ever believed. I can't wait to visit there. Retarted Americans cant see that we would have the same shitty security regardless of who owns the ports. The reprocussions for our ignorance. Emeriates, one of the fastest growing airlines in the world, is likely to buy airbus instead of Boeing. Billions more lost in our trade deficit due to ignorance. If I visit, I will wear a shrt that says "Im an American. Im sorry the rest of my countrymen are stupid"
-
I don't see what the big deal is about where terrorists come from. Timothy McVeigh came from Kansas....Did we invade Topeka after OK City? There are millions of Saudis, Iraqis, Lebanese etc that would never bomb americans, why label a whole country for a messed up few? We do and thats why even the nice, sane Arabs hate us..

We have come full circle - Back of the Bus

I was riding the bus from remote parking at DFW yesterday. It was packed and standing room only when I got on. There was a black lady sitting behind the driver and she had her suitcase sitting in the seat next to her. There was an old (white) couple standing in front of her. The bus driver made 2 announcements asking people (her) to put their bags in the proper place so people could sit. She either ignored or didn't hear, because he never moved the bag. She could clearly see the old lady in front of her. Everyone around was rolling their eyes but nobody said anything. And, not one man got up to offer the old lady a seat. I bit my lip because I dont think I could have been very nice... Common courtesy is as dead as segregation it appears. -
Another thing that kills them is exactly why SWA kicks everyones ass. On the "34 minute" flight to IAH, we were # 6 for takeoff at DFW (10 min). We took off to the North and followed the SID that took us almost to ADS before turning south. Then we were vectored well south of IAH at a low altitude (burning gas) and when we finally landed, we taxied for at least 10". Block to block was over an hour, doubling the time on the A/C.

I bought a ticket to MIA on the 23rd for $220....That flight is already oversold, as well as all the others that day...Why in the hell tickets below ASM cost????? And MGT blames the employees..... They used to fly a 767-300 to PHX and it was packed. The y should figure out a way to utilize the 777's better than to have them sit in EZE and other locations all day. And, never sell a seat for a price that is not profitable.
-
The retards working yesterday AM were overpaid then... On a seperate note...Doesn't nonrevving on AA suck recently. The ONLY time I could get to IAH all weekend was yesterday AM,,,,,,And I had a friend in CHI last weekend trying to get out, ALL the flights were oversold and the were 120 non revs standing by....How can AA not be making a fortune? Everything is PACKED!

I once pissed off Jack Gramley real bad by pornolize'ing www.skydiveperris.com in the Bombshelter....I had Pat Conaster believing that someone hacked it...He was like "It's gotta be someone from Eloy!" He said "Go get Jack!" I was laughing it up...Jack showed up and instantly looked at the URL and knew it was.... Unfortunately, he had been sound asleep to rest for an early meeting or something..... He was not amused, nor was Pat... My jokes backfire A LOT!

My best friend is a Federal Flight Deck Officer. He flashes his badge and walks right through security. He has also gotten out of three speeding tickets. The TSA will never be effective with $10 an hour employees that thir only other option is Wendy's.

What out-of-the-ordinary things do you do for safety?
Duckwater replied to a topic in Safety and Training
1. I always use a packer. I have over 900 jumps and I have NEVER packed a parachute. I have never had a bad pack job. 2. I never jump on the weekends. I jumped at Perris during the week and I usually know everybody on the plane. No offense, but go watch landings during the week, then the weekend. The 'weekend warriors' are all over the place and a lot of them cant fly their canopies well. 3. I keep my rig in top shape and ask my riggers for any advice. Tack your Slinks. Get hard riser inserts, get elastic to stow your excess. I had a cut away and a rear riser landing because I did not tack my slinks or stow my excess at first. 4. Take a canopy flight course. This was by far the most important thing I did. A canpy is a complex airfoil with complex controls and characteristics. You HAVE to be taught to fly it properly. Training yourself is the dumbest thing you could ever do. 5. Listen - Go find the people with 10,000 jumps and ask them for advice. Watch how people like Tony Dominico fly their canopies. You dont have to swoop, ever. Wisdom on the DZ is free and it is easy to find. The people with it are usually very open to giving it to you, but they wont force it on you. 6. Read the incidents forum on DZ.com. It is a gold mine of knowledge and full of stories of what, and what NOT to do. -
I swear I said this... I was having sex with this girl at my parents house....We had sex the first date and like rabbits for the nest 4 or so....I was doing her and said "Are you always this easy?" She never returned my calls after that...What was I thinking?

I went to Houston yesterday AM and when I went through security, there were 2 AA flight attendants that were getting hassled pretty hard. I saw one show her ID to TSA, then she put it in the bin to go through the x-ray. When she went though the detector, the TSA ripped her a new one for not having her ID. The other FA was getting yelled at for something. There were 3 people ahead of me and it took 10 minutes to get through. There was a 'bag check' bag in the x-ray and they all just stood around while announcing 'bag check' over and over. The FA's bag had gone through the scanner and was almost out of the tunnel, she reached in to get it and TSA yelled at her again.... I get it now...I saw the Dateline that basically made them look like fools that aired the night before....
