Like I said, win-win!! "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

Official documents that come back with my name misspelled... I don't mind it too much when someone's just not paying attention, but I've just gotten an email back from the tax-man telling me they cannot change my details because those details are official... So according to *THEM*, I am wrong and from now on I should spell my name with an "h" ("Nathalie"). I can already see more problems coming from this... Oh no, madame... We cannot accept your passport as your name (Natalie) doesn't match our govn't records... Funnily enough, when I opened my bank account here, they designated me as Mr... I've tried everything to get them to fix it but 2.5 year on I STILL have problems with them refusing to do stuff for me because I'm not allowed to use my "husband's" account... Hmmm... Hey, my subject got changed and it wasn't me who did it!!! (?) Straaaange... jdc: Although I love your logic, I obviously can't work just one day and still get what I'm getting now! Even if I could, I'd have a lot of free time but still not enough money to pay the bills. Unfortunately, not a pay-per-view model.... I'm a Chartered Accountant - FAR less exciting than the above option "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

Awesome... I was was gonna ask you in the other thread if a full time job/promotion with your current employer was a possibility. It wasn't really, but they put their heads together and found a solution where my net salary is significantly higher without it costing much more to the company. Win-win

I must be the luckiest person alive!!!

Yep... Always the same problem, though... Before I can jump I need to re-subscribe to USPA, pay for insurance, get a reserve re-pack, and by that point I have no money left for tickets... Not to mention the nearest DZ is about a 4hr drive or a plane ticket away... All of which costs more money... Maybe I'm missing the point with this whole job-search-thing and I should just post a pay-per-view picture of myself in a French-maid outfit?? Yep. It's offputting. Theonlyski: you *can* take something - anything - in the meantime just to pay the bills... You don't have to put that on your CV though... When I first moved to London, I did lots of small/part-time odd-jobs that do not appear on my CV. I simply have one line that states: "xx/2005 - XX/2005: small jobs while travelling / relocating" If they ask for further explanation (they usually don't), I tell them honestly that I did a bit here and there just to pay the bills but they are not particularly relevant in the grand scheme of things. Given you can double or triple your salary in your early years, it's tempting to move around... It's tricky to strike a balance and can be problematic on many levels... Most companies are forced to follow market rates when they hire new employees, but they don't adjust current employee salaries at the same rate... If you end up (like I have on one occasion) with a salary higher than your boss' boss, you can see how this might upset people (and discourage companies from promoting you further). Also, you gain a wide variety of experience by moving, but you also need people who stay, hone their skills and become experts... You need both IMO - the knowledgeable/dependable ones, and the ones who will inovate/shake things up a bit.

Bro, that's hard... It's a vicious cycle... When you're already working, you *are* more likely to get taken seriously... However, you don't have much time to job-hunt and go to interviews... Catch-22... Hang in there... Try not to seem desperate (probably impossible)... Treat the job-hunt like a full-time job... At some point things will work out... They always do somehow. Good point... If we ever did meet, you might come to the horrible conclusion that I'm not a dipshit... Then you'd have one less person to harass on here, and that's just not good!! 'Fraid I can't help you there dude... Never jumped in Belgium... In fact, I haven't had the means to jump for so many years I couldn't even tell you where to jump here!! I have and there is, but it's a big (and expensive) commitment. I'm exploring the possibility, though. "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

I think I just unwittingly did this to my boyfriend!! HOWEVER, in my defence, I was not trying to re-organise; I was merely trying to put the dishes away. As I have posted before, I am job-hunting at the moment. I currently work for a small company. Aside from the fact that it's part-time work (and thus part-time salary), it is my dream job. It's not perfect, and I don't skip on my way to work, but on balance, it's pretty great. Trouble is, it's really fucking hard to make ends meet every month, and every month my savings (that I spent 14+ years building up) are closer and closer to being completely gone... I just turned down 3 job offers because they only pay marginally more than what I am currently earning part-time... If I'm going to accept shitty work, I'd rather go back to London and at least get lots of money for the shitty work. But ohhhhh, how I wish everything would somehow work out... Meh... If I *do* have to go back to London, at least I know I gave it a good go, and at least I will have had a couple of years of sunshine!!

...especially when they know they're just adding fuel to the fire! cheap shot, indeed... *exactly* Saying "calm down" is a patronising way of telling the other person they are being irrational. In fact, if the other person really *is* aggitated, a much more effective way to cool things down is simply to lower your own voice and usually the other person follows suit. Diplomatic and effective. The only rational response to hearing "calm down" is: [yelling]"I AM FUCKING CALM"!!![/yelling] "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

- When someone tells me to "calm down"... I was calm, and now I want to punch you. - People who yell. - People who hit/yell at their pets when it's really their fault (example - you leave your pup indoors alone for 15 hours... OF COURSE it's gonna pee on the carpet...) "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

Trial or alternative for Adobe After Effects?
Nataly replied to Nataly's topic in Photography and Video
I don't really know what she needed it for - she just wanted to replicate something she had done before in AE. And it doesn't matter at all how relatively "cheap" it may be - when you don't have $300, you don't have $300. On what planet is 300.00 not a lot of money?!! She is not doing a paid internship and my guess is she doesn't want to invest in the entire software just for us if she has access to it during the regular schoolyear... I think she is working on stills - not sure. "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss -
Trial or alternative for Adobe After Effects?
Nataly replied to Nataly's topic in Photography and Video
It's not for me - our intern is a student in graphic design and she would like to do stuff to images... Apparently there's something in After Effects she knows about but she doesn't have the software. She is a poor student, so cannot afford to buy it. Trial or alternative for Adobe After Effects?

Hi guys, I did a search and didn't come up with an answer... Can anyone tell me where to get a trial version of After Effects? Alternatively, can anyone suggest another software for manipulating images? Thanks in advance
