    High/Low

High: Job offers have started to come in. Low: I have to leave my current job (best job *ever* - sadly it doesn't pay enough )

    Peeves ...

Also drives me crazy when someone needs to turn left into a driveway (for instance) and they don't even leave the teeeeeeeniest amount of room for my bike to keep going... Seriously - it doesn't take much... People in general who block your way unnecessarily drive me bonkers... So fucking oblivious to others around them... It's not just the Americans... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympics/olympicsvideo/9440455/London-2012-Olympics-five-memorable-Olympic-Games-protests.html "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." » - my boss

    Background?

You didn't put North America!! So any one not caucasian from there cannot tick any boxes... And some of us fit in more than one category... Not a great set of options... Speaking of sets, you didn't even put boobies - fucking AMATEUR!! Peeves ...

I think I could write a whole book about my pet peeves... Perhaps I'm merely intolerant!!! One that just occurred to me now: people who put empty stuff back in the fridge... This morning I wanted a glass of very cold water... I grabbed the bottle of tap water I keep in the fridge... Unfortunately, my boyfriend had gotten to it first - there were only about 3 drops of lovely cool water for me in there!!! Hmmm... Peeves ...

    - Rude customer-service reps. - People who walk slowly or gaggle in such a way that blocks the passage for people who are actually trying to get somewhere. - Little people who have a bit of power and use it every chance they get just so they can feel big and important. 8. Never gotten any bruises from skydiving... And almost all my jumps have been with a Sabre 1... Maybe I'm just a freak of nature!! "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." » - my boss
  9. Who cares? Guys at the beach walk around topless with their beer-gut and moobs bouncing all over the place and no one asks if *that* should be allowed. 10. +1. I wish I could find the video... There was an artist who did moulds of hundreds (if not thousands) of pussies ... Everyone who saw the exhibition was amazed at the sheer variety of shapes and sizes, and at how impossible it was to link age/body-type, et cetera to the pussies on display... In fact, the women who had their kitties moulded couldn't even find theirs! Very interesting... And lovely to see un-photo-shopped kitties! 11. I'm not refusing to acknowledge your views - I am pointing out that none of your arguments so far have been based on logic or fact. "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." » - my boss
  12. Never heard of them and just googled some of their videos - funny stuff!! "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." » - my boss
  13. Yes. If this burden didn't fall directly on businesses, fewer single moms would be on welfare. I think this is a case where the government should re-direct funds... Obviously it's not a simple problem. Ironically, typically the people who cover the person on maternity leave will be a mother returning to work. Often accepting a more junior role for less money because good jobs are hard to come by with a gap on your CV. So the business benefits from expertise they wouldn't normally have access to. It's not a total loss, but difficult for a small business for sure. And difficult for women. And unfortunate for those of us who don't even have/want kids. 14. Doubt that - i'm freakishly strong!!! Wanna wrestle? I don't believe in an unfair fight. Plus, I'd feel bad if I hurt you! "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." » - my boss

  16. Nobody is stopping the women... Oh really??? You're right that we can apply, we just won't be considered... That's stopping us, in my view... "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." » - my boss
  17. People went to th US because of a strong desire to appripriate/expand their territory (aka colonialism)... Sexism is rampant *everywhere* (including th US) because change takes time. Calling for change is not "whining". The majority of French people are women and let me assure you they do NOT want sexism to persist. The fact is that the current system assumes the man has the financial burden of raising a family, and that a woman's job/salary is incidental. This system works when the typical model is that women marry and stay at home to raise the kids... It no longer works if the family structure changes from the traditional model to what is increasingly the case, which is that women are not relying on a man for their financial support. The tradition has changed, but opportunities and mentalities have been slower to follow. Your claim that I should shut up or put up (or move) is not valid for the simple fact that speaking up is necessary for change. Furthermore, excelling at your job is not relevant if the selection criteria is not based on skill. Which is the entire point - if it WERE based on skill and not gender, this would be a good start. If you think Europe is backward and the US is progressive... Well, you are of course entitled to your opinion. 18. Haven't heard a good argument from you yet - just petty insults. Just goes to show you have nothing valid to say. "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." » - my boss
  19. Well, maybe I lack imagination, but it's really the only thing I can think of that is worth changing. And I *am* pretty powerless to change my salary - been trying for over a year!!! ETA - I guess that makes me pretty lucky if I can't think of anything else I really want
  20. That is sad given the choice to change anything, but the good news is that you can go out there and get some more....unfortunately for me however, cowbell production is at an all time low. I don't know if it really is sad... Given the choice to change *anything*, I truly think the only thing I really need is a more reasonable salary. 22. Incidentally, google Herzberg's theories of motivation. Salary falls into the "hygiene factors" of motivation. These are things that do NOT motivate, but if they are wrong/too low they *de-motivate* and make you *unhappy*. (http://www.netmba.com/mgmt/ob/motivation/herzberg/) Real motivators include achievement, recognition, advancement, growth, responsibility, et cetera. I know this theory is within the work context, but I think it applies more broadly to life in general. 23. Yep. The subject of changing something in your past has come up time and again... I wanted to know something entirely different - is there anything you would change *now*. Had people answered the question, I would have expected a lot of "I would have more money". For lack of a specific plan, money always seems to be the solution to just about any problem. I thought about my own question and that was my initial response. All I really want is to double my salary. I have a part-time job, so twice what I make would be a normal salary. Also, I *actually* work the same hours as if I were full time, so recognition of this fact would be nice. 25. Why would you have to buy one...couldn't you just move there, it's deserted? I could, but what's to stop other people moving in??! "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." » - my boss
