You're just proving his point. Please, continue.

It's the fault of government, on both sides.

So you're saying the best thing about a Mac is that it runs XP? I've been using Windows 7 for a few months now and I'm really liking it. They seemed to have improved performance with it and fixed all the issues & quirks with Vista.

Another way to look at cost of US military
justinb138 replied to Lucky...'s topic in Speakers Corner
Our military isn't going to do much good if they decide they want to destroy the dollar. -
Today isn't last November. Rasmussen has his numbers at 50 disapprove / 49 approve today. I think you have an annoying desire to convince everyone of your self-proclaimed intellectual superiority.

Are we better off than we were 50 years ago because of the government? 100 years ago? Hardly. You're projecting. Insurance can be a wonderful thing. *** If you could give me a while to research that technical aspect appreciate it. Well, you'll probably try. I see social spending as a completely unnecessary burden on productive members of society. There is no such thing as government charity. Military spending? Way too high. We shouldn't be trying to police the world, nor should we have troops all over the world like we do now. If we'd stop getting in other people's business we'd probably have a lot less people trying to attack us anyway. Projecting again. If you're so good at knowing what I'm thinking, then why are we even having this conversation? Fixed it for you. You said spending isn't spending. I disagreed. Damn Bill Gates for promising his $58 billion to charity, and Bloomberg for giving away $235 million in 2008. Hoarding bastards. Provided it's effective spending for education, I'm ok with it, but I think it needs to be handled at the state and local level. The feds have their hands in education too much as it is. Well, the gov. is 12 trillion in the hole, so I'd disagree. Which is exactly why a few people in Washington shouldn't be trying to "manage" or "control" it. That 'largest GDP in the world' is made up of a few hundred million people making the same decision. Think a few hundred million people wanting to save money on gas doesn't have any effect?

One acronym. F.E.M.A.

Just out of curiosity, how do you feel about "sin taxes" ? Should the government use the tax code to legislate morality or responsibility?

First, the tea party thing is like the redneck they always seem to find to put on the news after a tornado. You know the ones I'm talking about. Second, man, lighten up for a little while. -
That's one of the things that pisses me off the most when I read the news. If politicians put half as much effort into reducing spending as they did on dreaming up elaborate tax schemes, we'd be rolling in money right now.

Isn't being 'loved' by politicians kind of like being 'respected' by the other inmates? I think Obama is loved by the world, rather than just by political leaders of other countries. The Global Peace Index dropped us from 97 to 83 in 1 year, meaning we're less volent. Not gonna argue with you there, but I'm thinking views of him are more positive outside the US than inside the US. I'm betting part of it has to do with the "anybody but Bush" thing also.

Well, you're probably not going to get that from me. You're not going to convince me that higher taxes are good for me either. I can take better care of myself than the government can, for cheaper, much cheaper. My economic theory is based on "stop spending so much f*ucking money on pointless shit". Expecting me to want the government to take more of my money when they're already doing such a piss-poor job with the money they have now isn't rational. Hmm... over the last 100 years government power, spending, and taxing has skyrocketed, freedom and prosperity have gone way down. Is this the point where you start arguing about what the definition of 'is' actually is? Money not taken from the rich gets spent on cars, houses, and in banks, etc.. giving the poor jobs so that they don't have to be poor. If you give a man a fish.... You're over thinking things. Who spends your money better, you, or the government? Who is going to be more frugal and cost-conscious with your money, you or the government? Why is the government wasteful and inefficient? There's no perceived benefit for them not to be.

Don't think it's the term, think it's the large amount of no-talent ass clowns that keep getting appointed. Or more gullible, but that depends on your perspective I guess. Well, it's a hard point to argue when he's appointing socialists and communists. -
If you're using skype, get rid of the browser add-in. Made it much less buggy for me.

Cut spending, then cut taxes, when it's possible to do so. (Gonna be a really long time at the rate they're running up the bill now). I'll say it again, cutting taxes doesn't to trouble - if spending is also reduced to make up for it. Running up a massive debt causes trouble. If taxes were so great, why not just tax everybody 100%? I don't buy into the "magic number" theory of tax rates. The lower they are, the better. However, lowering them without reducing spending is irresponsible.

Health Care Policy and the Village Idiots

Obama approval rating: (Rasmussen today) Strongly Approve: 31 Strongly Disapprove: 40 Overall Approve: 49 Overall Disapprove: 50 http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll -
But didn't have the knowledge too. Show me a time when a major federal tax cut led to a positive result. 1. That's a useless insult, and disappointing, especially since you're one of the few that I actually don't mind arguing with about stuff on here. 2. I'll respond to the longer post tomorrow, I'm at work and kind of short on time. Show me a time when a major spending cut was included with it and I think we'll find one. (Not sure it's ever happened though). I don't think taxes are the issue, I think it's the spending, and more accurately, the debt. Repubs want to cut taxes and spend on unnecessary wars. Dems want to raise taxes and spend on wasteful social programs.

My mistake. I meant to type "Washington", but "Congress" ended up in there. Lots and lots of American dollars. The national debt has increased $1,200,000,000,000 in around 8-9 months. I'm not arguing that what Bush did was good, it wasn't. You can't argue that the dems are any less responsible, they made up the majority of congress when the auto bailouts and TARP passed. We as a nation can't continue to ignore that fact that for some reason we keep electing people that do this kind of crap. Please don't group me in with "you guys", I'm an individual, not a group. If you wish to discuss something, I'd prefer we discuss my view, not the view of the party of which you believe I am am member. It's worth nothing that any industry that politicians want to keep alive is suddenly the "backbone of America". The US government (both sides) spent a bunch of money to keep GM and Chrysler out of bankruptcy. It was gambling. Politicians took a chance and now we're are now stuck with the 25-30 billion dollar bill, plus interest. The part of this that angers me the most is not that they went ahead and did it, despite the fact that most of the american people were against the bailouts, it's that they had the audacity to tell me it was good for me. I won't disagree. As a voter who usually votes for people in the Republican party, we've done a piss poor job of keeping assholes and crooks out of office. Both parties have. We can argue back and forth all day, but unless voters from both sides own up to it and decide to change things, it won't change. There is a growing movement of candidates like Ron and Rand Paul, Peter Schiff, and a few others that I believe truly represent the values of the republican party. Getting the current party leadership out and these guys in isn't going to be easy. Did he vote for it? If I did anything three months in at my job I'd have a really hard time blaming it on the last guy. Paul Volcker was hated, yet he did what was necessary, and it worked. Ben Bernanke is loved. Doesn't that worry you sometimes? They've already failed. I see no reason to give them some cash as a reward for doing it. You think there were no bailouts during the great depression? No government intervention? You need to do some reading. The party didn't inherit it, US taxpayers did. I know they screwed it up, already said that. I just don't see the point in screwing it up more. If you're complaining about debt, how can Obama raising it more be good? I'm not defending the R's, they're both wrong. The losers are the american people. Dems and Repubs get to argue about it, the people get to foot the bill. Those aren't conservative ideologies at all. Bush ran on that platform, but that's not what he did. Except it's not just the issue of taxes, it's the issue of taxes and spending. lowering taxes without lowering spending isn't lowering taxes, it's just deferring them until a later date. Not sure what you mean by "make a big grab bag". I'm not blaming the democrats any more or less than the republicans, policies from both sides that led to this disaster. We could argue who is more at fault all day long, but it really doesn't make a difference either way. How is anything he's doing an escape? How does spending more money let you escape from debt?

It's kind of funny the way that works... Government keeps getting bigger, things keep getting worse... Did the government get bigger under Clinton? Spending was just about the sale as inflation and things got way better, so you may have a point. It appears that Dems want to maintain gov and Repubs want to grow gov. Well, I'd agree if we were discussing Clinton, but it seems the majority of both parties wants to grow government.

Possibly Texas.
